Excellent
Excellent course. Rather difficulty but enjoyable indeed.
Friends & I Insulted By Ranger
I'll start by saying that this is a beautiful course. Some holes were challenging but the layout of the whole course was well constructed and maintained very well.
My friends and I (group of 8) started a monthly golf outing and chose WestWynd for a Saturday morning tee off. On the front 9 we were stalked by a Ranger for two holes, which seemed excessive and unnecessary so his presence was distracting. I understand that Rangers are there for a reason and I'm a firm believer that all courses need them. However, having someone following us around like we're doing something wrong and giving us looks was concerning.
By the time we were done with the second hole, he told us that we needed to wait for the peanut gallery ahead of us. The group ahead of us was a part of our group. For him to call our friends cheap and slow was insulting. He should have driven ahead to see that our other group was waiting for a group of two golfers who were taking more time than a group of four. We understand that courses have tee time reservations to follow and we do our best to keep up the pace as we try to enjoy ourselves and wait patiently for the group(s) ahead of us.
Our group ahead of us later said that the same man found a golf ball in the woods and threw it at them while they're trying to play just to tell them that "he found their lost ball". He didn't hand it over or even wait for them to finish. He threw a golf ball at them without even grabbing their attention and it wasn't even a ball they used. The color of the ball should have been a tell tale sign.
We didn't go to play this beautiful course for $60 just to be insulted. For a Ranger to treat us differently just comes to show that he was merely judging us as children rather than treating us as adults who have shown nothing but respect and golf etiquette. I have visited many golf courses and never experienced this hospitality. And after informing the manager on this matter all he could say was, "I'm sorry you had a bad experience".
There are many courses we can play and most are a further commute but WestWynd is a course that we'll never return to again...
A little disapointed
Course generally was in good shape. But was disappointed because some of the Marsh area was cleared out on some of the holes from previous years (ie hole 4) to make play easier i suppose. Also it seems some of the greens are not being maintained properly as hole number 4 has lost a sizable chunk off the back of the green that is now i guess fringe.
Unbelievable course!!
Absolutely blown away!! C
Course was in perfect condition right down to the sand traps. Could not have asked for a better experience all the way around. Absolute must play in Southeast Michigan
First Class Experience
Top 5 layout in Southeast MI. Everything about the property is beautiful from the clubhouse, greens, and bunkers. The bunkers were actual shaped and deep, not just pits filled with sand. I will say it is the most difficult public course in Southeast MI.
First class experience the entire way. I was walking up to 18 green and someone asked if I wanted my clubs cleaned. Do yourself a favor and book the tee time now!
Windswept
Course in pretty good shape. Greens still recovering from aeration.
Beautiful land
First time here. Great condition, even with aeration on the greens. Snack shack is closed at 11 but the toilet seats were heated! Lol.
In a week the trees will be in full color. Recommended
A pitcher of IPA after a good round of golf.
Autumn IPA by Arbor Brewery Co was rather expensive at 38 a pitcher, but was very good.
Didn’t get a chance to play this course. I booked my tee time on golf now 3 days in advance. They apparently had a tournament set up during my tee time so they called me 3 hours before my tee time to cancel it. What a joke
For 55 bucks during the week, the course was in pretty bad shape. Roughs needed to be mowed, one green was saturated in water as the grounds crew was watering a green at 2pm on a Friday. The value wasn’t there overall.
Great first-time experience
Our first time (my wife and I). Course in great condition. Nice/fair balance of difficult holes with a few breathers sprinkled in. As others have suggested, the first time you play here, it can be easy to hit where one shouldn't. Saving grace is that some of the forced-carry areas were cut for maintenance so got away with a couple of shots that might otherwise have been OB.
For a senior, the yardage difference between white and green tees is a bit wide--white total yardage is a bit too long; green a bit too short. (I played a mix of tees to get it closer to that 6000-6100 ideal).. As other courses have done, a combined white/green setup might be nice.
Staff was friendly enough, but except for check-in didn't really use their services/amenities.
Senior weekday pricing is attractive given the quality of the course.
And, have to say, riding on cobblestone cart paths was a surprising joy :)
great round
the only problem i have is many greens looked my putts were gonna bounce
greens need help
The greens rolled true, but didn't look like other high end courses in the area... I thought my ball would bounce on many greens
Monday afternoon
Golf course in excellent conditions. Greens running around 10, rough about 2". Pins were fair and tees and fairways were in great shape.
greens were perfect
Overall excellent conditions, couple fairways being worked on but greens were fast and true.
