Waldorf Astoria Golf Club
Played On 05/15/2016Well Managed Quality Course
Played twice and enjoyed the course and the golf itself both days. One minor issue was rectified by the head pro immediately after he was informed. They treat you well, but they do notice who booked a deal thru GolfNow versus their regular prices.
MetroWest Golf Club
Played On 05/10/2016Changed and Not for the Better
I have played this course several times over the last couple of years. This was the worst shape that I have ever seen it in since the renovation. GPS's have been removed from the carts (wires cut and wrapped around the steering column), and as noted by other reviewers the course itself is in bad shape. Maybe it's new management or something, but the quality has definitely dropped.
Dubsdread Golf Course
Played On 05/09/2016Historic Course, Challenging Golf
This course has tighter fairways than most newer courses. It's a good, entertaining round, but you need to focus on staying in the fairway. It's built for club distances that existed in the 1920's, not todays long ball style.
The Frog at the Georgian
Played On 05/01/2016Average Course with Above Average Green Fees
For the money, I would rather play any of the RTJ Trail Courses in Alabama. They are in better shape, cost less and are more interesting layouts.
Wolf Creek Golf Course
Played On 04/28/2016Worth Playing Again
A friend and I decided to try this course based on the ratings. When we got to the course we discovered they had recently aerated the greens. The young lady was really, really apologetic about the fact that no one had told us this when we booked and ended up letting us play for cart fees to make it up to us. What an interesting layout! I would definitely like to try it again when the greens are healthy.
Superstition Springs Golf Club
Played On 03/01/2016Fun Course, Good Value
Nice layout with plenty of challenges to keep things interesting. Front Nine is fairly straightforward, back nine is more tricky. If you can get a reasonable rate, it's definitely worth your time to play this course.
Grand Canyon University Golf Course
Played On 02/29/2016A Little Disappointed
We played this course because of the hype surrounding its re-opening. Cost was reasonable for this time of year in Phoenix, so we thought we'd give it a try. GCU uses this course and students make up the bulk of the workforce. Unfortunately, that translates to weak/ineffective course marshals and the pace of play is really slow. Expect a 5hr round for sure. Overall, not bad for a public course, but you can do better for similar prices.
Palm Beach National Golf Course
Played On 02/12/2015Overrated
Decent course, but heavily used. Tee boxes and fairways need work. Greens are in pretty good shape. There are better places nearby for what you pay to play here.
Atlantic National Golf Club
Played On 02/11/2015Excellent Course and Facilities
Everything you should expect in a golf course. Pace was slow because of the crowd, but to be expected. Frequent cart service and great condidtions overall.
Huntsville Country Club
Played On 12/26/2014Hot Deal Value
Got a Hot Deal round for ~$20! Definitely worthwhile at that price, but I wouldn't spend much more to play this course. A group of 10 split into two groups of 5 ahead of us. Since they were all playing together, they weren't letting our twosome pass so we waited on pretty much every hole. Even with that, we still finished in 4 hours.
Also, beware of the club house beverage prices; $2.25 for a 12oz soda and it took the young man almost 5 minutes to figure how how to give change after we had to tell him how much change we were due.
The Club at Savannah Harbor
Played On 12/19/2014Great Resort Course
Played the Member tees (combination of Black, Gold & Silver) and had a great time. Course is good shape for the time of year.
River at Hampton Cove Golf Course
Played On 12/13/2014Best Public Course in the Huntsville Area
I have played both the Highlands and River courses numerous times. Both are great although I personally prefer the Highlands course. Players of all skill levels can have fun if you pick the right set of tees. In comparison to other RTJ Trail sites I like it better than Muscle Shoals or Silver Lakes, a little less than Oxmoor Valley, Grand National or Magnolia Grove and about the same as Capitol Hill or Cambrian Ridge.
I wish all the RTJ Trail courses would adopt the in-cart GPS system used at Ross Bridge!
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 12/01/2014Fun Course, Reasonablly Priced
A very enjoyable course at a reasonable rate, especially now with the Winter price increases everywhere in the area.
The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Ross Bridge
Played On 11/09/2014Great Course!
Played several times as a trail card reward round. Always a fun, enjoyable round. I just wish the rest of the RTJ Trail courses would adopt the in-cart GPS system they use here!
Ridge at Oxmoor Valley Golf Course
Played On 10/04/2014Lots of Hills!
I've played this course a couple of times. The last time was cart path only due to rain earlier in the week. Be prepared to hike if this is the case. The course is all hills and valleys. It can be a lot of fun, but it can also be alot of work. By the time we finished our round over 4.5hrs later we were worn out.
Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge
Played On 06/22/2014Beautiful Course, Great Staff
Fun, challenging ( just enough) and just the right amount of desert. Would have liked to see the cart girl a couple more times given the heat.
Quintero Golf Club
Played On 06/21/2014Don't Undrstand the Hype
When the development of the Quintero community stalled, apparently so did everything else. The pro shop feels like it used to be the sales office. You drive from there 5 minutes to the practice range and first tee. The course itself is nice, but you can get a similar ( and in my opinion better) experience at Longbow or Eagle Mountain over in Mesa for less money and a shorter drive from Phoenix. Food/drinks on the beverage cart are expensive as noted by other reviewers. Overall, there are better courses for the money in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.
The Club at Savannah Harbor
Played On 05/25/2014Bring the Bug Spray and Have Fun!
We played on a Sunday afternoon with nice weather and a good breeze off the water. The course is absolutely beautiful and in great shape! This is one of the best courses I have ever played. The mosquitos were biggest drawback.
PROS: Beautiful Course with a challenging layout. The starter and pro-shop staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Great facilities.
CONS: Mosquitos, mosquitos, mosquitos. I wish someone had mentioned this before we headed out. So busy swatting bugs it was almost impossible to strike the ball on holes 2 - 5. If it weren't for the beverage cart girl who loaned us some of her insect repellent, we might not have been able to make it to purchase our own when we made the turn. Also, suprisingly, the pro shop was closed when we finished jusst after 6 pm.
Overall, I thought it was a fun and entertaining day. If I have the opportunity to play this course again I will bring the insect repellent ahead of time and play from what they called "Member" tees (mix of Black, Gold and mostly Silver) versus the Gold which was a little long for my game.
Great tip. Thanks for playing with us! Hope to see you again soon!
