Another Dye Gem in The Hoosier State

I am an a huge fan of courses designed. By Pete & Alice Dye and their family. Mystic Hills is another v great Dye course. It has a great hilly site, large undulating greens and impeccable conditions.

Stay and play

Absolutely awesome course. From design to scenery you can't get much better. It definitely should get more play than it does, and that is causing the conditions to deteriorate. The Stay and Play package is perfect, and the clubhouse is great too.

A Hidden Gem in Northern Indiana

You have to check out Mystic Hills if you are ever up in the N. Indiana area. The Pughs are fantastic folks who would bend over backwards for you.

Pros of the course...

It is fairly wide open off the tee.
Fairways are normally in good shape.
Greens are big but fair.
You'll get to use most of the clubs in your bag, if you play the back tees.

Cons of the course...
The cart paths are not in good shape.
The rough can get high enough that you can lose balls in plain sight sometimes.
The bunkers need to be re-sanded or pushed in.

The cabins they have on site are great. They stay-and-play options are unbeatable.

It is pretty obvious that they need to have more course maintenance help. More play=more money for upkeep. This course could be fantastic under the right conditions.

Come check the place out...and bring a friend.

Expected more out of a Pete Dye course

Showed up to our tee time (8:30 am) 20 min early to get checked in, warmed up and grab a beverage but nobody was at the pro shop! Finally someone arrived at 8:25 and made it seem like she was "right on time."

Cart paths are in horrible condition, rough and around traps could use some TLC. Otherwise, interesting layout with difficult greens. The price is great but driving down from northern IN I will probably take the extra time to go elsewhere.

beautiful course in the middle of nowhere

This is the Northern most course of the Pete Dye golf trail in Indiana. It is as visually pleasing as any course I've ever played. The greens are undulating and fast and there are a few forced carries. We played the Blue tees so it was reasonable but if you want to tee it up farther back you better be a big hitter. The staff is friendly . If I had a complaint it would be that the rough was a bit high but this late in the season I know several courses that aren't in mid-summer condition. As I mentioned you are out in the country - about a 2 hour drive from the south burbs. What is interesting are two new condo sort of buildings built near the proshop that you can rent for 240-280 a night depending on date. These sleep 6 I believe . If you rent one you get a round with a cart for 25$. So if 4 guys split a condo you can get a room overnight and a round for 85$ -95$ a guy -not bad. I intend to do that next season. For those familiar with the Chicago area this course will remind you of Prairie Landing, Ruffled Feathers, Balmoral Woods , and Cog 2 (ravines) - all of which I think are beautiful and challenging courses.

Pete & PB Dye co-design

Used to play here all the time but too tough for some of the guys I play with. Also, it is a bit of a drive. Front nine very links like with some drainage ditches to avoid. Par of 35 and probably the easier of the two nines. Back nine has some links feel but does have treed areas that can affect play. Number 11 is my toughest hole. Not overly long but swamp runs down entire left side of hole to the green and woods to the right if you bail too much. Angled green deceptive. Overall a hilly layout with hilly undulating greens. They have been very fast in the past but for this round they were medium speed. Clubhouse amenities minimal. Friendly staff though. By all means try to stay in the fairway. The rough is very thick and will cost you distance on full approach shots. Also, the green are very deep. Many of them are at least three club greens. Club accordingly. Have fun.

Diverse 9's

The Dye family design talents revealed challenging holes with fast smooth multi break greens concealed by once Indiana farm land. Each hole offers a vista to compose your drive placement or target green approach. Ample available tee times Despite greens fees just over most cart trail fees.

Hope to continue to play several times a season.

US Open Rough

There is a word I hate to use in any situation; that word is "potential." This course has huge potential, but it's run poorly. The fairways are mowed to most courses second cut height and there is no second cut at all, it goes from fairway to 6 inch rough with no transition. If you miss the fairway, you will be looking for your ball. You won't find it but you will find 3 or 4 others. They do have a policy I like. Following your round, your first beer in the clubhouse is just the price of your total score. I got a Coors light for 94 cents. While inside, I mentioned the rough to a guy that appeared to be in charge. He got defensive immediately. Blamed recent rain, but the course was dry, others in the area are fine and we never once saw a mower. We talked to other players; the word most used to describe the conditions was "rediculas." On the positive side, the layout is fantastic and the greens are large and run true. The clubhouse is nice, and the bartender is friendly.

