Great local Willie Park Jr track
I’ve now teed it up at CCNB three times, but this was my first time playing a full 18. The two previous rounds over 10 years ago had been cut short due to rain.
Though the course isn’t long on the scorecard (~6,400 yds), it plays quite long, especially in the fall when the conditions are a bit softer.
This course was originally deemed to be a Donald Ross, but after more historical research, it turned out to be a Willy Park Jr.
The layout is really unique and very memorable with lots of elevation change and they boast some of the purest greens in the area - a statement with which I concur.
CCNB is a private course, and as the member say, absolutely one of the best deals around for the money.
I didn’t play great, but now understand the nuances and anticipate playing a lot smarter next time around. Would definitely recommend.
A little piece of New England
Willie Park Jr. design over lovely ground, ideally rolling, exposed ledge, ponds, creeks and woodland. Overly treed but easily fixed if they would just peel back. Golf course conditioning was heavy turf, over watered generally. But great set of greens and lovely little volcano-hole 15th par-3 (pictured)
Donald Ross at his best and his worst
One of the top layouts I have played in the state of Massachusetts. Donald Ross really took a tight piece of land and created a challenging course. the usual subtle breaks in all Ross greens are truly on display here. Fairly tight treelined fairways make for accuracy off the tees and knowing where to put the ball on the greens is paramount. Great staff in the pro shop.
