Decent place to play...

3 9-hole courses. We played on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't crowded so pace of play not an issue. It's definitely not as nice as Downingtown CC (another Jaws course) so could only give this a 3 star. The fairways had nice turf, but were kind of torn up in some areas. No real character on two 9s that we played. A lot of similar and unmemorable holes. Not a bad round, but nothing all that special either though I did enjoy the par 3's. Good variety on distances on those. A couple times we had to wait on random people (not golfers) on the course. Once 2 people on bicycles rode across the fairway after 3 out of the 4 of hit of us our tee shots. Really? How does that even happen?

Short course with nice lay out

A public course less than 25 minutes from Center City and it turned out to be a decent place. It had it's areas of dead grass and patchy fairways, but as the round progressed the conditions improved. Front 9 is mostly in the woods once you cross under the road and the back 9 is pretty open aside from 16-18. The whites played like 5700 yards I believe and only one hole over 500 yards. I was able to use my driver, but longer hitters may have to take a more precise approach. Greens were pretty challenging. Lots of the bunkers were pretty deep and hard to hit out of because the "sand" was hard. Thick rough.

Our two some got stuck behind a five some. It was a Monday afternoon, so I wouldn't expect a ranger and was just upset that they didn't let us play through. Then we saw a seven some later in the round so clearly its the norm at this course to just let groups play together.

Overall, the lay out was fun with some nice holes and it is much better than FDR and similar to Bryne, but much closer to the city. Not the nicest place in the world, but we did enjoy ourselves.

Poor course conditions

Seems like it's time to give my first 1 rating on here. There was little to like about the course and even then the poor conditions negate those pretty quickly. Interesting layout - kind of fun with some hills, short par 4s. Kind of quirky at times. Overall pretty short. The best part are the par 3's especially the Island #3.

The bad: Some of the holes are far away from each other and we got lost a few times. Our cart broke on the first hole and had to get a replacement. Very few fairways...most are just areas with slightly less crab grass. Lots of marshy areas. One "fairway" was just mud. Ended up in bunkers a few times, but no need to rake them after, because they were either dirt, mud, wet or the one had a massive puddle that had plants growing in it. Driving range only had about 6 mats and when we got there people were waiting two deep behind.

The course is in the middle of nowhere so unless you live near it, I wouldn't consider venturing out. It's a farm setting which I guess has some nice views. Staff was friendly too. However, they do not serve alcohol so if you for some reason do play this course, make sure you're aware of this.

Disappointing

I had been wanting to get back here in the summer to give this course a fair shake after playing only my 3rd round ever here on a November afternoon with aerated greens. We still enjoyed ourselves this past weekend, but there were some things that left us disappointed. Firstly, I have played much nicer courses for less than the $75 we paid. Turf on the fairways was nice, but a lot of dead spots took away from the course. Greens were fine, none too difficult to read and rolled pretty true. Beautifully landscaped too. Some holes have cart path only signs and others don't. We got in trouble for being off the path on a hole where there were no signs. Ranger feverishly waved his arms and shouted at us that is was cart path only - then came over and lectured us about what certain markings indicate. Starter never told us anything nor was there a mention on the scorecard. Also no liquor license. We went to the halfway house expecting to split a couple six packs between are foursome for the back 9 and were told that. Kind of a turn off. Nothing real special about the front 9, lots of water on the back which made it fun and challenging. Not a terrible course by any means, but there were a more than a couple things that irked us to only get 3 stars from me.

Very open

Probably won't lose a lot of balls here even if you're a hacker like myself. Very open and if you miss the fairway, easy to find the errant tee shot. Lots of sand and water comes in to play on a couple holes on the back. Really liked the par threes (none all that long and they have hazards in the middle to get to the green). I played in twice in a week with a buddy and didn't pay the full price of greens fees which I hear are expensive. Proper value IMO would be in the $60 range. We rode both times, but there was a plethora of walkers if that's your thing. No complaints about this course.

Club/Valley

I think the real gem here is their lake course, but if playing the club/valley, it felt like it left a little overpriced. But it is Jersey so not surprised at all. Conditions and course were nice throughout and I liked the club a lot more than the valley. The back 9 on valley didn't feel all that exciting, but it had some nice landscaping.

One of the best

This was definitely one of the nicest courses I have ever played and probably the hardest too. Fairway turf was tremendous and the bunkers were soft and always raked. Pace of play was not an issue at all as we played on a Saturday late morning. We were a two some and no tee time behind even got out 15 minutes early. Never had a problem. Lots of narrow tee shots. Couple that with the beer and the back nine got the best of me. Can't speak for the value of a full price round, but for the $25 we spent on group golfer vouchers, it was a great day. The Ambassador is nice, but this course has the feel of something far beyond just "nice."

