Great Staff
I played on February 10th and lost my keys while playing. The staff was very helpful and helped me look in every cart on and off the course, sent a message to all the carts, and even drove around asking people if they had seen missing keys. One the staff ended up finding my keys and returned them to me. Great course, very friendly staff, and all around a great place to golf.
Garbage pin locations
Played here for the 2nd time and was shooting well. But there were 4-6 holes where the flags were less than 5-6 feet from the fringe on a slope and tucked away? I understand making a course difficult.. but on a weekend why are you doing this? It slows down pace of play so much. And several were not regulation. Granted the course isn’t very difficult. But there were several(5-6) holes that you could ONLY be 15-20 feet for birdie... and for the average golfer no chance. Just thought it slowed play all day and made it tough for the others in my group. Other than that the greens were receptive and rolled fairly true. I shot a 42-35 so I was happy. But just something to think about
Good times
For this time of year we expect the courses to be dormant and with the rain we have had there will be wet conditions. That said, I found the greens to be excellent. Good speed and roll true
I love the layout and the friendly atmosphere. We will continue playing this course in the future.
Good condition, friendly staff, scenic, great value
Indian Valley delivered a solid golf experience yesterday.
Jonathan and Claude in the pro shop are friendly, helpful, and professional.
I played the front nine by myself. Two slower players were in front of me. I just enjoyed the experience and hung back to give them space.
Greens were slow but smooth due to recent aeration. Course conditions were good, muddy on only a few holes.
Played the back nine with 3 walkers, due to slow play in front of them. They were great and fun to join up with.
Indian Valley offers great value, scenery, good conditions, and friendly staff.
I highly recommend The Valley (as it is now called) to everyone.
Aerated Greens
The greens had been recently aerated and most holes had cart path only!
Frost Delay Start
My tee time as at 8am , called ahead to confirm there was a Frost Delay. I was able to tee-off by myself at 10am and finished the round in 2 hrs & 15 mins. w/ 90 degree rule. Freddy in the Pro Shop is a friendly host and made sure I would get off first since I had a flight to catch in Raleigh 50 mins away. . For a municipal course I would give the tee boxes, sand traps and greens high marks. , even though a few of the greens had some bald spots. The fairways are good and mother-nature took its toll on a few fairways ( rain/flooding) which are cart-path only. The lay-out is classic woodland golf with some nice elevation changes. There is some visual homes along the course, but not enough to take away its charm that you are in the woods or along the wide stream that runs by a couple of holes.. A few well placed water hazards test your guts & skills.
The price is very fair and good. I did not use the practice facility or snack bar as I was pressed for time. The season is FALL and the crew does a good job to blow the many leaves off the fairway & greens, but if you wonder too far off the fairway, there is a good chance you will not find a ball that you would certainly find in the summer months. Played from the 2nd set of tees ( 6,100 yds +/-) and started with 5 bogies and a double before I found a groove with 4 pars, then it was back to more bogy golf. Can't wait to come back and conquer a few more holes.. Their is a par 5 ( 12th ) that I think will create problems for me to par and more so birdie. On this round , had 2 makeable birdie putts but came up empty. Coming back again soon,. Enjoyable layout.
More difficult than slope and rating suggest
From the tips this course has a 71.2 rating and a 125 slope. Maybe in the middle of the summer when balls fly farther and run longer those numbers are accurate, but on this mid-60s day with winds in the 10-20 mph range, this course played MUCH longer than its 6500 yards (that total is a little misleading because Indian Valley a par 70 with only two par 5s). Under those conditions the course was a grind for this 12 handicapper. That said: this is an interesting and fair layout, surprisingly well-kept given the low greens fee. The greens were in good shape, although too many players here apparently don't fix their ball marks. I'll definitely be back, although next time I'll move up one tee box.
