Always drove by this course and thought it was a
short tight resort course. I was surprised that it was forgiving off the tee. Greens and fairways were decent.. I would not pay more than $35 to $40 in off season but it was worth the try.
I would have no problem playing again next time on the island

My 5th day in a row playing Hilton Head courses.
This course is my favorite so far. Very playable even though there has been so much rain lately.
Generous fairways green were good. All staff were pleasant and helpful. Good range with newer balls.
Lunch menu was limited but understandable for time of year. This is a must play course if $50 or less this time of year

I have played the last 5 days in Hilton Head area
Have always drove by and heard good things about this course. I must say I was very disappointed in the experience.
When I arrived at 11 am I was informed that the range was closed. One reason why I booked this course was because of the free range . The course was in poor condition. This is a $35 course max at this time of year if in better condition. On a positive note I had lunch and service and quality of food was good.

Have been to Hilton Head a couple times
First time playing old south
Very charming place
Great food service
Pro shop well stocked
Course was very wet due to previous day rain
Still very playable although cart path only
Greens were not in very good shape very slow because of not being able to cut due to moisture I assume
A lot of Sandy spots on greens
Layout is very interesting
My only dislike was holes 13 to 16 I believe were designed from Blue tees to hit a layup shot of about 200 yards off tee
I don't mind seeing one of these per nine but 4 in a row takes validity of a golf course for me
On positive note there are a couple holes that I would put on my favourite list

Was reluctant to play this course due to the negative reviews about customer service
We find it the total opposite
This was our 5th course in 5 days and found them top 2 in customer service
Very polite at shop asked if it was our first time and gave us a course guide no charge
Very friendly at lunch area and workers on course acknowledged us
The course was OK and we played deer island and red tail the prior 2 days
Hard to stack up against the condition of these courses and there slick greens
However black bear is a decent course a little pricy for what you get but fun to play once

Great course worth the drive
Greens are in excellent condition
Parking lot was dead at 12:30
Pro shop attendant mention that they were trying to get $65 in January
If the parking lot is empty now imagine what it would be like at $65
