Mountain Vista Golf Club - Santa Rosa Course
Played On 09/08/2018Great condition and no bad lies!
Beautiful and playable in the heat. I played the Gold Tees and found my first-time through very fair and enjoyable.
Chula Vista Golf Course
Played On 04/27/2018Great golf but not ever in good shape
Chula Vista Muni is a real test of your skill as a golfer. If you need perfect conditions go elsewhere but if you're ready to accept golf in it's natural and imperfect form, CV will give you your money's worth. Normally, the greens are good but there are huge areas in several of the fairways of dirt and zero grass. It's too expensive to maintain the course properly but the staff does a pretty fair job. The layout is one of the best in the county and most holes have OBs and Laterals on each fairway. You have to think and execute well or you're toast. But, the 19th hole is very nice oasis to recount the battle and plan a return. It's a Par 73 course that challenges you to play well and punishes you when you don't. But, a good score is justifiably celebrated.
Cottonwood Golf Club - Ivanhoe Course
Played On 09/15/2017What an improvement!
The off-course facilities have been pared back but the course itself was markedly improved from what we've come to expect at Ivanhoe over the last few years. The fairways were healthy and the greens ran smooth and lush. The layout has always been excellent but a lack of maintenance and even simply watering had let the course deteriorate. Maybe, the closure of Lakes has allowed the staff to concentrate on Ivanhoe but whatever the reason, you can see the improvements and on-going repairs/maintenance paying off. Gee, this review looks like I work there but I'm just an local old-timer who has played Cottonwood/RSD since the 80's and seen it up and down. I play a lot of different courses but Ivanhoe is definitely back in the rotation!
Cottonwood Golf Club - Ivanhoe Course
Played On 05/22/2017Price does not include cart
One month ago Cottonwood stopped including the cart with Golf Now. So, instead of $21 it ended up $33.49 with all fees. Course is not worth that much in its current condition. Both courses are great layouts and I'll plan on walking next time.
Salt Creek Golf Club
Played On 02/13/2017Great course - bunkers need work
I love Salt Creek but some of the bunkers (left green side trap on #1 and a few others) are just drainage ditches. The other bunkers are playable, if inconsistent. That said, it's has wonderful design and is a classic risk/reward course. Best all-around value in San Diego county.
Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 09/10/2015Carlton Oaks
One of the best layouts and challenging courses in San Diego! The facilities and staff are always top notch and the greens are smooth rolling. The greens could be a little faster but given the heat and play, probably as good as possible. Fun round!!
Eagle Crest Golf Club
Played On 6/12/2013Great greens and layout
I always enjoy Eagle Crest because it is tight, fair, and in good condition. You can score if you're on and be destroyed when you're not. A real golfer asks for nothing more or less.