Pretty Ho-hum course

There wasn't anything terrible about the course, but it was far from special. No real great holes and lots of long par 3s. Starter was extremely nice and pace of play was nothing to complain about either. For $52 though, I just would've liked a little more from this course.

More than a round of golf

This was an experience more than just a round of golf. It was like a journey when all was said and done. Each hole is a different style so it feels like each one is a new round with it's own challenges. My friend bailed on me at the last minute so I ended up playing solo on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The staff was more than understanding given the weather that day. Obviously not crowded and though you'd think the conditions would suffer, absolutely not! The fairways were in great shape still and the sand (which I experienced a lot) was also very playable. Green were being aerated which wouldn't have kept me from playing it but a little mention would've been nice. I got a deal on golf now, but would actually consider paying the $110. It was that nice - on a bad weather day. Can't imagine what it would be like on summer morning.

My gripe which is why I can't give it a 5 star is the lack of signage or yard markings. I saw a few on the cart path, but that was it. And there was no map of each hole either at the tee box or on the scorecard. More than a couple times, I had to drive ahead to find the flag or what was behind a hill. There was a blind water shot on 9 too which I hit a nice shot, only to find that it went in to the water.

It has potential

Like a previous review said, this place has the bones to be a really nice course. The layout was fun and there was definitely some challenge to it, but it is just not up to a 4-star rating yet. Down trees all over the place, bunkers full of weed and grass and dandelions ALL over the place. Made it very hard to find your ball on even good shots. Hard to distinguish fairway from rough as well. That being said, they don't hide the fact the this is what the course is for now and they charge accordingly. Very interested to see where this course goes, because we did have a good time.

A VERY enjoyable round

The course was in pretty nice condition. Greens were very fast considering it had rained and the undulations made for some very difficult putts. Not much in way of hazards. Our foursome had a very fun round and all enjoyed the course very much. When the sun finally came out on the back 9, it really spot lighted the course even more. Some pretty nice views overlooking the valley and I really enjoyed the 11-14 hole complex. Some long near 200 yard par 3s which I am not a huge fan of. Very great price too as it included a free lunch if playing before noon which consisted of a sandwich, chips and a beer. So knock $10 whatever you're paying for the round.

Fun round

Maybe it was because I have heard so much about it and was very hyped to play it, but it was just a little disappointing. Course conditions were great but I was expecting near pristine for a $70+ course. That being said it was still incredibly fun with lots of different variations and some nice scenic views too. The back 9 was definitely more difficult. Hole number 11 was my favorite: raised green after a pretty small landing area to hit the tee shot. We played in the afternoon for $45 and it was absolutely worth it.

Bunker City

Been wanting to play this course for awhile and finally got to play on a Saturday afternoon which was very good value.

Some water hazards, but the main one here is sand...lots and lots of sand. Almost every green is protected by multiple bunkers and even some placed in fairways make for some strategic positioning. Aside from the par 3s which were almost all off a raised tee box, no real memorable holes (except for a long sweeping dog leg par 5 with a stream in the middle). Course conditions were nice and we saw the cart girl plenty. Wasn't crowded at all and would absolutely play again for the $40 in the afternoon as opposed to the more expensive morning. Every staff member we encountered was also very nice.

Fun course

I really enjoyed this course. Felt like we were playing on a farm which fits with the area nicely. Good variety of holes too.

Some of the fairways were overly soft and the ball would hit and just stick. Inconsistent green speeds and water in a lot of the cups too. I am not a pro, so didn't find this to be much of a drawback. Some of the signage as to where the next tee was confusing too.

That being said, it was a perfect October morning for golf and it was a blast to play. Fairly open, some scorable par 5's and a great feel. Where some courses have ropes around the green, Gambler Ridge had little fences which was pretty cool.

We played here merely for necessity as it was good place to meet in the middle, but would make the trip back to play again.

Stayed for lunch at the pub and it was great and very reasonably priced.

Odd Layout

I had played this course once before and it's actually pretty nice, not sure what people want from a golf course. My problem is the layout. Once you get to the island hole (which is very cool by the way), it's like three holes converge onto one. When I played previously, it was a full Saturday afternoon and we had people behind us telling us to hit, but couldn't for fear of getting hit from people hitting in the opposite direction. Pace of play was slow that day.

