the course was green for this time of year
this is a decent muni for the money,it has a couple tough holes acct of the small landing areas.
The course was wide open and majority of greens were very nice.
I played in 2 and a half hours as very few other golfers were on the course. There were a lot of nice holes and only one green which was in bad shape. Overall it was fun and the greens putted very straight. This was a good experience.
John
This is the worse course I have ever played.
I could not tell the fairway from the rough, which made it hard to find your ball. Cart paths were dirt laid more than concrete. Water stations were dirty with yellowish water. Bad experience, but with friendly staff.
Country Course
I'm not the best golfer so I play here for practice. Staff in the Pro shop is not very friendly. In fact, the guy checking us in gave us a hard time about booking online and it "costing him money and wear and tear on his equipment"???
Watch out for the greens keeper as they want you to stay out of their way when they are mowing (no joke, they will literally mow right next to you).
The course has a good mix of short and long holes. A few holes provide a good challenge.
Best bang for your buck
This course has the best bang for your buck value in Kansas City in my opinion. Many holes aren't excessively long, but a lot are wooded making it necessary to hit it somewhat straight. Its never a huge traffic jam on the course, so you can always get done in less than five hours on a weekend.
Good value. Decent course
Overall a decent course. The fairways seemed a bit lacking and were also a bit difficult to identify at times, but were in overall decent condition. The course does a nice job of winding through the natural landscape but sometimes is a bit hard to follow if it is your first visit. The greens were in good shape. Plenty of contour to challenge you and almost no dead/rough patches.
great practice course
Great course for a planned trip or spur of the moment game. Weeds and dandelions eat up balls pretty easy though i recommend using a yellow or bright color ball to avoid a casualty of losing a well hit ball
Good golf course off the beaten path
This was a decent course, just off the beaten path of I-35 in Garner. The carts were good, tee boxes were fairly appropriate, course design was fun and moderately challenging, staff and weather were friendly, and it was an overall good experience. The only negatives were that the fairways were a bit long on a few holes, some of the greens had a couple of dead spots (I'd imagine from the drought conditions the past few years), and there were some seriously over-zealous Canadian geese that made a couple of shots close to the water interesting. :)
gardner course
I used to be a member. Got the heck out because the owners never work on course. Fairways are junk. Bunkers need sand and more. Greens are decent. If I had not got a good deal on golfnow I would not have played it. Had to get some swings in and needed cheap and fast.I wish the city would take it over . If they ever try to charge you 39 to play this course find another one fast. No way it is worth it.
good course
Each hole has different shots to play....good challenge. Greens are always in good shape. The scenery is great and the staff are very friendly. Fairways are descent and hiring them is a must
avoid this course
The greens were in pretty good shape but the rest of the course was bad. Like playing in a farm field. Needed a hammer to pound the tee in on several of the tee boxes. The grass in the fairways was also poor and there was never a good lie. The ground doesn't release anywhere making this a good place to damage your equipment or sustain an injury. A few dead carts left on tee boxes and the condition of mine told another story. Time for this course to be shut down. Was 10.00 to play but not even worth that.
Wide open, easy course.
This course was a nice change of pace from the technically challenging courses in the area. All of the fairways are quite wide with only a few trees separating it from the adjoining holes. It definitely felt more forgiving for those with a slice or hook. The greens were very well maintained and challenging with their slopes and tiers. The fairways could use some attention, but I can't complain because of the low price.
Decent course for the money
At $20 for 18 with a cart my expectations are virtually nil, so this course is a decent surprise. Course was playable, but far from a well-managed condition. The fairways are bentgrass, but not well groomed and moderately overtaken with crabgrass, weeds, and other non-desireables. The rough is almost the same length as the fairways but appeared to be a more typical Johnson County mix of fescue and bluegrass. Greens were well cut and nicely maintained. Course is a good mix of elevation changes, blind doglegs, and from the tips was fairly challenging. Cart path is rough gravel and broken unmaintained asphalt in lots of places. Would be a good course to walk due to it's short 6200 yard length. Also saves you another $5 by walking. All in all it's not a destination course, but for the money, it didn't feel like a waste either. Definitely will play there again when I feel like just getting out and knocking the ball around.
Good course to work on your game
Good course to work on your game, staff is friendly although pace of play on the front nine was very slow. Overall course was in good condition although if you were not in the fairway finding your ball in the ground cover that was growing was not easy. Good place to go play with family or friends.
not a bad deal for golfnow.com prices
golfnow.com provided a very good deal on price for this golf course. normal prices for a round of 18 is about 30$ which is a little steep for the kind of condition the course is in. I would have no problem paying 30$ if the course was in much nicer shape. overall it was a pleasant experience with moderate challenge to my golf game.
Basic, no-frills municipal course
What can I say? You get what you pay for, right? Yes, it's true at Gardner Golf Course. I didn't pay much, so I shouldn't complain, but this course is really rough. Poor layout, lots of blind shots, trees in places they really shouldn't be, fairways not great, cart paths are largely gravel, etc. Actually, the greens are pretty nice and the staff friendly. Good place for beginners to duff around or for families wanting to avoid the snooty golf crowd.
