Mixed feelings

Read the mixed reviews so I was nervous about playing here. Worried when we started with no grass on practice green. Actual greens weren’t that bad. Greens kinda slow but few bare spots. Lots of the fairways were in good shape but some in the middle of the round needed work. Rough was mostly weeds. Bunkers were also mixed. Some ok some bad. Got reduced price so not that bad a deal but not going back unless they finish improving the course. Seems like they are trying. Even had a temporary green while working on the actual green on one hole. Very nice layout with water coming into play and some great views.

Great course and a good value

The layout was great with some very pretty holes. Super greens that were smooth and fast. Will be back again next off season.

Old style course in good shape

This was a good course but the layout is not as scenic as others we played. It's pretty flat with some tree lined fairways. The greens were in good shape and the rough was short so the course wasn't too tough. This course was hosting a Champions Tour event two weeks later so it was cool to see the bleachers set up on some of the holes. A few of the holes were memorable, especially the 18th, but there isn't the elevation changes and open vistas that I love about some of the other Tucson courses. I got a really good golfnow price so it was a great value.

Wide open course

This was the last of the eight courses we played on our golf trip from Iowa. It felt wide open compared to some of the courses we played so scoring was much easier even playing the longer pine tees. Greens were very slow but putted smoothly. Kind of a ho-hum course but reasonable price and on the way to the airport in Mesa.

Great layout with wonderful views

I thought this was a great course. The condition of the greens was not the best, especially on the Wild Burro nine. I got a good internet price but don't think the course is worth the full price in prime season.

Beautiful course, fast greens

I played the Mountain course last year and the Canyon course is it's match. The course was in great condition and a great value for the internet price. The greens are hugh and very fast so it's hard not to have 3 putts. There are some fantastic views on some of the holes especially one the par 3s on the back. This is a MUST PLAY for anyone that appreciates a tough layout with great views and fast greens.

Great desert course at a great price

This course exceeded my expectations. It was in great shape and the price was very reasonable even though this was prime season. I definitely will play this one when back in Tucson.

Course is not in very good condition and overpriced

Played the Canada course as one of the courses that we played on our golf trip from Iowa. The condition of the course was not very good, especially in the rough. It was a warm day we played on and there was not much water available on the course and there was no cart girl on the back 9. Bartender/waitress was very friendly and got us rehydrated after the round. Course was not nearly as good as most of the others we played and priced about the same. Recommend playing Vistoso for the same price and it's a much better course.

This is a course every golfer must play

This is my all time favorite. The views are spectacular. Every hole is memorable. Long downhill, downwind holes and short uphill, into the wind holes so the course is playable for decent golfers. I am about a 9 hc and a kinda short hitter but the gold tees at 6600 yards didn't seem that long because of the downhill roll you get. Got a discount on an internet site which made it even better but even for full price this course is worth it. I had played it a couple years ago in the rain but this time the weather was perfect. With the Prince course closed on Kauai there is no public course in Hawaii that comes close to this one.

Slow play and not very memorable course

I got a really good deal on an internet tee time website so I played this course or a greatly reduced rate. It is not worth the full rate. The course was pretty challenging with some of the holes being fairly long and we had a strong breeze and rain on some. There were not any really memorable holes. Number 5 goes by the beach and number 17 is a par 3 over water. Overall it's an ok course that I would play again but not for the normal rate. The pace was also incredibly slow since there was a birthday outing of 40 people in front of us. The ranger said they were all slow and he couldn't do anything. I finished before dark so I was not too upset but there were a lot of people behind me that I'm sure didn't finish. Kapalua courses are MUCH nicer and can get on Bay for about the same rate.

Not Plantation but still a great course

I played both Kapalua courses on this trip and enjoyed both. Plantation is world class but the Bay course is fantastic if you don't compare it to Plantation. Course was in good condition except the greens had been recently aerated and sanded so they were not good. Hole 5 is a par 3 over the ocean that is very scenic. There were a number of other pretty holes. Fairly wide fairways so it was easy to stay out of trouble. Bermuda rough is tough to hit out of. Would definitely play this course when back in Maui.

