Black Rock Golf Course
About
Black Rock Golf Course may be one of western Maryland's newest courses but it's located near some of the country's most historic sites. Antietam Battlefield and Harper's Ferry are just a few minutes away from this scenic course. The opening holes of the layout are tucked into the Shenandoah Valley while the back nine climbs uphill, offering views that stretch across the Appalachian Mountains. The golf course has plenty of holes that will please long hitters, but mature trees and thick rough frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy. Traps protect the front of most of the greens and you'll come across dramatic undulations on some. The par-4 13th is arguably Black Rock's toughest hole. This sharp dogleg right has a massive tree to the right as well as a pond right in front of the green.

Perfectly Conditioned
Originally purchased a GolfNow round for two on Saturday, October 16. Unfortunately, it started raining buckets about two hours prior to our tee time. The club is about 45 minutes away, so we called the pro shop and they graciously issued a rain check for a later date. We were able to utilize it for our weekday round on a Wednesday. They honored the rain check and also issued a nine-hole rain check because of the difference between the weekend round we originally booked and the weekday we played. This was unexpected and greatly appreciated. As for the course, let me say this: we play as many different courses as we can get to, mostly on the eastern seaboard. This year, we have also played in New England, southern Florida, and Hawaii. Black Rock was by far the BEST CONDITIONED and BEST KEPT course we have played this year. The fairway grass was perfect, the rough was not unfair, the bunkers had plentiful, decent sand. One or two greens had bad spots, but they were small and did not interfere. As for difficulty, the greens are postage-stamp-size and were very fast. When one was fortunate enough to land on one, the ball tended to roll off. The course challenged you to make your shot if you wanted to score low. Kudos to the superintendent and staff for making the course great and our afternoon very pleasurable. We'll be back!
Enjoyed the course
One of those courses that you end up using every club in your bag before you leave. I will return.
Greens and other
We weren’t told by clubhouse/starter that there were member groups out , and that we had to play the front nine twice. We got to 13 and marshal told us we had to discontinue back not play and go back to first tee to finish our round. We had to drive through all groups ahead of us, by the time we got back to the first tee we were over it and left. Really feel like a refund or rain check should have been offered. Also, greens were punched very recently and were very sandy, we should have been alerted to this. Fees should have been reduced even more, many courses will tell prospective golfers when greens were punched. I had no issues with the booking process, golfnow was efficient and easy to book
Black Rock
It's the end of winter and into the first few days of spring so the course still hasn't totally greened up yet but the grass is in great shape for this time of year.
Most of the sand traps are mostly dirt. The greens were recently aerated so they were a little slow and still had a lot of sand on the surface.
Well managed
Even with the weather being cold, the course is very well maintained. Great layout. The fairways were in great shape, the greens had sand to cover the aeration i guess. Would definitely play here again.
Fun Course
Played the course for the first time in January. Was a fun course to play. Tee box markers were not out, so I got lost on a few occasions, not knowing where the next tee was, or the right direction to hit off the tee. Better markings during winter months would be more helpful for folks unfamiliar with the course. Course was in good shape overall. Greens were heavily top dressed with sand, but that’s not unexpected to run into once in a while.
December Fun!!!!
Course was in great shape for mid December!!! Pace of play was great and they’ve removed some trees in order to open up the course more. Greens are in good shape and the reads stay in tact