A buddy of mine and I played 18 elsewhere last Saturday and wanted to do 9 more so being close to the course, we played again. The 9-hole rate is very much overpriced IMO at $30 for 4:00. We played all 9, but felt just a little discount for 1/2 holes was just too much. Found the beer prices to be a little on the high end for a golf course and they didn't offer any specials.

Will probably play again at some point because it is close, but not really missing much if you don't.

Pleasantly Surprised!

Found out about this course and booked a tee time to play three days later. Didn't know much about it other than it was near Krock's Pub where I had been before.

I then looked at the address and noticed it was completely surrounded by houses - one both sides of probably 85% of the fairways. My expectations dropped thinking it would be too narrow. I WAS WRONG!

The course was in excellent shape and the fairways were fine. It was actually pretty neat with all the houses and unlike any other course I've played.

We practically had the entire course to ourselves for a Saturday morning (we went very early) and got an enjoyable round in. No real challenging holes, but good variety. Played very well on front 9, but liked the back 9 better. Two very good par 5s.

Staff was awesome and beer prices were outstanding too. Stopped in at the pub for lunch after too. Great food!

Loved Fox Hollow

This was an awesome course. Not overly nice, but it's a public course and the maintenance was pretty darn good. Quite a few dog legs which can get redundant, but for some reason they worked on this course. The layout and flow of the holes was terrific. The back 9 is completely different from the front. Lots of memorable holes...short par 3s, long par 5s, water, an island hole, it was great!

The pace of play of kind of slow though mostly due to a twosome in front of us that would take forever looking for balls and they were just very lethargic in all aspects of the game. We got held up on nearly every hole. But we finished 18 as it was getting dark so mission accomplished.

$25 on a Saturday afternoon. Great bargain. Would absolutely and probably will play again.

Take the good with the bad

There's a lot to like about this course, but there's also not so great things...

The good: the course is in excellent condition, some bunkers were very hard but you'll find that on lots of public courses. The food at the turn was awesome with a lot to choose from. The alcohol variety was great too and very fairly priced. We also paid $20 for a tee time on a Sunday morning with a voucher they offered which is quite the deal!

The bad: Pace of play - yes it was the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, but 6 hours?!?!? C'mon! We were backed up four deep on some of the back 9 holes. No ranger moving anything along and they stacked tee times which is never good. The starter wasn't much help and was grumpy too. No sense of humor. Sorry we were inconveniencing him by trying to golf. Then actually one thing I forgot until I saw the picture was the most utterly dumbfounded hole I've ever played. It was either 11 or 12, a short par three. The hole has geese all over the place. Not sure what the course could do about it, but it should be something it was nearly unplayable. Then to get to the green if you're riding you must drive through the woods then get around and walk across a bridge that goes up and down and across. It was asinine. I hit mine short of the green on the other side of the water and after leaving my cart, had to take a good two minute walk to my ball. The course also has many holes on top of each other on the front 9, we had to dodge lots of balls, and yell fore quite often, and/or have another ball on our fairway or vice versa.

In conclusion, I don't know that I would play it again and definitely not for full price. It was a challenging course for more reasons than just the lay out. Would recommend for a good deal if played on maybe played on a less crowded day.

A near perfect afternoon on the course

I had played Neshaminy once before and wanted to go back with a foursome to really appreciate it. We arrived early and they said we could go on right away. We were waiting for our friend so we couldn't but still a nice gesture. The lady at the snack bar was extremely nice and they had good selection of beer and snacks.

The course isn't spectacular, but exactly what we were looking for. Front 9 is very open, back 9 was a little more challenging. Greens are large, but far from flat and they were kind of slow which is fine. Some long par 3s.

My only real complaint is the condition of the tee boxes. They were rock hard and not much grass on most of them. It was actually quite difficult to get a tee in of many the holes. That wouldn't deter me from playing again.

The course was pretty near perfect for the price and for a round with three good friends to play and have a couple beers.

A solid 4-stars!

We enjoyed our round very much and while it wasn't anything spectacular it was quite serviceable. Not crowded on a Saturday afternoon, so that's a plus. At the turn, we got some hot dogs which were good. They had a cart girl going around which we saw a couple of times. All the things a good golf course should have.

The front was not nearly as tight as described in some of the posts and while the back 9 does bend around the villas /condos, they don't affect anything. A good array of holes with some elevated greens, short par threes and blind shots.

A little hard to find, but once there the staff picked up our clubs and from the parking lot in a cart and let us on the course before our tee time as a two-some because we were ready and due to tee off after two four-somes.
