Wet day at Howell Park
I played during a wet Saturday afternoon, but still before the rains came I would say that the course is probably in the best looking shape I've ever seen it. Sucks that it will be closed down soon, but it will be missed. A great place to practice the driver and there are plenty of par 5's and 4s.
Fairways
To many weeds but they keep it short.
Sad
Staff was very friendly, that was the highlight of the course.
Greens were in TERRIBLE shape, patchy, brown, some soaking wet, all in awful shape...
Stupid ditch literally effects probably 14/18 holes, it's VERY aggravating. We originally thought it would be better to pay $15 for an 18 hole course rather than spend $10 at a driving range, but honestly, you're better off spending $10 or $200 at a range compared to playing here. Yes, it's that bad.
Decent course for the money
As a beginner would have to say this course is well worth the money. Fairway conditions were pleasant not that much standing water. The greens were not in the greatest condition but as a beginner I can barely put as it is .. Overall would go back but for not more than the $15 I spent on the round...
Great for beginners
Only been playing for a year. Can't beat the price. Course is in decent shape for a city course. Will go again.
Good value course
This is an old municipal North Baton Rouge par-70 course. It is short and flat, and tends to hold water, so don't play it after several days of rain. A canal goes right through the middle and provides a water hazard on many holes. The trees are large and line both sides of most holes, so keeping it in the fairway off the tee is a must. The staff has worked hard to get the course into good condition, and the greens are improved. Staff is friendly, and the facilities, while old, are clean. Great course to get in a quick round; good value. Best to finish your round well before sundown, given the location
Great for learning the game
Friendly staff & pace of play over shadow the huge culvert, small greens, & shady neighborhood. Regardless of the limited practice area, the course alone is better than any driving range & costs less to play 18 during the week than any range near by.
Howell Park
Fun course. Not the prettiest facilities, they are a little old, but the people are friendly and the course was fun and you can't beat the price.
Decent Course
This is a decent course in my opinion. Staff was very friendly. Played a single and had to skip two groups...pace was average though. Greens were very slow due to maintenance. Overall this course was average.
older course that needs help
This course is very old and doesn't have a lot to offer. The course was in pretty rough shape. The fairways all parallel each other and they look very similar. There is a deep concrete drainage ditch that cuts through the course and affects several holes. It kooks and plays like many of the old municipal courses from the 1960's. It is pretty inexpensive to play so you aren't out much if you do decide to play.
