Another winner from the GA State Parks
I made the 90 mile trip to try another state park course, and it was well worth the drive. Little Ocmulgee was in excellent condition and quit the challenge, especially with no course knowledge. The layout includes elevation changes, tight doglegs, and some well protected greens.I really enjoyed the elevation changes, typically playing in the southern, swampy part of the state I'm ususally playing somewhat flat courses. The pace of play was excellent the day we played, teeing off at 10:30 and encountering only one group in front of us (they let us play through). Don't know if thats typical, but it was nice that day. The course isn't long, but there were many tee shots that i had to hit less than driver. Ball position from the tee was critical on many holes, which are doglegs, you really have to stop and think on this course before just blindly grabbing a driver. I believe i coulda shot a little lower if I had more experience there (84 that day). Anyway, I definitely recommend this course to all. Again, with the Golfnow hot deal, one would be out nothing if they make the trip and tee it up.
Pack a lunch
1 hour to wait for a cart delayed our start time. 2 groups on every tee box. Decent enough conditions and course lay out but not worth the effort and money. Apparently they don’t have a ranger or anyone to facilitate some semblance of order. Counter staff was super nice and friendly but again, not worth the effort to play here again
Congested
Golf Now App needs a way to let the Club House alert the Golfs Now App users that there is a tournament or School practice day. I love playing this course, but it stays packed now that other courses have closed around the area. It took 2.5 hours to play 9 holes due to the course was over scheduled.
Great course in the Georgia pines. High school and college players were in the course later in the day, but extremely accommodating and polite…..to let us play thru. Will definitely come back when vacationing in the south.
Great Golf Day
I booked an 8:30 tee time through GolfNow. I showed up at 8:00 just in front of a large group with the first tee time. The pro shop employee asked the group if they were ok with me teeing off before them in which they graciously agreed. The employee and the group were very friendly!
The course was in great shape. There were some minor bare spots on some of the fringes of the course (where I shouldn’t have been in the first place). The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were great. The layout was fun too.
Overall, my experience could not have been better.
NO Marshal -
I play this course several times a year, but not anymore. For the second time in a month we encountered 7somes in front of us and wouldn't let anyone play through. Not just one, but there were Two sevensomes and a sixsome that we could see from number 10 tee. Went in the club house to see what could be done and was told sorry, we can't stop them. Don't play golf there if you value your time and a little golf etiquette.
What a gem!
Great course for the price. Stayed at the lodge there with good food and a lovely lake and park. Really good condition and cool layout.