Don't waste your time, there are better courses nearby

Extremely disappointed! This course could be great. However, it shows years and years of neglect. cart path was unusable in several places because it was so deteriorated. The grass was burnt and dead on most of the fairways and tee boxes. Our golf cart died part way through the round. Service was terrible because, as far as I could tell, there was only one employee at the entire facility. The woman that was there, who was quite friendly, had to ring the register, cook food, tend to the driving range, take care of golf carts, bus tables, and do everything else to keep the facility going. There are several other courses within a short drive that are much better and you won't have to pay a premium price to play.

Hmmmmm

I played of course the very first year it was built and fell in love so I come back 20 years later and the cart paths are unkept and bumpy, the course had deterioration instead of growing in to it's potential which is a shame. ...but on the upside, it's challenging with beautiful surrounding scenery.

Good design

Good design and a long time favorite of ours. First time playing here this year. Conditions left a little to be desired. Plenty of ground under repair and scalped tee boxes. Honestly, we were pretty disappointed as we had been looking forward to playing here for a long time. Pete and PB Dye design is quite good. Plenty of challenge from the Dye tees.

Good Course, Good Price, Good People

Very enjoyable course that can play night and day in varying conditions. When undulating greens are fast and firm, 3-putts can add up quickly.

Errant shots can generally be found in the thin, wispy heather. I don't think there is a single water hazard but a few holes do have OB.

This course is a steal at the $20 hot deal rate. $20 for a Pete Dye course is like larceny.

Go pleigh.

Very nice Pete layout

My wife and I played here on a Hot Deal. We had heard great things about the course and were not disappointed. The pace of play was a little slow due to an outing that was finishing up just ahead of us. The course was wet and muddy in spots, which has been the case in all of NW Indiana with the extreme amounts of rain we have received this summer. With that being said, the tee boxes, fairways and greens were in very good shape. As with many Pete Dye courses, the greens were somewhat difficult challenging to read....had many putts that appeared to break "uphill". I enjoy that challenge....it might be frustrating for some. I look forward to playing Mystic Hills again.

Windy conditions make this course tough

Wind is not your friend no matter what direction it is blowing on this course.
Front nine(links style) easly par/birdie, back nine is old style course with mature trees and narrow fairways.

Great Golf Day

It seemed like I would never get there. I traveled about an hour and a half to a gem of a course tucked into the middle of nowhere. Check in was a breeze. The front nine was a great links course, rolling hills, thick rough, and no trees! Back nine was great too. Stopped in the clubhouse after my round to pick up a couple little souvenirs, an awesome skull divot tool and a couple logo balls, and met Vicki Pugh, the owner. Ms. Pugh was very nice. A pleasure to talk to. Picked up a Pete Dye Golf Trail Passport and she said, "Well P.B.'s right over there. Would you like to meet him?" So P.B. Dye, the course designer, came over to say hello. We talked golf for a few, then some football, and then onto snowmobiling in -40 temps. Overall a great experience. The only downfall to the whole day was that the cart paths were in disrepair. Other than that, a great day.

A very nice course in the middle of nowhere

I played on a nice fall day during the week. There were only a few other golfer out playing when we arrived. I picked up a great deal through golf now on a Hot buy price. We drove from micigan for this Pete Dye layout. As with most Dye designs the greens are like potatoe chips most are very ubdualating but the rolled fast and true. For being the beginning of fall there were a few leaves blowing around but it's obvious the greens keeper and his team do a great job keeping them off the course and out of play.

We stopped at the turn for a quick refreshment and I would strongly recommend the homemade bloody Mary's with their infused vodka. The drinks were just as good as the golf!

We will definitely make the hour drive to play this hidden gem.

Difficult Course

The fairways were very wet, uphill, downhill, and very sloped. Greens very undulated, average speed, and tough to read. Not good course for beginners. The t boxes from the blue were 5800 and it still kicked our tails.