Call ahead

I ignored the negative reviews and decided I wanted to play this course since I love the experience of playing challenging Hawaii golf courses with great views. I arrived to the expected church crowd since I was playing on a Sunday but found the small pro shop on the side of the complex. The practice area looked like it had not been kept up and the whole facility looked like it had been seriously neglected. The views were all they were cracked up to be but the course looked unkempt. The guy in the pro shop said he had been trying to contact me and that the back 9 was closed and the front 9 was really wet because of all the rain they had. He discouraged me from going out and said everyone that had gone out had come back for a refund. This was really disappointing but I called the online service and got my greens fee refunded. I did stop at the Pali Lookout on my way back to my hotel and saw about a dozen players playing the course. Not sure why I was pushed so hard not to play since I got a very good discount and willing to try the course. This is the only time I was really discouraged from playing by a course but it did look like it was not being maintained so maybe it was for the best. This course should either get it's act together or close.

Nice course with good views

This is a good course with lots of elevation changes and a good layout. There were issues with some of the fairways but not that big a deal as in some of the reviews. I only remember some of the holes with major issues. I think lots of the replaced grass was already growing in ok. Greens were in good shape and I would play this one again.

Fantastic views and course is in perfect shape

This course was in the best shape of any we played on our golf trip this year and we played other courses in this price range. The views are spectacular. The fairways are wide so the course wasn't as hard as the starter made it out to be. There are no total distances on the scorecard but they say what handicap should play which tees. This is flawed logic to me since I prefer to use total distance to pick tees. Blue tees are 5900 yds for a par 70 course. Ask starter for distances. Lots of memorable holes and would play this course any time even if it is a bit of a drive.

Beautiful course down and then back up a canyon

This is the third time playing this course on my annual Phoenix trip. It again was in great shape and I love the views of the canyon. There are a number of memorable holes and the par 3's are great, especially #17 over the canyon. The only negative is that some of the greens seemed to lack a little grass so the ball would not slow down at all going downhill. This should be on your list to play and it's definitely not overpriced if you get an internet deal.

Course is in terrible shape

Read bad reviews but guys in my group for our golf trip had played it before and said it was a good course. Seems like they let the course go and it's in really bad shape. Grass looks awful and they are replacing fairways in places bat problem seems out of control. I have heard it was a good layout but it was very plain and I don't remember any memorable holes. Not crowded at all (may have something to do with conditions) and got a very discounted price so we weren't too upset but would never return.

Nice condition but crowded

This is a pretty good course located in town. Not great views because of this. Wide fairways but deep fairway bunkers that need to be avoided to score. Course was full in front of us but we finished right as it got dark with a 1:32 tee time. Almost 5 hr round. Course conditions were great with grass in great shape everywhere.

Nice course but treated rudely

This is very much a desert course with lots of trouble to get into. The white tees are only 5588 yards (par 71) but still can be difficult. Better hit it straight on a number of holes or you are dropping another. Course is very scenic and was in good shape. Not much of a practice putting green (too small so very crowded) and practice chipping green wasn't cut. Now for my story. There
wasn't a starter which was not that big a deal. I found the other 3 some for my single tee time ok and we went off after a shotgun start for a league. We played behind a group which played quick on the front (2 hrs) but started to slow down on the back but not too bad. My group is leaving the 15th green after waiting some for the group in front for a couple holes. One young worker comes driving up in a cart at a very high speed and cuts in front of us on the 16th tee. He says we are tying up the course and there is a backup of 5 groups behind us. He is very abrasive and we tell him we have been waiting for the group in front and they are still right in front of us. After he calms down and sees that it's not us he offers a quick apology and drives off. What is even worse it's obvious that he says nothing to the group in front since they show down even more. We wait on the next two holes for a good 10 minutes each for them to clear the green. Seems to me the course was fine getting on the visitors to speed up but when it turned out it was the locals that were slow they didn't want to say anything. I am not on to complain about rangers since I hate slow play but obviously a ranger needs to work backwards and find the openings not listen to players complaining about a group ahead that may not be the problem. Not sure I would return even though it was a nice course. Had 12:50 tee time and just got done before dark because of the slow back nine.

Very scenic course

Played the Mountain course and the scenery was fantastic. Nice layout and pace of play was great. Greens were tough to read so lots of 3 putts and the grass on the greens seemed kind of grainy but in great shape. Get a good deal on golfnow and go play this course.

Great back 9

This is a reasonably priced option so this was a good choice for my golf trip to Tucson. The back 9 is around and through a large quarry with lots of elevation change. I agree with reviews that the greens need work but for not having enough grass on them they still rolled pretty true. Pros are price and scenic back 9 and minus is the condition of the greens. Would definitely recommend playing. Since we were first off in the morning our pace of play was vey fast.
