This photo gives you an idea of the sloping greens. This is an elevated green and you can see the slope going toward the front of the green. Photo submitted by dwal64 on 05/27/2014

This is a par 3 and you can see the elevation changes to the green well below the tee box. You have to carry the creek and the the green is protected by two bunkers off either side of the front. Photo submitted by dwal64 on 05/27/2014

This I believe is one of the par 5's and you can see the rise in elevation and the rolling fairway. Photo submitted by dwal64 on 05/27/2014

This another good photo to show the elevation changes. This is an elevated green with a narrow approach up the fairway sloping right to left. The tee bax is located almost directly behind the tree in the center of the photo beyond the creek. Photo submitted by dwal64 on 05/27/2014
Likely Won't be Back
Pace of play was about the only thing this course had going for it. Greens were best kept part of the course and solid speed but on more than one hole there were multiple dead patches. Tee boxes were rock solid, so much so that on one hole had to get on one knee to pound the tee into the ground. If you did not hit the fairway there was a good shot your ball would end up in a patch of dirt/sand. Yardage markers were sporadic and often times inaccurate. No water available (only for purchase) on a 75 degree summer day. Overpriced, for $40 there are numerous other courses around that present a much better value.
will definitely play again.
Course in great shape, challenges all skill levels.
Would definitely recommend to other golfers.
Driving Range or Here?
Can't beat the GolfNow hot deal for $12 but other than that, not much positive from here. Ball cleaners were dry, sprinklers were on when hitting off the tee box and/or green the entire back nine, broke majority of my tees just trying to put them in the ground. The course has potential but when there's only 5 people out there on a gorgeous 70 degree day, that tells you something. I'd pick the driving range and spend the same amount of money over the frustrations of this course.
Just OK
3 Star on it's best day. Play Glendarin Instead, just 1 mile away, maybe $10 more, and well worth the extra money.
Good value for cost
Almost all fairways and greens were in good or great shape. Couple greens had some disease spots. Tee boxes were average, some below average. Not a lot of hazards, but decent amount of blind shots. very friendly pro shop staff and cost of food and drinks very reasonable.
Great get away
First player on course that day. Fairways mowed leaves off greens and fairway. Lots of challenging shots, played alone, done in 2.5 hrs, perfect
fun course
This was a fun course near the lake. It did have a few mandatory caries and a couple 200 yard par 3 it was very hot so there weren't many golfers out. The restaurant attached was very good as well.
Course is well maintained
Course is challenging yet easy to play. Rough is very easy to find the ball and then get out of. Possible to walk but much easier to ride as there are many hills and some of the holes have a little distance between one another. Not really much for food in the clubhouse but there is a restaurant above that serves food. A very enjoyable time playing Lake James Golf Course.
Lake James Golf Club
The course is in excellent shape and we never waited on other players to hit a shot. Amazing pace of play on a nicely landscaped and great but challenging track.
No negatives
The course was challenging but not long.Nice vistas, well maintaine.I used every club in my bag.It had a little of everything.Fun course.
This course is difficult
The greens are extremely small with lots of trouble around them. Bunkers and water. The course is tight and close to homes. The rough was very long and the fairways were in poor condition. It was hard to find exact yardage. No GPS. There are lots of hills. It is a very unforgiving course. The Pin placements were difficult as well. Every putt was on a steep slope. Not enjoyable to play.
Good until the sprinklers came on
We started late 4:30 and by the end of the round we weren't only dodging course hazards they turned the sprinkler's on making it difficult to hit even good shots off the tee.
needs a little work, but a good value
The course was in okay shape, but the tee boxes need a lot of work. The greens were in great shape, a lot faster than you would think. You definitely need to keep it in the fairway. The hills were a bit challenging - not your everyday flat course, but overall we enjoyed it. I don't think the staff knew a golf club from a hockey stick, every question I asked was "I don't know, sorry." There is no drinking water on the course and no cart girl available. It was hot, so that was a definite no-no.
Great course
First time playing this course and loved it very well groomed fairways and greens definitely will play again and suggest anyone who hasn't played this course to go try it out.
Fun course! Good value!
This was my first time playing this course and I had a great time. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The clubhouse/pro shop was small but well kept and well stocked. The clubhouse itself appeared to be somewhat older but taken care of. The parking lot is a little small but there seems to be two different parking areas if need be. The course was in very good condition and the greens were nice and well taken care of. The greens were on the fast side when I was playing so keeping it "on" the green was the challenge. I loved the rolling hills and the elevation changes. The fairway's were in good shape and well trimmed. The front 9 is flatter than the back 9 but still a lot of rolling hills to contend with. The back 9 is more challenging than the front with all of the trees, water and elevation changes. There are several elevated greens and some that are well below the tee box as well. Overall this course is definitely one I will play again and this time I will have friend's with me so they can enjoy it as well. I guess the only negative I can think of is some of the cart paths are somewhat rough.

Very nice course, fun to play, not too tough, but can get in plenty of trouble! Nice condition fairways and greens, will be planning on playing here again!
