Potentially a great course
This is my hometown course, and its why this will be so critical. The layout is fantastic, its on the outskirts of Claremore, not far from RSU, between the Verdigris River and a few neighborhoods north of town. The course has some capability of being challenging, and theres been evidence of work done to improve playing conditions, but right now its just not there. The Fairways chunky and its almost as if the seed hasnt taken root. Erosion seems to be effecting the back half of the front 9. It truly is capable of being better if they can get that grass to be less chunky. Of course Im typing this in March but its been like this year round. I play this course 5-6 times a year and everytime this is the only course I chunk 50% of my shots because of course conditions. Staff is phenomenal and I know they are working on it. I would love to come back this summer and leave an exceptional review on my round. Some very challenging holes, #7 is about a 75 degree dog leg right with a sizeable pond on the right. Good for challenging folks with a lot of confidence in their driver. #8 follows it up with a long fairway with thick trees on the right and houses on the left. Challenges with a creek and pond trailing from the front of the green and through the middle of the trees. Then you follow with a blind shot at a slight dogleg left to finish the front where the Green is blocked from view by a hill in the middle of the fairway. #12 is another real fun one, trees block the view of a raised green and you have two hills to climb on a long par 5. Again they look to have laid fresh sod down in the fairway to recover a bald spot. #14 is another blind shot to the green covered by a hill in the middle of the fairway. #15 is the most daunting hole to play as its a par 5 with another ridiculous dog leg left, up a hill and down to another slightly raised green. #16 offers trees and another dog right. The course shortens up your tee approaches often and it makes it challenging to WANT to pull out your driver on every hole or play it safe. 17 gives you a pond that is fully in play when the winds in your face. Greens needing work on this hole but once it gets spruced up a bit, can be a challenging yet beautiful par 3. To finish of 18, a dangerous pond on the left, a bunker to the south of it and an uphill approach to the green with a leftside bunker underneath.
Tons of potential here with this course if they can get the conditions more player friendly, and still an extremely challenging course that will make you question aboiut 70% of your shots.
Better options out there
Chose to play here again for convenience only. Tee boxes are pure sand. Fairways are mostly hard pan dirt with little grass. Some greens had large dead areas with sand covering them. Putting was inconsistent at best. Layout of course is fine with some challenging holes. But conditions are below what they should be. Def better options available than this course.
New Greens Are In
Overall course was in decent shape. New greens are in and all were in good shape and rolled true with the exception of #8 which had a lot of bad spots on it.
Unfriendly staff
The course isn't terrible for a public course. I actually like it and have played multiple times. Unfortunately the staff makes this the last time I'll play here or recommend Heritage Hills to anyone else. The first few times I thought they might just be having a bad day. They weren't rude but I felt like I was bothering them just paying for our round. They did not want to be there. This last time they stepped up their game and were actually rude. Most pro shops are super friendly. This one isn't. The kids helping around the clubhouse were nice. Just the older gentlemen inside were rude.
Enjoyable Day
The course was in pretty fair shape. Greens were spotty in places but very fast. Nice layout with challenging holes and good fairway conditions. Will definitely play this course again.
Cart path only a bit execessive
Golf course has made huge improvements repairing the past winter’s damage. I was the only person playing on the front nine of the course at 10am on Thursday August 3.
Having 100% cart path only along with several temporary greens (greens are recovering from winter storm damage) might be a bit excessive. Regular experienced players will treat the course with caution and respect, 100% cart path only will cause a lot of experienced, course respecting players to play elsewhere until 90% to/from your ball and cart path is reinstated.
This Course is in horrible shape.
The cost of was $50 a round which would be a good value if the course was in good shape. However, there was winter kill on every green we got to play on . Plus 5 temporary greens. It should have cost like $20.
Save your money
Booked on Golfnow to play with a army buddy of mine. The course was is terrible shape. No practice putting green. There was, I believe, 6 temporary greens and still other greens that putting was almost impossible. Could be a nice course but for the foreseeable future I would go elsewhere.
Horrible Course
Temporary Greens, Dry Fairways, No Cart Girl past 2 pm on Saturdays, Group of 5 in front of us didn't let us play through, this has to be one of the worst courses I have ever played.
Don’t play this course right now
I’ve played this course several times and I really like it but right now a lot of the greens are not in very good shape. 4 greens are unplayable and they have temporary greens set up in the fairways. I would pass on this course for now and wait till it’s been repaired.
Poor condition
Greens and some fairways were in poor condition, several temporary greens were set up. Won’t return until next year if it’s in better shape
Don’t waste your money!
Course was in absolute terrible condition and half of the holes had a “temporary green” in the middle of the fairway outlined with spray paint.
Best condition of any course I’ve seen in Oklahoma this year!!
Overall course is best conditioned considering the nasty winter weather this year!! Nothing is ever going to be perfect, and lots of folks are being critical without consideration that most areas in Oklahoma were subjected to several nights of below zero temperatures. Very unusual for this area. This course has been fortunate due to terrain and overall protection than most courses.
Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The course is in the process of recovering. I’ve placed this course when visiting relatives over the past 30+ years and it’s been a pleasure to play here.
3 Stars because 2.5 wasn’t an option
Has a lot of potential, but all the greens except for 18 are dirt. There are currently 3 provisional holes. Some of the fairways are good some are ok and one is almost all dirt. With a little work this course could be really nice.
Conditions
Staff is very friendly. Over priced given the course conditions. We are out of the winter phase and the course was still beat up especially the greens with big chunks of dead spots and moss growing, tee boxes were hard as concrete and nothing but dirt, fairways were fine. Pace of play could have been better, I wish the club house would manage this better. I played in a threesome, the group in front of us was 5 and both groups had to wait on a slow pairing that must have thought they were in the US Open.
