Firecliff at Desert Willow Golf Resort
Played On 09/23/2015Great conditions for late September
My brother and I signed up for a 10:20 hot deal and arrived 40 minutes early as usual. The course had the range closed but offered to let us out early. The nice couple just ahead of us waved us through on the second hole. From that point we saw nobody on the course until we reached the 14th hole. The foursome ahead of us saw us and played quickly to keep just ahead. We finished is just under 3 hours.
The conditions of the course were outstanding. This course is one of the best in the entire Palm Springs Area. It has everything you would expect, lots of lakes, tons of sand-traps and really nice well kept undulating greens. We talked about doing a replay, but it was just too hot and we have 4 more days in a row to complete the trip.
SilverRock Resort
Played On 09/22/2015Very Hot day, course in fair shape
Unfortunately we played this course on a day when we had extremely high humidity and very hot. Maybe its why I rated it lower.
There is one absolutely DEAD green, the 17th hole that should be, but is not being repaired. There are a couple of just plain stupid holes, like a par 4 that is 453 yards long from the "regular" tees. Also a lot of burned out areas, some expected for late September. I just did not like the layout all that much. This is probably an OK course to play in the spring time.
The Classic Club
Played On 09/21/2015Best Course in Palm Springs area
We arrived at the course and were greeted by two guys at the bag-stand, they did everything right. The place is luxury. Undoubtedly the finest golf course I have played in 20 years. You had to search to find a spot that was not perfect on the course, and the user friendly first cut was 20 yards wide.
Our Golfnow tee time was @ 10:48 AM. We checked in, went to the range and the starter approached us. Since we were a twosome and lots of people were already on the course he asked if we would like to start on #8, close to the clubhouse, and we would be out in front of everyone. Of course we would. The Golf course is incredible, there are lakes all over the place, massive waterfalls, many, many sand traps and very nice elevated greens. When we got off the green @ 18, a guy was there to escort us to the 1st tee to finish our front 7.
We finished our round in just over 3 hours and I looked at my brother and said, "If they offer a decent replay fee, would you like to play a second round". He said "you must be reading my mind" We asked the cart guys and Marshal. Yes, a very reasonable $25 and the first tee is open.
We paid the fee and finished the second round in just over 3 hours. The cart guy cleaned up our clubs, jumped on the back and invited us to drive the cart to our car.
A great day at a magnificent golf layout, what more could you ask for. This place knows how to treat their customers, something that is truly appreciated.
Laguna Seca Golf Club
Played On 07/31/2015Course in great shape
We ended up playing two rounds. The replay rate was the same as the very discounted rate we got off of Golfnow. I thought it was a bit high for replay, but after driving 74 miles it was better than heading home early on a Friday and putting up with traffic.
The round was very enjoyable, the greens were in very good shape except for a couple of dead spots on the front edge. Well maintained considering the drought year we are having in California.
Cinnabar Hills Golf Club - Lake/Canyon
Played On 06/10/2015Very nice layout, challenging, lots of elevation changes
I played with another single, they allowed each of us to have our own cart as the course was not very busy on this date.
I have played this course many times in the past and it is still a very nice course. The only drawbacks were the fact that we are having a drought in CA, the edges of the course are much drier and its brown in many places. The greens are large and difficult to read. They were aerated a month ago, but still show some signs of that maintenance as there are a few dead spots on the green. The locals claim the greenskeeper says there is to much sodium in the water. my belief is they used sand that was not clean.
Over all, still a good play, I will not hesitate to return here if and when the prices is right.
Rams Hill Golf Club
Played On 04/19/2015Fantastic layout, wonderful course
Aside from the hard greens (new) we had a grand time playing this newly reopened course. The greens will soften over time but even though you could not fly a ball to a pin location we all enjoyed playing here
San Juan Oaks Golf Club
Played On 04/03/2015Great Layout, fairway traps like concrete
San Juan Oaks is a very nice course. Unfortunately the maintenance of the course is not so nice. The fairway traps have not been touched in ages, evidence are concrete hard bottoms with weeds growing that are at least a couple weeks old. The greens on the back nine had recovered somewhat, however the greens on the front were full of holes, slow and bumpy from recent aeration. This is a great layout, but somebody needs to remind the staff that the maintenance of the traps makes it a real golf course.
Primm Valley Golf Club - Lakes Course
Played On 10/23/2014Great Day, Great course
Only a couple of spots left after overseeding, greens were in excellent condition, course is always a great play. Played a little slow, but that is expected in mid-day, so I have no complaints.
