Awful Course
This course is a complete GOAT RANCH!
The fairways have no grass, it's just weeds!!
What a joke!!
Please don't go here!
Everything I've written is completely true!!!
Father's Day Crowd
The course was a little spotty & it's only June. They'd better get some rain or there will be zero grass by the end of summer. Played in 4 hours on a Sunday (Father's Day) & it was crowded so not too bad for pace. There are a couple “interesting” holes (15 & 16). They wind along & over a creek. If you haven't played them before you need to check them out before you hit. It had been a long time since I played the course & I messed them up. The shop & restaurant looked well stocked. I got a good price on GolfNow so pretty much got what I expected.
Don't understand the negative reviews
My foursome played here on June 17th and I don't understand the number of recent negative reviews. I have played here probably a dozen times over the years, and while it's not Augusta-like conditions, I found it to be in as good or better conditions than in some previous visits. And i say this as a person who's been lucky enough to play some of the more famous courses in the country and can be VERY critical of course conditions. The greens were in good shape, as were the tee boxes. It is true that they were hard and could definitely use watering, but I've seen A LOT worse. The fairways were fine too. Some smaller bare spots here and there, but no worse than average for sure. Course is not terribly difficult, and it's fairly open,, but it's got several really good holes, and if you play from the tips I guarantee even a low handicapper will find some challenge. Don't be scared off by the negative reviews! It's a good value.
Skip it!
Course not well marked. Had to guess distance to creek/bridge, etc. tee boxes are desperate for water. "Fairways" are often in bad shape with lots of bald spots. A disappointing round of golf and we won't go back or recommend this course.
Sunset lakes
It was all right for the golf now price greens were good, tee boxes were getting dry so I hope they water them.
Poor excuse for a golf course!
I will try to keep it brief. Don't waste your time and money on this place. Anyone that gave a favorable review of this course is doing a disservice to the Golf Now community. I had not played here in 20 yrs. I thought it deserved another try since it is in it's 5th year of new ownership.
Miserable experience! Early June is prime time for excellent possible conditions, however, course was August dry. Fairways hadn't been watered since Mother Nature provided the last rain. Greens were in OK shape but fairly small. Fairways are a joke! More weeds and dirt than grass. You might as well play on asphalt. Dirt and weeds, dirt and weeds, dirt and weeds!
The design; definitely done "on the cheap", cart paths come into play on nearly every hole even when you make a good shot, all holes are forced into allotted space. Designer / architect should be ashamed.
Absolutely nothing is good about this course except for the location. This land should be repurposed as an industrial park.
Sunset on a Sunday
Great little course and good value. One thing..,need marshals on the course. Way too many slow, group, no etiquette.
Course needs a ranger!
Very VERY slow pace of play. No course management by management. I had two holes open in front of us and on track for a 3 hour round, then and then a foursome jumped in front of us with 2 of the 4 playing two balls and still lining up their 4th putt. Took notice of other groups on the course and saw several twosome, followed by a single, another 2 some, etc. Poor course management. No effort by staff to keep pace of play enjoyable.
Goat Ranch
Play course across the road!
Lucky Day With The Rain
It was a rainy week in St. Louis, but we managed to squeeze in a round of golf. There were some wet spots along the course, but not bad. The fairways appeared to have been seeded and were coming in nice and the course maintenance was good with the rough cut to an appropriate height in order to locate drifting shots. The greens played slow and were in decent shape. Cart paths had plenty of water in low lying areas. Tons of water hazards. They have a nice snack bar and grill in the club house.
Fun Course in Decent Shape
The weather has been tough this year but the fairways and tees are now grown in and it was a fun round. Greens were painted but very good. No problems at all with dry patches now. Lots of water...no sand traps. Still much improved over Sunset Lakes. This is a sharpshooter's course.
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your round at Sunset Hills. Thank you for your review.
Dont waste your time
The fairways had more dirt showing than a freshly tilled cornfield. Easy to pick up the ball when it came down in the fairways because of the plume of dust the ball would kick up. Be sure to bring a cordless drill for predrilling a hole in the ground before installing your tee"s. Greens were just airated and in decent shape for such a horrible golf course as a hole. This is definitely a $15.-$18 dollar on the weekend course.
Completely Un-playable
ALL fairways & approaches are nothing but dirt. No serious golfer should waste a day here.
Un-Playable!
It was completely un-playable. ALL fairways & approaches are nothing but dirt. I called before booking & was told that the course was in great shape since the flood which couldn't have been more false, The course should be closed. It's not worth playing for free.
Needs time to repair
The course is in terrible shape. The grass is still gone from the flood, and you are hitting off dirt most of the time, even on the fairways. Not fun to play.
Wait till later this year!, then check before playing.
I actually called before booking & they told me it was in great shape which was a total lie. I wouldn't trust ever booking there again.
PleasantSurprise
I read some less than favorable reviews prior to playing this course. I was pleasantly surprised to see the condition of the course when I played. Considering the time of year, this course was in very good shape. There are some nice par 5's and lots of water to make things challenging. I will play again.
Not Good, not horrible
There were definitely some bare spots in the fairways, tee boxes, and greens. There are also some fairways that are similar to rough. Ground was hard in tee boxes as well. I've played worse, and honestly I'd play this place again if it was cheaper. It's not that its a bad course I just can't understand how they can justify the prices when there are so many better course for less. I hope they are investing that money into improving the course. The staff was friendly and the clubhouse was fine. Course just needs work.
Unfriendly Staff
The course is in poor condition, but even more disturbing is the attitude of the staff. Extremely rude and unfriendly. I can't believe how poorly I was treated. They seemed to be upset because I booked through golf now. Very bad experience.
Golf with my son
The course was in poor condition. More weeds than grass. Trash cans were overflowing on the course.
I was almost hit by stray shots several times.

Rough conditions
If you like to play through a flooded plain choose this course. I hit some great drives then come to find out my ball is in a swamp or lake when I drive the cart up to find my shot
Thank you for reviewing our course. We are sorry that your experience at our facility was poor. We did our absolute best informing all golfers of the current, wet conditions. All tee times, on both golfnow.com and our website, currently have course alert icons up, and detailed verbiage that explains we are still recovering from weather. We are working hard to get the course back into shape, and would hope you visit us again soon. Please e-mail us at sunsethillsteetimes@outlook.com to further discuss.
Thank you for your feedback. We hope to see you back on the course again soon.
