Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
Played On 11/18/2015great value
This was my first time at Red Mountain Ranch. The first thing you think of is that its a Pete Dye course and must be really hard and intimitading. Not the case. Like any golf course, keep the ball in play and you score well. Red Mountain Ranch is challenging yet fair, the scenery is great and at under $50 its one of the best deals around. I will return for sure at that price! After playing the course a few times Im sure the scores will go down.
Mountain Brook Golf Club
Played On 11/11/2015good shorter course
Played Mountain Brook for ther first time and was impressed with the facility. Had a tee time for 12:52pm and gave myself planty of time for a warm up. The starter got us out earlier than planned. The pace was fine at the start but we waited on every hole on the back nine. Played from the white tees which are arounf 6000 yards. The back are 6600 which are a little long for me. I would love to see a Hybrid tee for males at about 6300!
The course has some very nice holes. a great course for walking with only a few holes having big distance from the green to the next tee. It is a great value for the money when it comes to PHX golf in the winter months.
Preserve Golf Course
Played On 03/14/2015one word, awesome!
Played the Preserve for the first time on March 14/15. The wind was up a bit so it added to the challange of this spectcular course.I have played several high-end courses in the Tucson area but this is by far the most beautiful and the best bang for the buck. The course is in excellent shape, great greens and fairways. The bunkers could be a little better but I wont complain at $54.00. I will make this a "must do" course when I have friends here for a visit. Well worth the hour drive to get there.
Club West Golf Club
Played On 02/27/2015not bad but could be better
Played with my wife and we were paired up with another couple and enjoyed each others company. The course is a nice layout with mot holes being straight forward. A couple of par 5's were tricky as to shot placement and you need to play the course more than once to know where to hit to. Greens were lacking some grass and were a little beat up in places. We paid $75 for the round and would not go back at that price unless the conditions improved. The bunkers need work and were inconsistent as far as the amount of sand in them. Like I said, it could be better!
Ironwood Country Club
Played On 02/22/2015great short course
Played Ironwood for the first time and was very impressed. The course was in great shape with very good greens. The bunkers, fairways and tee boxes were all very good. We managed to get out on the course early and had the place to ourselves. This is a great course for couples or for someone who does not to be punished all day long but its no pushover either.
I will return for sure. Its a bit of a little gem!
Kokopelli Golf Course
Played On 01/28/2015needs work and new carts
Sadly Kokopelli is one of those courses that could be a real gem but has deteriorated due to a lack of maintainence. There can't be a shortage of money because the place was packed. There were several holes that were 'cart path only' for no apparent reason.
The power carts are a disgrace and shouldn't be allowed out of the cart barn. The greens were in fairly good shape but the fairways are spotty in some spots.
The course has some interesting holes that can challange any golfer. I found myself thinking more about what a great course it could be than what it is. Too bad.
Poston Butte Golf Club
Played On 01/11/2015always very good
Poston Butte is always a pleasure to play. The course is in very good condition. The greens had that crispy kind of look to them but they played very true and fast. The staff are always very helpful, there is a very good practice facility and they make you feel welcome. Got a Hot Deal for $44 which is a steal. Love playing this course. Wide open but more of a challange than it appears. The 17th hole is always fun.
The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 12/06/2014seemed like a long day
Played the Legacy for the first time December 6/14 and was impressed with the over all condition. They offer a huge practice area and a well stocked pro shop. We teed off around noon and when we asked the started how fast groups were making the turn he had no idea. We waited on every hole for the entire round and it ended up being a 4:45 round which is unacceptable in my opinion. We spoke to the marshall once and he was not concerned with the pace of play. Too bad as it is a well manicured course with some very good holes. I would think twice about returning.
McDowell Mountain Golf Club
Played On 12/05/2014good course
Had not played McDowell Mountain in about 8 years so thought we would go back to see the changes. It is a nice course if you can blank out the power lines that run through the property. The course was in good shape and the greens were a good speed. The staff is friendly and the pace was good. Got a deal on GolfNow for &70.00 but would not pay the club rate at $129.00.
TPC Scottsdale - The Champions Course
Played On 02/27/2014a bit disappointing
I must say that the staff at this course are excellent from the time you arrive until you are leaving. That being said I was disappointed in the condition of the course. The tee boxes were very good and most fairways were fine with the add patchy spot. The greens are TERRIBLE. They are half dead with lots of bare spots and very bumpy. I didnt expect this at a TPC facility. In the last week I have played several higher-end courses around Phoenix and these were the WORST greens we had encountered. The resident rate of $87 is good value but if I had to pay the $149.00 regular rate I would have been very upset. Golfers expect more from a TPC course. I attended the Phoenix Open at the sister course and they did not have greens like that to play on!
Mission Royale Golf Club
Played On 01/31/2014interesting course
Played Mission Royale for the first time on January 31. It was a fairly windy day and the course was playing much longer than the score card yardage. Fairly flat , wide open course with tricky greens. Some pins were almost impossible to get to. The course is in fairly good shape with some patchiness on the fairway. The greens were in very good shape and can be very hard if you are not on the right level. I would like to play it on a calm day. This course can be had without any wind.
Robson Ranch Golf Club
Played On 01/09/2014good deal for the price
This course is very flat with lots of grass. No forced carries over waste areas like some desert courses. Greens were in very good shape and the pace was good. Paid $26.00 on GolfNow so its a no-brainer at that price in peak season. If you live in the south PHX area or the lower East Valley it is worth the drive. My only complaint is the starter must have been a funeral Director as he's not a very welcoming kind of guy but I guess you can live with that.
Arizona Golf Resort
Played On 12/07/2013getting better
I have played Arizona Golf Resort several times over the past few years and have noticed the course is now in better shape than my previous visits. The greens were very good, the pace of play was also very good. Its a great course if you like to walk and has challenging par 3's. The day we played there was a frost delay but the staff got us out with only a minor delay and we were able to finish our round. Great deal at $21.00!
The Golf Club at Lora Bay
Played On 8/06/2013beautiful views of the water
Played Lora Bay September 6/13. Had played there several years ago when the course first opened. It has matured very nicely. The course was in great shape. The greens are very tricky to read. Putts that look like they should break stay fairly straight. The bunkers are deep with fescue grass bordering them. Stay away from them at all cost or its a short shot out to get back in play. Booked it on GolfNow for $45.00. Regular fee on Friday was $135.00 so that was a great deal!
Toka Sticks Golf Club
Played On 2/10/2013great value and great greens
Played Toka Sticks for the first time on February 10/13. Its basic golf. The course is flat and is beside an airport so it gets a bit noisy at times. I payed under $45.00 so its a great deal for the time of year. The greens are some of the best I have played on and I was very surprised by the speed and condition. The staff are very good. I will play it again for sure.
Foothills Golf Club
Played On 1/10/2013could be nice but needs work
Its a shame that what could be a very nice golf course is in such poor condition. The fairways are in terrible shape and appear to have been neglected. It is a very nice design and I am sure the course designers would rather not have their names associated with this course now that it is in such bad shape!
