Nice layout

Nice layout that starts a bit plain but improves as the round goes on. Condition a bit scruffy but to be expected for the horrible weather we've had over winter. Greens were good. Off course, not much of a pro shop and bar but enough for the essentials.

Top quality course. £30 for winter fees on a weekend is a great deal. No buggies due to previous poor weather so can be a challenge getting around if you’re not too fit, but all in all a great course that was in really good condition for the time of year. Staff were lovely too, only shame was the clubhouse bar overlooking the 18th was shutting at 5pm on a Saturday.

All regular greens are open and you don’t have to use your own matt on their fairways, however it’s winter tees (Driving range matts). The practice nets are closed due to them having holes in, there is a putting green but it’s not the best, but useable. The course is in a good condition to be fair the greens were a little bobbly on some holes. We paid £19.99 for a 10.40am tee time and I would come back and play again soon for sure.

Slow Play & Grumpy Members

Booking in process was slower than expected, waiting at the kiosk for a period of time, listening to the staff chatting in the bar area. When they came informed two others would be joining which was not an issue however this seemed to give the receptionist much amusement.
The golf itself started out as a nice round, lovely well maintained course conditions. You could tell the ground staff take pride in their work. There was also a good pace of play initially (1hr through 6) however by hole 7 the pace dropped off a cliff. We then encountered a members competition which delayed any continuing momentum. When people are queuing up on tee boxes it is never ideal, especially when they have no awareness and carry on regardless increasing the delay for everyone else. Even their own members were grumbling about their fellow members. The next 12 holes took 3.25 hours and constant waiting around.

Overall nice course let down by slow play and grumpy members.

Lovely layout, greens a bit fluffy, but will play again!

After a drive in the dark across the Peak District i arrived at this lovely hotel and golf course. Once I found the golf parking (drive all the way through the hotel car park and right of a down ramp) I found the full glory of this course. The clubhouse overlooks the 18th par three over water and you can tell this is going to be a good course. The first six holes are pretty straight forward, then you hit the 7th and the fun starts. From here onwards the holes are challenging, interesting and lovely to look at. The greens were very fluffy when we went so putts had to be struck hard to stay online and reach the holes. Some of the walks between holes are tough, but its worth the effort. Finishing on a par 3 might sound too easy, but over water with the whole clubhouse balcony watching, try that for pressure! Although this is a long trek to get to, I would certainly revisit in good weather as I imagine added wind and rainfall would make this a very tough, long round. Bar guy was really helpful and the cheese and ham toastie was lovely. Might have to try an overnighter here soon as at £139 in winter months, it looks a bargain IF the weather is mild and dry.

Shrigley

Payed Monday at 7.50 tee time. Forst 4 holes wasn't great course in poor condition all around. Bu kers full of deer foot prints as was the greens. Grass all over the green. Fairways either too long or worn down to mud. Overall very poor conditions for such an expensive course.

This is a course worthy of a buggy. We walked it and enjoyed it but it's tiring. An excellent variation of holes and challenging greens. The condition of both was excellent. Coffe was available at the club house beforehand, there seemed to be a halfway hut but wasn't open on this occasion. The course could do with one or two more sign posts but we managed. Overall very enjoyable on a sunny day.

Health Hazzard

Don't like to put down a golf course, but no one over 30 years old should go on this course. It is extremely hilly, and dangerous.

Forgot to mention, this golf course is short. The challenge is in the walk. The day I played Shrigley it had been raining heavily the previous day. I asked the pro if it was hilly, and he paused; this always is a sign of a hilly golf course, in my experience. I then asked him if I could hire a buggy, and he said "Not today, need to protect the course". In fairness, apart from where it was dangerously hilly, the course was not thaaat wet. Anyway, in reply to u314159995271, member of Shrigley, it is too, too hilly, and you must no that, or you are in denial - crazy golf? Yes, I've played crazy golf. The par 3 8th, I hit a 9 iron. The ball landed on a pathway to the right back side of the green and bounced twice up the hilly walkway and came back down and rested on the green, leaving me with a 15 footer which I missed by a whisker, yet another par. So that was a bit crazy, I thought.
When I wrote my initial review, I was a little annoyed. I've played many, many golf courses, don't mind playing the short ones, though I do prefer the real championship golf courses, like the Belfry. so, the only issue I had with Shrigley is that it is the hilliest golf course I have ever played, played a lot of golf in Spain, hilly golf courses over there, but nothing like Shrigley. I played Leominster golf course, the week before, for a fraction of the price I paid for Shrigley, and that was hilly too, but not hilly like Shrigley, no problem for a 61-year-old to handle. I should have said, do not go on Shrigley without a buggy and left it at that. So, if I have offended you, or anyone else, then I apologise.
The course itself is in good condition, but, as a visitor to your country, I played 6 rounds of golf and all the courses are in good condition. I find that it's rare these days to play a course in bad condition...

This course is in amazing condition, especially the greens. Philip61 obviously only ever played on a crazy golf course & doesn't realise that real golf courses aren't flat!

Well done to the staff for keeping the greens in immaculate condition!

Excellent course in fantastic conditions

Stunning course with some fantastic views. All areas of the course we're in fantastic conditions from the tee boxes, throughout the fairways and of course the greens. Even the bunkers were great. A relatively long course but at points quite forgiving. Lots of slopes so be prepared to find your fairway finder on the edge of the rough.

Quirky Golf Course

Challenging but very enjoyable Golf Course.
Views are incredible, set up is 1st class and the course was in great condition. No hole the same and some memorable holes out there. The Par 5 7th is up there as one of the toughest holes ive played. Seeing is believing.
Overall, a course i will definately play again. If you dont like a challenging walk then strongly suggest you hire a buggy. Its no Sunday Stroll out there
