Very Crowded
They really stacked up the golfers today on a very tight layout. Everyone was yelling “fore” all day. Course is okay, greens in good shape.
So much wrong
The layout creates many instances of being on adjacent holes. The course is in very poor shape. The tee boxes were beat up and weeds are all over the course. Even the fairways were rock hard and caused thin hits. The price attracts beginners who don't repair ball marks on the greens. I don't remember it being this bad when I played before. Will never play here again.
Enjoyed the day…
With the Hot Deal on Golf Now, was well worth the money. But the tee boxes were in rough shape. Also sand traps were not great, but that seems to be a problem at a lot of places. Pace was very good. Wish they could get some water (to drink) on the course, but I’m sure the pandemic still prevents that. A few distance markets were missing. A good round with my grandson and friend!
Village Green Mundelein
As most businesses are short staffed so is Village Green. When I arrived for my 4pm tee time, there was no one in the Pro shop to assist me. The bar tender was that person. He was extremely nice and polite immediately apologizing for not being in the pro shop. I was a single and asked if I was paired up with anyone. They said there was another single and I was fine with it. When I grabbed a score card, I noticed there is no diagram of each hole on the card. When I arrived at the 1st tee which was not more than a few hundred feet from the pro shop there was no starter, just a woman who insisted on playing alone. Well, the pace of play was extremely slow!! There was no one from the course checking pace of play. If you play 18 you need to start prior to 4pm. The fairways had no markers for how far you were from the hole. During the round there was no beverage cart, you had to get your beverages before you started or at the turn. The greens were medium to fast. I was able to finish 18 in 4 hours 20 minutes under the moonlight!! They didn’t bother you to get in by a certain time. The staff was great and even in the dark was asking how the round went and wanted to make sure I had an enjoyable day!! The course only has water on about 4-5 holes out of 18. It’s not long and the layout is basic. The overall experience was good but not great. Like most businesses they need more help!!
Pretty good value, just don't expect a lot
I'm not a great golfer but I've played a decent number of courses. The best part about this course is the value - it's easy to get a relatively fast 18 in for pretty cheap. The layout can be confusing at times and the signage is pretty poor. It can be hard to figure out where the next teebox is, and in a couple of places there are teeboxes immediately adjacent to each other and you're not positive which fairway you're going for. GPS is a must. Pace of play was fine - had no problem getting done in under 3:45 even chasing balls around a little bit. It's pretty hard to lose balls on this course, although water comes into play in some areas. The geese mess some greens, and the drought here has browned the grass a bit. Overall though, for someone who is working on getting better, I'd spend what I did again to play it.
The good and the bad
Tee boxes and sand traps were pretty rough. Fairways and greens in pretty good shape. Pace was good, and decent price with a “Hot Deal”. I like to play a lot of different courses, but if I can find the right deal, I’ll play again before the season ends. Good course for my 11 year old grandson to play.
No management at all. Tee times were all over the place. Had to play off the back 9 to start, then skip a hole to make the round bearable. There were 3 two-some’s in front of us and waited 10 minutes at each hole. Got my car blocked in after my round and had to wait 20 minutes to leave. 0/10 would not recommend.
Much improved from the past. Charcoal Grilled Hot Dogs and Brats at the turn a nice addition.
