Prepare yourself for the Back Nine
Get your pars and birdies(?) in early because the back nine always plays tough. Great, great value for the money.
Great course, great value
Great picturesque course that is tough but fair at the same time. Play the correct tees and you'll have a blast.
Enjoy the food and drinks after your round in the awesome lodge style clubhouse.
Home Course Blues!!!
While I play Thornapple as a home course and on Wednesday for my weekly league, I found this to be a really below average experience!!! I love this course, BUT.....The holes had not been changed in at least 6 days! (I played those exact holes on Wednesday night for league.) The pace of play was absolutely terrible, with 1 or 2 foursomes waiting on every hole of the front side and most of the backside. We were told a "Bachelor Party" was out in front of us. Well my partner had to leave for an appointment, as finishing the last 9 holes, would have taken him another 2 hours and 45 minutes, making his departure later than his appointment. He inquired about a voucher for 9 holes for the holes he could not play and they told us, "You booked through GolfNow.com! Take it up with them."
I was so embarrassed taking this good golf buddy to my home course!!! Maybe it is time I found a new course to call my home links!
Tricked up greens/tough pins
Great track, excellent value. Always enjoy Thornapple, but greens seemed overly difficult; pins on slopes and varying speed. Maybe just an off day with the flatstick, but I'm usually pretty decent around the greens. Hard to hold with approaches as well.
Always a test
This track never ceases to test me. Any other Kzoo course, besides Heritage Glen, I can manage to keep myself pretty close to the 80 +\- 1, this place always keeps me in check. Fun is an understatement, if you like a challenge.
Great Track, bring your flagstick, you'll need it here.
It's a really visually fun tough little golf course kind of in the middle of nowhere. Lots of elevation changes and the fairways were in good enough shape to play summer rules - the roughs were punishing and there were several forced carry approach shots. The greens are what set this track apart - small to medium sized but very undulating. Fairways on the first couple holes are a little wet but once you get to five no further issues. Played this course a few times several years ago and was pleasantly surprised that someone finally knows how to get the track is great condition as before it was very marginal. I will be back for sure.
Great rolling greens
True test of golf. Hit the fairways, the rough is thick and penalizing. The greens are firm but receptive on quality approach shots. The greens are fast but roll true!
First Time at Thornapple Creek
First time playing Thornapple Creek and I have to admit I would play it again. I did not do very well at all but loved the course. Very beautiful scenic wise and condition wise. Nothing very flat about this course at all. Rolling hills and undulating greens. Quite a few hidden greens on this course. We were not sure where to drive the ball on a few of the holes do to hills or trees. The only thing I have to say about the condition of the greens is they had just been aerated due to the fall season. Other than that I would have to believe that during the summer months the greens would be in great condition. We played 18 holes with cart and it took us just over 4 hours. We did get behind a foursome that were going a little slow. The course staff were very friendly and enjoyed talking with them. Checking in was smooth and we were headed out to our cart within minutes of walking in the front door. The club house is a beautiful log cabin type facility. Over all I loved the course and I do look forward to going back and making up for the first round.
Pretty golf course.manicured.
Be ready to play uneven lies. Need to be be able to hit irons accurately to score. Tough chipping to these these rolling greens. Even 2 putting is a challenge if not close to pin.
Challenging beauty
Curves and undulations galore. Crowned greens and a challenge to all. Beautiful views and some long holes. Fun yet frustrating at times.
Thornapple Creek
It's been several years since I've played Thornapple Creek, but will come back. There are several challenging holes, and the course was in very nice condition.
nice course but took 5 hours
First time playing this course. Very nice sceneries and love the challenge holes. However the round took five hours. There are twosomes in one group and a single behind them, then another twosomes behind the single. We waited approx 5 to 10 mins on every swing. There were no cart girl coming around for drinks. However I would play there again but prob not on the weekends.
Treacherous greens !!!!
The greens and Pin placements were treacherous !!
We played Harbor Shores the day before and thought those greens were tough !! The starter warned us and he was RIGHT !! Beautiful scenic course ! Will not return thought it was unfair !! Lots of "blind" shots !! Really none of us enjoyed the round ! $29 senior rate was nice !!
Rather Go Elsewhere
A decent course but not very enjoyable to play. Many elevation changes with some blind shots. Yardage markers were not too accurate. Would rather play a different course.
Slow group ahead of us
Overall, one of the best courses in the southwest Michigan region. Stupid foursome played played painstakingly slow ahead of us. But not the fault of the course.
Great Course, terrible owner
Bought this through the deal caddy. Good deal. I have played this course in the past a lot but has been at least ten years since I last played it. Have to say the course was in excellent condition and is very challenging. No complaints about the course. Staff was a different thing. They didn't seem to know what the certificate was and still tried to charge me the $25 I had already paid. Finally got it straightened out and off we went. Front nine was fine with no issues. Went into the clubhouse (which does have an odor to it as stated by other reviewers) and paid $20 for a 6 pack, oh well. Off to the 10th tee, where we teed off. The ranger came to the tee and stated we needed to pay for the additional nine. I explained to him we had paid and told him about the Deal Caddy. Said we had to come to the pro shop to prove it to the owner. I told him to have the owner come out here as I wasn't going in. Felt like we were being accused of stealing. Needless to say I was upset for the next three holes. When we were done the ranger came over and apologized but it should have been the owner as he is the one that caused the problem but sent his ranger kid. Very nice course ruined by a very bad owner.
I love this course
I'll be back! I happened to play the course after a huge rain, so there were a couple of soggy fairways. Other than that, this course was great. I've already jumped onto golfnow.com to make another reservation.
Beautiful course
This was my first time at thornapple, and I have to say it was a great experience. The course is beautiful, and also challenging. I will definitely golf here again.
great course
Great fun will play again & again. Nice staff well maintained
Gorgeous!
Very beautiful, challenging course. Lots of dramatic, often blind shots. The rough is deep and water is often in play.