West at Rancho Canada Golf Club
Played On 10/10/2014Good Golf Course, some tight fairways
This course is in surprisingly good condition considering the drought in California. Apparently they have there own wells and some recycled water. The course was very green, greens in good condition, a little on the slow side for my likes, but acceptable. As a twosome we played on a Friday mid morning and finished is less than three and a half hours. There are a couple of holes that are hard to see which direction to hit your drives, but we did figure it out by looking at the scorecard. First time at the course, won't be the last.
Salinas Fairways Golf Course
Played On 10/03/2014Very nice muni-type course
I found the course to be in surprisingly good shape for a municipal type course, the fairways were green and the greens rolled true, not to fast, but certainly not to slow. We had a very enjoyable day.
Skywest Golf Course
Played On 09/17/2014Nothing to write home about
The course conditions were poor, either too wet, or too dry, greens were slower than anywhere I have played in 10 years. The course has no redeeming qualities, noise from the airport next door, wind off the bay, tons of wet spots from the breakdown of the irrigation pipes, dry spots because of that breakdown, sand-traps that are really like hard dirt, some greens that are dead, others that look good but never run true. I personally will never play it again as its in a word- Boring. Played last night and can only remember one par three hole that had a lake in front, all the rest of them go back and forth and all look exactly the same, trees on both sides, sand traps on both sides of the greens and no elevation changes more than two feet.
Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
Played On 09/05/2014Great layout, one of my favorite courses
Once the five-some ahead of us waived us thru on the second hole, the two of us zoomed thru the course in just under 3 hours. The greens are in excellent condition, the fairways are spotty in a few places, but with the drought conditions, expected.
The Ranch Golf Club
Played On 06/06/2014Difficult layout, not for beginners.
I very much like playing this course, its a real test of golf. Many people do not play here as its the most difficult and challenging course in the area. It brings you back to reality. I would give the course an excellent conditions rating except for one thing. The sand traps are awful. They have no sand in them, its near impossible to play a regular shot. You must literally chip shots out of the sand traps. The hard clay in the bottom of the traps is impossible.
Seascape Golf Club
Played On 05/30/2014Wonderful golf course
I ended up playing two rounds as the pro shop let me go an hour early as there was nobody there to play. I joined three people on the 6th hole. The weather was awesome, the greens are always very very fast and tricky if you end up above the hole. Fairways are a little sparse in places probably due to the water shortage.
Tracy Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/09/2014Great greens but wind blew ball around on them
Very nice golf course. To bad it was so windy especially for the back nine. Wind blew the ball around on the very nice greens. Fairways were a little dry, but overall in good condition.
Mt. Woodson Golf Club
Played On 04/20/2014Challenging Golf Course
Mt. Woodson is a beautiful layout cut into the mountains. It is both very difficult and challenging. If you can keep on the green stuff you will have a wonderful round.
Pheasant Run Golf Course
Played On 04/19/2014Course plays long with the valley wind
This is my second time playing this course. If I play there again I intend to play a combo of tees as the layout is to long for a 70 year old senior from the white tees at 6350. There are two many over 410 up to 440 yard long par 4 holes. Its a very nice course but difficult with the wind that is common in the valley.
Stevinson Ranch
Played On 04/18/2014Great conditions except for dying greens
Its been 20 years between rounds here. It will not that long to return. Enjoyed the round. Greens are fast but not very good condition. There are two many spots that are dying. The fairways were green and beautiful and the course is a nice challenge for all players with multiple tees to choose.
The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch
Played On 10/18/2013Short but challenging course
I played two rounds of Golf yesterday @ Salinas Country Club, the greens are fast, sloped and difficult, just the way most golfers like them. The course is a little on the short side, but has several skinny fairways and tough smallish greens that make up for the lack of length, and don't get fooled by the distance there are some tough, tough holes on these sloped hills to navigate.
Its a beautiful layout with almost no homes in view/play, only a few holes on the beginning of the back nine.
Playing golf here is Always an enjoyable experience.
Los Lagos Golf Course
Played On 9/16/2013Not informed that aeration took place within 48 hours of tee time.
This course is a nice place to play most of the time. The course is generally in nice condition, but today we were not informed on the Golfnow website that the course aerated within the last 48 hours and the greens were in incredibly lousy condition. The greens were still covered with sand, slower than I have ever seen. Its not fair for them to charge anywhere near the price that a normal round costs. Luckily I paid less through Golfnow, however, it was still to much considering the conditions of the greens.
