Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
Played On 04/11/2021Blue Heron Pines Golf Club
Played On 07/01/2017Decent course
Played on July 1st in the afternoon. IT was HOT! Played as a single and rangers were nice enough to move me ahead of a couple (slow) foursomes. Course was in good shape for July. As others have said, not a lot of memorable holes, but overall it's a good layout with holes of different lengths and challenges. Most fairways are tree-lined, so if you have trouble hitting it straight it will be a long round. BHP can be a good option if the price is right, but it doesn't compare to others in the area - Twisted Dune, Seaview, Baltimore, etc.
Bear Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/03/2017Friendly staff, ok course
We had an enjoyable round on Bear Creek yesterday, but, I have to say I'm a little suspect of the 5 star reviews of this course. The course is ok, but nothing special. Maybe the locals are frustrated by paying the extremely high tee times for the resort courses, so they over-rate courses that are more reasonably priced. The layout of this course is interesting, nut there is very little low-country ambiance. Also, nearly all of the fairways run out about 220 off the tee, so longer hitters will need to keep the driver in the bag on many holes. Pace of play was very good on front 9, but we ran into a foursome who was terribly slow on the back, and there seemed to be no effort to get them to speed up, even though we saw a ranger several times.
Seaview - The Pines Course
Played On 09/07/2015Under-rated course at the shore
Played the Pines course yesterday - the only other time I played this course was about 10 years ago. I had forgotten how good of a layout this is. Overall, it's an excellent course. It doesn't have the stunning views of the Bay course, but a much more interesting layout in my opinion. Most holes are tree-lined, so accuracy is a must. Service was excellent; the starters/cart guys were very helpful. Course conditions have suffered a bit from recent weather (mainly tee boxes) but greens were in excellent condition.
Edgmont Country Club
Played On 08/28/2015Decent option if looking to try something new
Played at Edgemont on a Friday afternoon. Chose this course due to location, and limited other options at the time we wanted to play. I'm glad we did. Overall the course is nice, relatively open layout, but interesting enough. Maintenance was only so-so. Not what you would expect from a private club. Service was non existent. The guy at the pro shop was friendly, but it took forever to get a cart, and no attempt was made to "welcome" us or tell us anything about the course. The course was enjoyable, but I would play Broad Run or Glen Mills over this anyday if they were available.
Lederach Golf Club
Played On 09/19/2014Decent course, a little expensive for what it is.
Have played Lederach at least a dozen times in the past. Had a very enjoyable round there last week very early in the am (6:30 am). Course is in good condition. As others have said, some people hate the course because of the tricky greens, and some other strange design factors. However, I think this is a challenging layout that is enjoyable to play. I'm not a fan of the greens but otherwise I like the course. It would be nice if they would use a ranger to speed up play on the weekends, sometimes it is very slow and there seems to be no attempt to correct.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Saguaro/Tortolita
Played On 03/24/2014Excellent Course with great practice facility
I was concerned about playing Dove Mountain after seeing how tough the course played for the Pros during the Accenture Match Play event. However, I found the course to be very playable. The greens are large and undulating, which puts a lot of pressure on your short game, but fairways are large, and there are generous lay-up areas if you choose the conservative approach. The practice area was excellent - full range, plus a chipping green and separate putting greens. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We played early morning on a Monday and completed the round in 4 hours. No issues with pace of play.
Sewailo Golf Club
Played On 03/21/2014Interesting Layout - very challenging
Played as a Single during trip to Tucson. Very nice course, but too many hazards for my liking. Bunkers everywhere, and even lay-up areas were surrounded by bunkers. Not a very enjoyable round for a mid-high handicap, always hitting out of trouble.
South at Boulders Golf Club & Resort
Played On 11/19/2012Boulders North
Very Nice Course, service was great. Front nine on North was just ok, back nine much more challenging and scenic. Glad I got such a good discount on GN for this round. I would not rank this as a course that I would pay close to $200 to play. Not nearly as nice as some others.
Palmer Course at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge
Played On 11/16/2012Wildfire - Palmer
Beautiful course. Challenging but fair. Course is in beautiful shape, but was playing slow due to overseeding a few days before I played. Great practice facility at Wildfire, including short game area.
