The course had nice greens, outside of the greens you’re either playing off of dirt in the tees and fairway or mud.
We had a 10am tee time and there were 6 groups waiting on the first tee and 3 behind us. The marshal would not shotgun start us. Didn’t tee off until 11 and took 5 hours for 18 holes. Too much money for the conditions and the course does not have any reason to have a marshal.
Flat Course
Riverside is a flat course with several water hazards that helps with dialing in club accuracy and distances. We played in Feb., so the course was still in hibernation which meant the ball rolled a lot further than usual. Greens were more difficult than expected, but rolled well.
Overall, a nice easy course. Only issue was very slow play!
Showed up 20 minutes early and paid, as we’re about to tee off the starter adds 2 guys to our group cuz the course was already backed up (we booked 2 slots and even checked again before arriving and the other 2 slots were still available for our tee time). We waited at least 5 minutes on every tee box, I understand that it’s a weekend and more people are out but a 5 hour round gets miserable when you’re waiting to hit every shot. The tee boxes were in terrible shape, greens had geese poop and crud all over. It’s cheap so I keep coming back but I’m not sure it would even be worth $10 to play here anymore. There are many other courses close by that are in better shape, have friendlier staff, and cost about the same.
You can putt from the fairways!!
Early morning tee times here are usually great and quick. Went a few times last year and had a good round each time. Paid around $20 for those rounds. This time around I was charged $40 when I got to the course due to an additional $10 cart fee they charged last second. I go to get my cart and I was told I was going to ride with someone else. I told the starter I would wait or just ride with them in my own cart since I just paid a cart fee last minute too. He didn’t like that response and stuck me with a guy who probably wanted his own cart too. The starter said he’d buy us all a round of beers at the turn and mysteriously left work early when we made the turn (3 hours later) Luckily the 3 guys I got paired with were cool and we had a good time. But good lord it was like hitting off of concrete IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FAIRWAY. I was putting from 100 yards in with no issues. Shouldn’t be able to roll that far lol. All In all…worth $20 on a weekday. Don’t even try to go on a weekend and it’s not worth $40 anytime or any day.
First time
Friendly staff. Some holes were confusing. Many fairways were dry and a lot of bald spots. Like the setup of the holes. We had a good time. Seemed like a pretty busy day. Had to wait or let others play through because we felt rushed. Overall I would try the course again and hope for better conditions.
Good course for beginners
I try to get out once a week. I’ve played a lot of courses in STL and on the IL side. For the money, there are many courses in better shape. Lots of dirt spots in the fairways. Tee boxes were non existent. Pace of play wasn’t too bad. Lots of t shirt and shorts kind of players. Probably won’t go back.
……
Pace of play here is not a thing. We got rained out on hole 8 and got a whopping 9$ off for next time I play there. The “fairway” is awful. Tee box is awful. Save your money or play the extra money and golf somewhere nicer.
Don't waste your time on the weekend
They just want money, the management or Marshall's pay zero attention to what's the play of pace. 6 hour round. I had multiple groups in front and behind call for a Marshall. They basically said we aren't doing anything. I had a 6 group and a 8 person group on the course. The management didn't separate them. They wouldn't offer any refunds to anyone. Horrible management
Disappointing course management
Got the first tee time in an effort to beat the ladies league that starts at 715am on Fridays. Unfortunately no course Marshall and golfers are given the choice to start on 1 or 10. So we got behind 5 groups at the turn which is not what is expected when you have the first tee time of the day. Not good course management but certainly a cheap course to play. Course was soggy with rain and sprinklers going off creating the largest swarms of mosquitos I have ever seen. Not going back.
