The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 10/19/2023Better to call before booking
First off, I really enjoyed my round at Starr Pass. We were staying on site in the golf suites (which were great), so it was very convenient and our first round in Tucson. The course layout was excellent, very fair and varied from hole to hole. Definitely not cookie cutter. My one criticism of the layout is the tee boxes could use better signage. My son was playing the tips and they were sometimes hard to locate. The course conditions were above average overall, tees and fairways were excellent, but the greens had a fair amount of dead areas and were probably on the low end of all the courses we played. My biggest negative from the round is the course has 27 holes, we booked Rattler/Roadrunner as they were highly recommended. When we checked in, we were told that Roadrunner was closed, our rotation would be Coyote/Rattler and they were both cart path only. I'll never understand why courses who use online booking feel this is okay to pull with their guests without prior warning. I'm in good shape, but for some players this is a deal breaker in 100 degree heat, not to mention, not what we paid for. All that being said clubhouse personnel were all very friendly and helpful. Cart girl made plentiful visits and was also very personable. To sum it all up, nice course that could be a little better maintained, great desert views that make you forgive the conditions a bit, but call and check with the clubhouse for any unusual circumstances before booking.
Gaylord Springs Golf Links
Played On 10/14/2023Links style with lightning greens
My son and I stopped in Nashville during a cross country golf road trip and chose Gaylord Springs as our course of the day. Very cool links style layout with lots of mounding and very undulating greens. Not any easy course to navigate without using a GPS app, especially off the tee. Fairways are all pretty wide and really well maintained with lots of roll when you hit them. It was kind of gusty the day we played, so hitting a lower tee shot was beneficial, not sure if this is the usual. Overall, great course that'll make you want to snap your putter. Pro shop personnel were friendly, but cart kid made no effort to do anything about loading or unloading. I definitely recommend!
Lochmere Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/02/2023Awesome course
I usually play Lochmere a few times a year as it about an hour's drive from my home. It's always worth the trip! The course is very challenging with a great layout. Lot's of memorable holes with great design and nice scenery. The foliage was really close to peak, which made the course even more beautiful. This particular round, the greens were exceptional, probably the fastest I played all summer and I'm a 4-5 day a week player. I gave the course 5 stars across the board, but dinged it one star on staff friendliness. The starter can be a little on the rude side when he's pulling you off the driving range 10 minutes before your actual teetime. The players I was with said he did the same thing to them last time they had played there. I get it if it was wall to wall busy, but that wasn't the case. In the end, it's a small issue that didn't detract from a fantastic day of golf on a great course.
Merrimack Valley Golf Club
Played On 06/14/2023Traps were garbage
I feel bad giving a poor review but the conditions unfortunately warrant it. The course layout is very fun, more par 3's and 5's than usual with a lot of design variety between holes. Water, elevation changes, dog legs, blind shots are all used. The staff was great, very friendly and considerate. The drink cart made frequent rounds and the clubhouse was welcoming. My biggest issue was the traps, they were a disaster, looking like they hadn't been touched at all this season and maybe a good portion of last. I get the fact that we've had a lot of rain, but that's not an excuse for complete neglect. The only other issues was the greens were kind of beat up with unprepared or poorly repaired ball marks. This issue was more understandable due to the wet conditions. To sum things up, I'd still recommend the course, but the traps either need to completely renovated or be marked as ground under repair.
Point Sebago Golf & Beach Resort
Played On 05/15/2023One of my favorites
If you're in the area, don't miss a chance to play a round at Point Sebago. The course was in fantastic shape for so early in the season. Greens and fairways were immaculate. I really appreciate the extremely varied layout, every hole is different and memorable. To top it off, they have the best practice area I've ever seen at a public course. Price can be a little high during peak season, but Golf Now hot deals are worth watching for.
Aurora International Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2023Immaculate but overpriced and forgettable.
It's tough to give a mediocre review to a course that was in such perfect condition, but the entire package warrants it. Pro shop was well stocked and ladies checking you in were friendly. I was renting clubs, which were practically new Taylormade Stealth woods and irons. Really nice range and putting green, also a big chipping and sand practice area. No starter that I saw, I warmed up and headed for the first hole at my own pace. I played alone on a very breezy day and got the impression those were the prevailing conditions due to how flat the island is. Didn't see another group until my last five holes, when the group ahead brought me to a crawl for the home stretch. The course condition was pristine, there were actually workers pulling individual weeds from some of the tees with oversized tweezers. All in all, I saw more workers than other players during the round. Now for the negatives. Unfortunately, the layout was really forgettable. I was told it was redesigned by Greg Norman in 2021, but I can't recall a single hole that was impressive or even picturesque in the least, just blah, which is tough to pull off surrounded by the Caribbean. To compound the issue It's the only course on the island so the price is badly inflated. Unless money is no issue, I'd give it a hard pass and enjoy the beach instead.
