Very fun course with just enough challenge
I got to Southbridge early in the morning and headed out to avoid the heat. I found the fairways and greens were well maintained, even with a lot of recent rain. The rough wasn't too tough, but could be challenging. The bunkers were mostly in rough shape, but some of the greenside bunkers had been kept in great shape which was a nice touch. I found the course layout very interesting and varied. The pro was very nice and friendly in the morning.
Looks like the course has seen better days.
The greens were in poor condition with different types of grass growing at different rates.
This place needs a lot of work, unfortunately.
Loved this course for years but they currently have many problems,. The greens are broken and need redoing. The fairways could use a lot more grass. Most of the cart paths are pretty bumpy. Owners bought this tract a while back and they are trying but those greens need major overhaul.
Bad shape
The greens were infested with poa annua grass, could not putt, they should be paying me to play the course. Don’t understand how it can be that bad this early in the season.
Greens are in tough condition
I'm have played this course five times since August and was always a big fan.
Golfed on Mar 31 and the greens were in HORRIBLE shape. They said it was something with the winter. The majority of the greens were not even rolling true. Short putts would bounce all over to the point we didn't keep score.
I sure hope this is a short term problem as I was very disappointed in the condition of a course that I normally really like.
Course conditions
The greens were terrible, the staff had an attitude, and the sand traps were hard. Overall I would not play this course again until they work on getting the greens addressed and work on getting better staff.
Awful conditions
Greens and tee boxes were shot. There was hardly any grass on either. The only grass on the greens were clumps of crabgrass and there was a stream flowing across one of them. They rolled as bad or worse than aerated greens. The cups that had been moved and filled back in were 1/8” below the rest of the putting surface adding more unknown to the putt. They were relatively fast though, until you hit a clump of crabgrass and your ball takes a 90° turn.
The tee boxes reminded me of a little league baseball field when some grass starts growing in the dirt. They were uneven and couldn’t get a solid footing.
The only upside was that the pace of play was great and I guess that’s because everyone else knows not to waste their money here. This course was pretty nice before I moved away from Savannah a couple years ago. Hopefully they can bring it back.
Course used to be great, but it’s gone down hill
This used to be my favorite course in the area for the money, but the conditions now make it a disappointment. Mainly, the greens have been bad for at least a full year (before and after winter). It’’s nearly impossible to find a line or get a good roll with all the weeds and patches. Hopefully, there will be an improvement over this season, but I won’t be back for a minute.
Southbridge what happened!
I’ve played this course for years, it USED to be a nice course and good value so much so that my wife and I bought one of the last lots along the course and built our dream home a few years ago. Wild part is over the years I’ve watched this course go downhill slowly, you never see the sprinkler system go off as it used to, the greens (especially the practice green by the club house is like playing on the moon) are horrendous and there’s patches of dirt on many of the light rough areas that now should be called hard rough.
Because I live here along one of the fairways and work from home I know the grounds crew is pretty much made up of an elderly guy and a couple teenagers that put about 5 minutes a day into the hole I live on and that’s it. I think if it weren’t for the scrambles this club would close down because it’s pretty much the only thing keeping them open besides the occasional guys that do play and find out the hard way they wasted money and go elsewhere after. Members get a better rate and they’re the ones who play it but a golf course has to draw outside golfers to survive. The 65$ greens fees just to hate the round because of how bad the greens are is outrageous.
The golf course that got hit by a tornado 2 years ago is in better condition and that’s where I play the majority of the time because for the dollar it’s a much better course.
Today was a beautiful Sunday and I’ve watched the club car championship from the back porch all day…..you would think Southbridge would be packed with golfers today with the beautiful spring day but I’ve maybe seen 10 groups come through all day, Southbridge GC figure it out your fans for years are abandoning you.
Good course for the price
i often play 9 holes in the afternoon for their discounted rate of $20. Cant complain about it, clubhouse and bar staff are very friendly and most everyone out on the course is friendly as well. This is my go to course in Savannah (i live here)
Not Priced Correctly For Conditions
Geez where to start: I’ve never seen a $65 course with worse tee-off conditions, greens were comparable to putting on plywood, was almost pointless to hit in the fairway - the rough was in as good shape as the fairways, the cart path was like driving on a Louisiana Parrish road, etc. No starter or Ranger. To be fair this is a $30 course at best with these conditions. Was first time playing here so maybe it’s better in the warmer months? Won’t be back.
Course Needs Work
The course conditions were radically improved after the owners took over. Now the greens are in terrible shape. With the exception of #16, and maybe a couple more, the putting was impossible. I love the course, but good greens are a must.
Great layout
I would love to play this course in a month to really determine the quality of the course
