A great course
I haven't played here in a few years but have been wanting to get back here for a long time. I live about 40 minutes away and with about 15 courses within a 15 minute drive from my house, 40 minutes is a long drive. The course was in fantastic shape. the fairways were well kept and green. The greens were rolling well, they had good speed with subtle breaks that made it all the more fun. The pro shop is small but well stocked. If I lived closer I would definitely look into becoming a member.
Postage stamp greens
Wildwood (originally Thunder Ridge) was designed by prolific local golf course architect Pete Craig (Blue Heron Hills, Country Club of Mendon, Old Hickory, Penfield Country Club, Salmon Creek, Shadow Lake, Twin Hills, Deerfield (with top local pro Bobby Hill, hence the original name Craig Hill).
It's frustrating hitting the ball 10-15 feet to the left of a center left pin and be off the green but this is what you get at Wildwood.
Much of the course drops down into a much lower level (which is wetter) and you may have to fight the bugs depending on the time of the year.
But all in all a decent challenge and well-maintained.
The par-3 17th is one of the prettiest holes you will see around Rochester. 201 yards from an elevated tee, surrounded by water (a creek) but there is a very generous landing area (fairway) in front that frames the hole.
Not a top notch public course but not a slouch either. Worth a visit especially in the fall BEFORE the leaves start falling.
One particular gripe - the range balls. There were some standard yellow range balls but mixed in with some old white scuds. How can you judge your shot with a ball that looks like it was new in 1960? Wildwood can and should do better.
Great value
This is another one of the great values south of Rochester NY.
It was 2:00 and 96 degrees when I went off. Less than 3 hours later I was done. Too hot for anyone else at that time. Plenty of cold drinking water on the course so I was fine in the heat.
The course is in excellent condition. Greens were fast and true. Bunkers were all raked and had the right amount of sand.
There are elevation changes, sharp dog legs, narrow holes and some very wide fairways. A good variety of holes and tee shots.
Excellent Condition
Great value as course is in excellent condition with greens running true.
Favorite Course
This courses layout is the main attraction. Tight Holes, Fun holes. bring enough balls! course conditions aren't the attracter here but usually are pretty good. this is the only course I could play 100+ times and not get bored over it. be careful of water hazards!
Hard course hard conditions
This place is pretty tough and knew that before playing here. The price wasn't bad for a fall weekend for only $15 for walking 9 holes. Though right off the bat I noticed the conditions here weren't great. The fairways were OK but the greens were bad. They had fertilizer pellets all over and big aeration holes too. The aeration was suposively done early September but they appeared to be done a week prior and none of the greens had the same speed. Its cheap and probably better in the summer, but when you golf here be sure not to bring Pro V1s because you will loose a bunch because its a tight and challenging course.
Challenging
What to say about wild wood that a round played wouldn't say for itself.
The course is always well kept, very dedicated staff with a very healthy member base.
Playing here is always a journey, an adventure and certainly down right painful at times. It is a testament to the game itself that only through perseverance and practice will success prevail.
The picturesque course has hidden daggers for the uninitiated, the front is open and straightforward, however it is the back 9 that's filled with risk reward situations.
Challenging is the motto and the course demands respect. Think you've figured this game out, play here once and you will find out.
Challenging back nine
Great course with the back nine being the most challenging. With water in play almost every hole. #17 is a very nice par 3 with a beautiful view.
Wildwood in the rain
I love the course but it was raining.. We had poor weather conditions and did not get to play many holes (3).
Very nice Staff
Just the right amount of challenging holes that every skill level can enjoy.
Awesome and beautiful course-- devilish greens
Everything was great from the staff to the course conditions to the food. Greens are very difficult, prices reasonable. I played 36 and can't wait to go again!!
Great Course
Great time and course is well maintained this year
Wild Wood Country Club
I think this is a semi-private course as I did see a custom 57chevy golf cart on the course. people let us play thru twice as we were a two-some. Only got hung up at the15th for a scramble ahead of us. Course was in great shape and I broke 100.
Go Play!... WildWood
The course was in very good shape. The Greens ran true and in good shape. This course has "A LOT" of trees and some narrow fairways. Very Picturesque with wildlife...deer...but don't forget your deer fly spray. Cannot beat the price of $17 on GolfNow.
Go Play!
Good day
Course was great, greens need some work. Very pretty course. Nice cart path. GPS in the carts was great.
Interesting course
Course has some very different hole including hills and water. Greens were fast and length a challenge for red and yellow players. Staff were yery nice!
Scenic, nice layout - great shape
You need to keep your shots straight due to plenty of water obstacles. The carts are plenty quick but I had to wait on each hole on the last half of the back nine due to many golfers arriving mid-afternoon. The par 3's are long.
Creative layout
Enjoyed my round here, shot 42/42. Plenty of tree trouble, bunkers were rock hard and greens were often difficult to read but in excellent shape. Had played there once before but found club selection difficult on tee box for par 4s and 5s as distances to hazards not clearly marked. Overall a good time and good value for the golfnow discount.
