Greens are in great shape right now
I've been playing Lions about 1-2 times a month lately. It's been my go-to muni in #atx, largely because it's a confounding layout that I just can't seem to figure out.
This was also my first round since covering the Ben Crenshaw restoration proposal last week, so it was a lot of fun, and kind of distracting, to think about the changes to some of the holes. I really hope it happens.
Anyways, I was playing with someone from out of town, so I was glad the greens were in such great shape. I was also surprised how green the fairways have gotten in the last two weeks. It's been a wild winter in Austin, and it looks like the grass is coming out of dormancy fairly quickly.
I played horrible this morning, but had a wonderful day away from the computer for $24 walking and got around in 3:30 as a three-ball. Had Maudie's Tex-Mex across the street after, and my dog, who came along for the loop, is now passed out in bed, where she'll be the rest of the day.

My local course. Super fun course and in very good shape right now. Much better than all of the other municipal courses in Austin. Pace of play is a bit slow but expected as there are a lot of people booked for teetimes. Always love coming back to this course. 10 out of 10 for a Muni.
Wonderful Muni
Third time playing the course and my only complaint was the foursome behind us was right behind us and it lead to rushed putts, dropped balls when shot was not easily found, and an overall sense of urgency. Also as we finished 16 there was a party of 6+. Maybe having a marshall at 1 and 10 to ensure tee times and pace is maintained. Fairways and greens were well kept. Looking forward to playing again!
Do whatever you can to avoid this course.
They couldn’t pay me to play here again. If you own a 70s home, make sure to practice putting on your shag carpet to prepare yourself for the greens here. Greens are as thick as the fringe or 1st cut of rough should be. The tee boxes are even worse. Our cart just about died around hole 12, going about 1 mile per hour so we pushed it for the next 4 holes. We teed off at 8:30 and ended with a dead cart, unreal. It finally stopped completely on 17, so we got out and walked. When we got to the clubhouse the man there tried to refuse any sort of refund and then got upset with us when we explained that we paid extra for a cart.
AVOID THIS COURSE AT ALL COSTS!!!!
If you suck at putting, come here.
I only say if you suck at putting to come here, because the shag carpet that they call greens are so bad, like atrocious. You eventually don’t care anymore and stop trying to read the ball. Cherry on top was that for our 8am tee time, our cart died on 16 and it was difficult to even get a refund for the cart with the office staff. 0/10 experience. Save your money and play Kizer/Clay/Morris williams for the same price.
