Straits Golf Course at Whistling Straits
Played On 08/07/2016Glad we did it but not likely to repeat soon - Thanks "Borat"
Yes its famous, yes its got some truly memorable holes, yes the lake views are special.
But seriously, its $1,000 for a twosome, with caddie and tip.
And IMO links golf in 90 degree direct sun with no trees anywhere is not that appealing.
Caddie (Oscar) was outstanding, though ... definitely assisted our play and made the experience more fun, plus he does an awesome Borat impersonation.
Oh, and btw it is ridiculously hard, especially with 20 MPH wind all day.
Glad I got it off the bucket list, but I think River is the better course.
Irish Course at Whistling Straits
Played On 08/06/2016River Course is much better IMO
IMO, links golf that is not on the ocean/lake in the Midwest when its 90 degrees in the summer just isn't that appealing. This course had few really memorable holes ...not at all unique like the lake views at Whistling Straits. Mostly I find it really boring when there are no trees to frame the hole and provide a little shade and contrast.
Oh, yeah, and $200 greens fees plus cart caddies and everything else is a little excessive.
Skip it and play the River course ...that's my advice.
Wilmette Golf Course

I felt compelled to write this review because the more I play this course, the more I appreciate how nice it is. This Wilmette muni used to be pretty boring, but they did a big renovation a couple years ago and now I think its second only to the Glen for public courses nearby. They elevated most of the greens and many of the tee boxes, so there's a fair amount of contour now. And the greens have some real undulation and tiering. I played North Shore CC recently and was surprised how flat everything looked compared to Wilmette. And I don't enjoy playing Winnetka any more because its so tight and so short you almost never should hit driver. Wilmette has 8 par 4's that are 400+ from the tips ... so you can hit driver a lot, which really sets it apart from some of the other local tracks. Overall, I think its in pretty good shape too.
I paid an annual fee to be a "member" and play any time I want. Excellent deal if you play a lot.
Wild Rock Golf Club - Wild Rock Championship Course
Played On 07/03/2016Outstanding
This is a great course ...reminds me a lot of The Glen ...very hilly terrain, lots of undulation everywhere, great condition, super long and hard from the back tees.
I played the blues and it was like 6,700 yards I think. Pretty fair though. You have to hit driver on most holes but the fairways are pretty wide.
Overall great course at a reasonable price.
