Two long par 4s (15 & 16) make for a meaty finish. Photo submitted by BrandonTuckerGA on 06/12/2017
Great Price, Great Layout
Greens in great shape, a little sandy, but rolling well, fairways were muddy on the first 4 holes, but we had tons of rain the previous week. Small Greens that really challenge your irons and wedges, but never overly punishing for bad shots. For the price, as good as any of the other courses charging double
A mixed bag but OK overall
First, the pros: fairways and tees in decent shape, carts pretty new, staff is friendly, good price and a good value overall. The cons: very slow play on a Friday, they let a five-some on the course; most greens OK but 2 or 3 were poor; there was beverage cart service but we did not see anyone for 11 holes and then when the cart arrived it had almost nothing left to sell. So its a mixed bag experience and if I had paid more I would have been disappointed. Still, I'd recommend this for most golfers except the most demanding, for your everyday hacker like me its a good value and experience.
Great local go-to
Love this track, and always the best prices in town. It's in good enough shape as well, to justify choosing this over plenty other local courses. Back nine is a super fun layout as well, particularly Love holes 13 & 14
Great Greens
Since this is the old Austin Country Club, the layout is really great and it’s in very good condition. The greens are full and fast. I highly recommend this course.
Winter course
This course is bad condition . ( I think all over Austin public courses are )
I expect to be bad condition in winter ( so do summer 🤣) but wow really bad .. fairways and greens both .
Best value muni in Austin
RIverside GC is the former Austin Country Club, now part of Austin Community College. Staff is awesome, the greens are in great shape on most holes. Tee boxes can use a little work. Par 5s are reachable in 2. Very walkable course. Great value!
Course was pretty rough
Yes, we have had a bit of rain, but the course was in pretty bad shape. Yes, grass is dormant now, but again, there really was hardly any grass.
Not to nitpick, but course wasn't worth it. Need to fix some of the drainage issues for sure. Cart path only 3-4+ days after rain is kind of silly.
On the positive side, I got a ton of steps in!
Flooded
Course was flooded by staff insisted because of prepay would have to play or forfeit tee time. No switching or rainouts. Felt dangerous playing out there because it was so wet.
The greens are in terrific shape. There was tons of wild life.
It’s been a tough winter
On a day in mid-January when temperatures went into the 70’s after a week in the 30’s, this old Perry Maxwell-designed course (once the home of the Austin Country Club) showed the effects of a tough winter. We weren’t just dealing with tight lies on thin brown grass; we were looking for patches of thin brown grass amidst the bare dirt. Greens were a bit bumpy, and several gave the appearance of having been sanded for ice (which, of course, they weren’t, but then where did all those clumps of sand come from?). So, the course was not presenting its best face.
Nevertheless, playing behind a pretty full tee sheet ahead of us, our 5-some finished in just a little more than 4 hours and enjoyed the day despite the course conditions. I suspect things will improve markedly in the spring and summer, but so will the crowds.
Overall, the course conditions were commensurate with the price ($38 for green fees & cart). If you go in with the proper expectations, it will be enjoyable.
Great Simple Course
Great simple course. Fairways and greens in good conditions, can get waterlogged in some areas, especially in the bunkers. Greens are fast and different than the Austin Munis. Not very challenging or varied layout, but simple and enjoyable.
Great for last minute TTs
Course has improved immensely. Love that the grill delivers drinks and food to you on the course.
Good day at links
No frills golf course and the tee box and greens were in decent shape compared to other municipalities type golf courses. Tight green between sand traps and small water hazards.which I no doubt hit on multiple holes!) definitely play there again
