Nice Course, Awful Staff
This is a decent tract for an 'old timey' course. The holes were varied enough to make it interesting. Decent fairways, decent greens. Elevation changes and some easy forced carries over natural areas. It would have been a nice golfing experience if not for the staff.
Approaching the clubhouse, we were barked at by the cart attendant, "what time is your tee time!" I told him and he immediately argued. "No it's not, you're wrong. We already have a group at that time." The attitude continued in the clubhouse. We got the old, "Oh, you're one of them 'Golfnow people.'" Apparently they weren't aware that after Golfnow books a 2 some, they sell the other 2 spots as well. They made us feel like we were ruining their day and we were such an inconvenience to them by having the nerve to try to leave some money there.
We tried to forget about all of that and enjoy the course. We were following a twosome and all went well. For 3 holes. We got to number 4 and it was a big delay. The ranger showed up and asked if the single behind us could join up with us. He reasoned that that would slow us down and so we wouldn't have to wait as much. I asked if the whole course was slow and he said said "no, just these 3 holes," so I asked about the twosomes playing through. He got indignantly snotty and said "NO! On weekends Foursomes have priority." There were 2 slow as molasses foursomes in front of the twosome ahead of us, it would have been a six hour round. I politely advised him that, per the rules of golf, a twosome has priority and his smug response was, "NOT HERE!" Not wanting a 6 hour round, we skipped the next two holes and enjoyed the wide open course.
At the turn, the ranger ran up to me and handed me a sheet of rules, pointing out rule 2, no skipping holes, and rule 3, foursomes have priority. Apparently rule 4, allow faster players to play through, doesn't apply on weekends.
I think it insane that, on a wide open course, we were expected to follow the only 2 foursomes out there and play at their pace.
Fortunately, he didn't say anything to us the rest of the round, but continued to follow us like we were criminals stealing from them and ruining their peaceful, customerless day. It seems the only purpose of the ranger was to ensure slow play.
The course was enjoyable enough, one I could see myself playing often, but, I don't know if I'll be back due to the combativeness of the ranger. The whole atmosphere of the course was that it was private and for 'members'(locals) only and we were unwanted there.
Best kept secret
Such a fun round of golf in a park like setting with river views!!
Fall Golf
This is a course that I have played before with great enjoyment. Fall golf offers many challenges, as the weather is a constant factor. The greens had just been aerated without much sand to fill in the holes like many courses employ.
The starter was a bit brusque as well, not really knowing the lineup currently on the front and not allowing me to go off the back but following 4 groups who gave no inclination of letting me play through.
This is typically a great public course with a reasonable price. Hoping this is a one time thing.
Course is in great shape.
The course was a little wet today but it really didn’t affect play. There is a nice mix of holes with wide open fairways as well as some that are quite a bit more challenging. The tee boxes were all in great shape except for the par 3s, basically the same as you would find at any other track, which is caused from players not fixing their divots. The fairways are very well taken care of and the greens are as well. If I could change one thing about this place it would be to have a driving range/practice area on site besides the practice chipping and putting green. Definitely worth playing.
The starter needs to retire. He was grump, rude and in general not helpful. I would think the course could do much better if they had someone with a positive attitude.
Marysville Golf Course
We really enjoyed our day at Marksville Golf Course. The course is very well maintained.. Large greens that putt true. It is full of very mature trees that provided shade on the hot day and a lot of natural environment left for the critters. We viewed a doe with a very young fawn crossing our fairway. All this and the occasional view of the river made it a beautiful outing as well as an enjoyable game of golf.
Always enjoyable playing Marysville
I really like playing here. Gives you room on fairways.
Has some challenging tree lined holes. Pretty layout by Lake Huron. The only reason for the low score on Amenities is that the food trailer was not there because they aren't there on Mondays(It was July 3rd, so not a regular Monday. Most if not everybody was off for the Holiday. Place was packed so a missed opportunity). Same goes for the Beverage cart. They didn't start til 3 pm because it was a Monday. But this was all part of the holiday 4 day weekend so that was bad scheduling as we would have bought a lot more but tee time was at Noon so we didn't see her until we were literally on the final 5 holes. So, like I stated, good time, fun course but management blew it by not having food at all. And beverage cart until 3 pm.
Great layout and nice course to play!
Greens tees and fairways were excellent. Roughs need work as do the sand traps. However I know the superintendent and he is working with a skeleton crew. That being said, excellent course to play.
Staff in the proshop not very friendly.
Grumpy Narrow minded Starter
The starter needs to take a course in people skills.
Group that I got paired with
I got paired with a group which I didn’t mind, but we played 9 holes in 2hr 30 mins. To me that is long for Marysville to play 9 holes. I finally broke off from them on hole 13, I still ended up playing a 4hr 30 min round. Just wished we had a Ranger to help me move the group he paired me with along. I was playing ready golf even tho it was busy they should of been doing the same.
I love this course been playing here for years and will continue playing here.
