Escena Golf Club
Played On 11/03/2017Opening Day After Re-seeding
I booked this round a week before my Palm Springs vacation not knowing that it was the first day open for play after re-seeding. I have never played here before and was pleasantly surprised at the conditions and the layout. The fairways were wide enough to take a rip with your driver, the designs around the greens were interesting and fresh tender young grass was growing everywhere. As long as you kept it in play, you usually had a good lie.
The only negatives were that the greens were slow (which I hear is normal for this time of year after re-seeding) and that the "driving range" was actually a "driving cage" where you hit into a net. It was better than nothing and one of the nicest ones I've used (included in the greens fees).
I thoroughly enjoyed my round and will play here again next time I'm in town.
Mission Hills - Gary Player Course
Played On 04/10/2017Nice Course, but.....
.....an overzealous marshal pushed too hard!
The course was in good shape with wide, forgiving fairways and smooth, fast greens that made for an enjoyable round. The large range and practice area was very nice and so was the starter and club house staff. The only negative part to the whole round was that marshal. Our first encounter with him was on hole #2 where he told us it was "a little crazy up ahead" with 2 twosomes in front of our group of four. Our next encounter was on the #9 where he told us to pick up the pace because there were open holes in front of us. I reminded him that the groups in front of us were twosomes but that we'd do our best. Our next encounter was on #13 where he told us to just take automatic 2 putts on all the greens until we caught up. I told him that we want to putt out on the greens but, again, we will do our best to play quickly. He then stalked us at a distance until #15 where he met us on the tee box and told us to skip a hole. At this point, I'd had enough and firmly reminded him that our group had paid $400.00 to enjoy this round of golf and that we weren't skipping any holes! He didn't know what to say and drove away only to reappear on the #17 tee box with an apology. He said the locals behind us kept calling the clubhouse complaining about our slow play. As it turns out, our round was only 4:15 long which is hardly slow play for a foursome, playing a new course and using three different tee boxes (blue, white, ladies).
Despite this negative marshal encounter, I'd still recommend this course and will play here again the next time I visit Palm Springs.
Valley at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 04/08/2017Nice Course, Slow Greens
Everything about this course was nice except for the slow, freshly sanded greens. I bet in 2-3 weeks, they'll be fine and this course will play even nicer.
Golf Club At Terra Lago - North Course
Played On 02/20/2016Just As Nice As The Last Time I Played It
I played here a year ago, and this time around, the course was equally as nice. Beautifully true rolling but hard greens, lush fairways, nice tee boxes, and a challenging layout. Lots of places to hit a ball out of play but it didn't seem unfair. You just have to hit it where you're aiming. Includes a bucket of balls at a nice driving range in the price of the greens fees. I'll play here again next time I'm in Palm Springs for sure.
The Stadium Course at PGA WEST
Played On 04/11/2014Tough But Fun
I played this this course on the final day of my week long vacation and I'm glad I saved the best for last. Fast greens, lots of deep bunkers on almost every hole, undulating mounds along the sides of every fairway, and tight tee shots on many holes. I enjoyed the beating and am looking forward to playing it again now that I know where not to hit it. Huge driving range and putting/chipping area that was included in the price. I only paid $85 on a hot deal from Golfnow that really made for a good value. If I had to pay full price, I might look elsewhere to get my fix.
Date Palm Country Club
Played On 04/09/2014Just Another Executive Course
Older short course that meanders through what appears to be a fairly nicely kept mobil home retirement community. Lots of big trees and enough water to make for some tight tee shots. The greens were coarse and slow but would hold a well struck shot. The driving range only had about 8-10 stalls from which you hit your balls ($3 small bucket) out into a large sandy drainge canal. It was only OK but not a bad value for the money.
Cimarron Golf Club - Pebble Par-3 Course
Played On 04/08/2014Fun Little Course
An enjoyable course to play for golfers of all levels. The greens, fairways, and bunkers were in great shape. There are almost no trees or water, just rolling hills of grass and hard sandy waste areas when you hit it far off line. The large all grass range ($8 large bucket) was also nice and included a view of jets coming in for a landing in the distance.
The other longer course (Boulder) looked equally as nice with many more people playing it.
Indian Canyons Golf Resort - South Course
Played On 04/06/2014Lush fairways and nice greens
I joined two other singles and we were the first group off at about 7:00 am on Sun. 4-6-14. When I first arrived I was immediately impressed by the quality of the facility and the beautifully maintained landscape. Lush green grass was growing everywhere, even in places where people weren't going to be hitting balls from. The fairways were immaculate and the rough was mowed short enough that you usually had a decent lie that you could work with unless you were behind one of the many palm tree clusters that are scattered throughout the course. There are lots of bunkers and small lakes all over but the landing areas are generous enough to avoid most of the trouble. The greens were a little firm but nice and the two sand traps I hit out of were a little hard and low on sand, but good enough. The all grass driving range was in good shape ($7 small bucket) and all the staff were very friendly. The next time I visit Palm Springs, I'm playing here for sure!
Glad to hear that you came back out this year and played again! We really appreciate repeat golfers like you! Next time you are in the area we hope you will come back! Also, thank you for the wonderful photos!