Eagle Nest Golf Club
Played On 04/08/2022Pretty mediocre
First course I've played in Myrtle Beach so I don't have a good comparison yet, but I'd rate Eagle Nest pretty mediocre even compared to my home courses. Played in mid April, so the course wasn't in top season form. Seemed like lots of repairs going on to sprinkler system, patchwork areas throughout the fairways to cover up trenching. Greens were really weird, with two types of grass growing at different rates so they were really bumpy. Staff was really friendly and helpful, pro shop was nice with lots of choices to buy logo gear. Snack bar was really basic, no bar to speak of. Driving range was too narrow as well, people were waiting in line for spots to hit. Cheapest round I booked while on this vacation, so maybe I got the value I paid for.

The Dunes At Maui Lani Golf Course
Played On 11/13/2022Awesome Maui muni!
Had a great round. Well maintained track with an interesting layout. Greens were in great condition and rolled really true. Large practice area with a huge putting green. Staff was super helpful and really friendly. Pro shop had a nice selection of logo apparel with reasonable prices. Great alternative to the resort courses at a good price, booked on Golf Now.
Point Sebago Golf & Beach Resort
Played On 05/08/2022Great shape for early season
This was my third round at Point Sebago, and all have been excellent. This visit was in early May, and the course was already in mid season form. Greens were close to perfect and the overall course was fantastic. Kudos to the maintenance team. Staff was really on top of things, from the young ladies who delivered our carts, to the pro shop and starter, all the way to the snack bar lady who served up our end of the round beers. I highly recommend you book a round at Point Sebago if you're in the area, or make it a destination for a longer stay.
Ridgewood Country Club
Played On 10/08/2021Awesome conditions
Got a great Golf Now rate on a gorgeous fall day. The course was in tremendous condition as usual, but maybe a little more lush due to the recent weather. Ridgewood is always fairly picturesque, but the foliage really made it spectacular. The only negative on the day was the greens weren't quite completely recovered from their fall aeration. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, a common theme, every time I've played here. One of the best, if not the best courses in the lakes region.
Point Sebago Golf & Beach Resort
Played On 07/27/2021Beautiful Course
If you're in the area and love golf, be sure to make a trip to Point Sebago. This was my first time returning, after playing there about ten years ago and if anything, it was in better condition now. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The carts are awesome, all are tricked out with state of the art GPS touchscreens. You can even view icons for the carts in front of you for blind holes when you're unsure if you are safe to tee off. The course is very challenging, but can be customized to your skill level anywhere from 7000 to 3200 yards by a wise choice of which tee box to play. The scorecard even had provisions for combinations of teeboxes to really dial in the level you prefer. Course conditions were fantastic, the fairways and greens were some of the best I've played in northern NE. A couple of the par 3 tee boxes were a little worse for wear, but that's really the only negative I can think of during a super round at the course. The icing on the cake was I booked my round as a hot deal on Golf Now
Wentworth Golf Club
Played On 07/24/2021Fun golf in a beautiful setting
I've played the Wentworth Resort many times and it's always consistently well maintained. The staff is invariably friendly and courteous. While the course has many holes that are on the shorter side, it is still fairly challenging due to the small greens. The condition of the greens themselves is historically one of the best in the area. The course clocks in at a par 70, with only one par five per side, but doesn't lack for being a test of your shotmaking ability. The setting is one of the best in all of NH, with great views and the Ellis River curling alongside a few holes.
North Conway Country Club
Played On 09/14/2017Beautiful surrounding and a great course
I couldn't have had a better early fall day. No leaf color yet, but beautiful surroundings none the less. The course was in great shape, meticulously maintained as always. North Conway CC is a great test of your skills, whether you're a beginner or low handicapper. Most holes are tree lined and border each other, with the only out of bounds being the outside perimeter of the property. Very tough to lose balls as long as you keep them in play and avoid the water hazards. The staff is always super friendly and accommodating, with a beverage cart that does a great job of making itself readily accessible. North Conway also has the best driving range and practice area in the north country. To top it all off, the Ledgeview Grille serves up a great apres round meal and affords one of the best views in the valley. The best part of it all, was my round only cost $10 on Golfnow!
