About
I had gotten out of the game about 10+ years ago. In that time I had probably only played four or five rounds. A friend of mine from Michigan came for a visit and due to the fact he is an avid golfer and had been unable to play all winter of course he wanted to get in a few rounds while he was here. The first round he continually harped on my "ancient, antique clubs. Hey they were only 25 years old. The next round he convinced me to rent some clubs so I could see the difference in the technology. The rentals were Ping G20's. WOW what a difference. I couldn't believe the difference. I had never hit as well as I did that day. My average drive before that day was about 220. That day I was averaging 260 and even got one to 300. Well needless to say I am hooked on golf again. I went ahead and had myself fitted for clubs. Something I had never done before. I decided to stick with the G20's for my Driver and 3 wood but went with I20's for my 3-SW and then a Cleveland 588 RTX 60* to finish out the bag. I'm averaging 10 strokes less per game than with my old clubs and my enthusiasm for golf has been renewed.

I rarely write bad reviews but I felt I had to this time. First in defense of the course the greens had recently been punched so the greens being bad in that regard couldn't be helped. However the fact that some of the greens actually had large barren spots that actually had created depressions in the greens can be helped. A couple of them were so bad that we joked they should have put up ground under repair stakes. The tee boxes were so chewed up you had a hard time finding a level place to stand. While it is summertime in Arizona and I know things can definitely dry out, having multiple fairways with multiple large areas of grassless barren dirt is unacceptable On the positive side the cart girl was very friendly and the staff when we returned the carts was as well. Bottom line for me is this course is in such terrible shape right now I can't recommend it to anyone at any price. None of the other courses in the area I play at are in anywhere near the poor condition that this one is now.

This was the first time I played the course even though it's the closest one to my house.I'd heard some bad things about the course but decided to give it a try. I'll admit the fairways can use some work but the greens for the most part were in pretty good shape for Arizona summer golf. No one else was on the course and I was able to play in just UNDER 2 hours! While it's not the best course around it's certainly not the worst and at $10 for the greens fee it is definitely worth giving it a try.
Desert Canyon Golf Club
Played On 06/13/2015better than ever
It's been a little over a year since I played this course. I don't know what changed but this course went from good to excellent. Greens, fairways and tee boxes all in great shape. That's hard to do in Arizona in the summer. Staff is very helpful. I can't wait to play there again.
San Vicente Golf Resort

The course was in the best shape I've ever seen it. Fairways were green and lush (for southern California) greens were in great shape and I love the new landscaping going to a more water friendly design.

Beautiful course. As others have said the greens are a little fast but got used to the speed by the third hole. A number of risk reward holes to challenge you.
Las Colinas Golf Club

I had booked the first tee time and was playing as a single and was supposed to be paired up with three others. The other three however showed up with a fourth so the course asked if I would mind going off first by myself. I had no problem with that and with no one in front of me finished my 18 in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Amazing. Course is in really good condition. Greens look a little funky but roll great.
ASU Karsten Golf Course
Played On 09/07/2014Good track
Really nice course with friendly staff. Only complaint was pace of play. Terribly slow group two groups in front of us and ranger drove by them multiple times without saying anything.
Primm Valley Golf Club - Lakes Course
Played On 06/27/2014Really nice course
Got a great GolfNow deal caddy for this course. We were very pleased with the condition and layout of the course and would definitely play it again. Stopped in between rounds for lunch and the food and staff were very friendly.
Talking Stick Golf Club - O'odham Course
Played On 06/02/2014Great course
This course is in great shape and fun to play. The only thing i would say is that the staff in the pro shop could have been a little friendlier. Not rude by any means just not overly friendly either.
Mt. Woodson Golf Club
Played On 05/27/2014Poor condition
Having played this course a number of times I was somewhat surprised at the overall condition of the course. Not sure if they're dealing with water restrictions or what but the course is DRY DRY Dry. It is still playing alright but don't know for how long if they don't start putting some water on it.
Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club
Played On 05/27/2014Great as always
This course is always in immaculate shape. The greens are smooth and beautiful. Take a little extra time looking at your putt though because these don't always break the way you think they should. Great course.
Kokopelli Golf Course
Played On 04/07/2014Course drying out
I play this course a lot. While the fairways were still pretty decent the greens and tee boxes were very dry. A couple of the tee boxes were so dry there was more dirt than grass. I tend to hit a pretty high ball in my approach shots. The greens were so hard I couldn't even find a ball mark to repair on any of the greens I hit. Still not a bad course for the money but I hope they put some water on it soon.
Superstition Springs Golf Club
Played On 03/23/2014GPS needs updating
Course is in pretty good shape but greens could be better. Putts bounced pretty good on a couple holes. Biggest complaint was the on cart GPS. Front nine wasn't bad but the pin placement on the GPS on the back nine was terrible. A number of the holes it is very difficult to gauge the pin placement by eye and we found that on almost all of the holes the GPS was wrong. I wish courses still used different color flags for different pin placements so if their GPS is inaccurate at least you would have something to go by.
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold

Very nice course all in all. Staff was ultra friendly. Only complaint I would have is that the greens were very inconsistent. The 1st green was so fast all of us in the group left putts way short for the next four holes expecting them to all be that fast. other than that the rest of the course is great.
Power Ranch Golf Club
Played On 10/05/2013Very nice place to play
Very nice course. Staff was ultra friendly.Pace of play was very slow but that was due to a foursome two groups in front of us that couldn't keep there shots in the fairway and then would look forever for it. I'm sure the pace is normally better.
Mountain Falls Golf Course

Course is in great condition. It's a bit of a drive from Vegas but it is well worth the drive. Will definately play there again.
Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort
Played On 6/2/2013The course is in terrible shape.
We played this course Sunday morning here. Our first clue that something was wrong should have been the fact that the course wasn't busy on a Sunday morning. The staff was very friendly but no matter how friendly they are it can't make up for the poor condition of this course. A large number of the greens had damage that almost looked like someone had been trying to spin the tires on their car while sitting on the green. If you had to putt across one of these even if your putt had been two feet it would have been impossible to make. A number of the tee boxes were in almost as bad a shape. The fairways were in pretty good shape. It is really a shame the condition of this course because it has some great character and certainly has the potential to be a really nice course. Hopefully someone can get this course back in shape. I know for me it will be a long time, if ever, before I play this course again.
Cave Creek Golf Course

I was very surprised at how good the condition of the course was. Not an overly challenging course but fun nontheless.
Bear Creek Golf Complex - Bear Course
Played On 4/28/2013More challenging than meets the eye
At first look this appears to be a very easy straight forward course. While the fairways are forgiving the thing that surprised me most was the greens. I and everyone else in our group had a lot of difficulty reading the greens. Some putts that looked as they should break 3 or 4 feet barely moved and others that looked like next to no break could have quite a bit. It made for a much more interesting 18 than I originally thought it would be. Every staff member we met were very friendly and helpful. All in all I would recommend this course. Very reasonable cost, great staff and a course that is easy enough for beginners but has enough of a challenge to keep the advanced players attention.
