Black Rock Golf Course
About
Black Rock Golf Course may be one of western Maryland's newest courses but it's located near some of the country's most historic sites. Antietam Battlefield and Harper's Ferry are just a few minutes away from this scenic course. The opening holes of the layout are tucked into the Shenandoah Valley while the back nine climbs uphill, offering views that stretch across the Appalachian Mountains. The golf course has plenty of holes that will please long hitters, but mature trees and thick rough frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy. Traps protect the front of most of the greens and you'll come across dramatic undulations on some. The par-4 13th is arguably Black Rock's toughest hole. This sharp dogleg right has a massive tree to the right as well as a pond right in front of the green.

Good course but
Good course nice practice ranges and nice layout friendly for new players (I am less then six months in ). Biggest draw back is it was a shotgun start did not know that but got lucky and got started on back 9. Over all good course will play again
Shotgun Start
This was my first time playing here and it definitely won’t be my last. The scenery is beautiful and the facilities have undergone very nice improvements. The one thing I’m not crazy about was the shotgun start after the frost delay. By the time my group made it to hole #1 the pro shop had begun starting people on 1 like normal. This caused a huge slowdown and a lot of waiting. Also, the grill was not open, but it was still being renovated. Great course though for the money.
Great Course
Play here a few times a year as it is a bit of a drive. Never fails to be in great condition! Love playing here!
Great Course
Played here for the first time over a year ago. It was great to get back! Course was in great shape, pro shop staff very friendly! Hope to be back before another year goes by!
Black Rock
Pace of play was 4hrs., 20 minutes on mid-day Wednesday. There are some bare spots on the course, but all courses in this area have some due to the drought conditions. Fairways are otherwise very good with pleasant scenery. Rough is too high in many places. Sand traps look like clay texture instead of white sand. There are numerous ball marks on the greens needing repair. The course does not provide drinking water, and was no beverage cart. Water, drinks and snacks for sale in Pro Shop. Snack bar was closed. Staff is very pleasant.
US Open Rough??
I've always liked this course, there are some interesting holes, conditions are decent for a muni. But they have to do something about the rough, it is way too thick. If you hit it in there you might not find it, much less be able to hit it. Really detracts from what otherwise is a nice playable course. Rough is just unplayable.
Wow! I loved this course
I am a Montgomery County golfer and I enjoy some very nice courses especially for the prices. This Black Rock course would fit nicely into that group. Greens were impeccable, rough perfectly trimmed and the pace of play was excellent even though there was no marshall - it was a Monday. But the best part was the layout. All the holes were unique. I know I'm gushing but each hole I went to was a gem. The only part that was not special was the range, which was fine but not up to their standards. It appears the clubhouse eating area is nice too but hardly anyone was there. I'm definitely driving the 45 minutes to play again with my friends this time.
Always in Excellent Condition
My annual trek to Hagerstown, Black Rock is always a solid choice for a weekend round. It's reasonably priced (recognizes Veterans for a discount even on weekends), the pace of play is good, and course conditions are always excellent. Each hole is unique with elevation changes, blind shots, and extremely small greens--target golf at its best! We had friends meet us there (it's almost 1.5 hours), but they are always game to play Black Rock. Worth the trip they say...as do we! They are remodeling the club house, so the snack bar was not opened, but they generally have pretty good food. Black Rock is a hidden gem!
Nice Course but almost no food options
The course was in great shape and pace of play was very good. Only disappointment was there was no food available outside of crackers and chips. Their food service has been shutdown since COVID hit over 3 years ago.
