Beautiful, but slow

The course is beautifully laid out and landscaped, with nice mountain views. It is also challenging, with lots of sand and water in play. However, it was nearly a 5 hour round. A local resident told us that five hours is common and that a slow round is considered to be five and a half hours! A Marshall told us the problem was a group 4 or five holes ahead of us. If he knew the ourse of the backup, why didn't he do something about it?! We decided we would scratch this course off our list, reluctantly, since it is otherwise a nice course.

Impossible rough

The course must have just opened after reseeding. It was "cart path only" (which in itself is not a problem), and the rough was thick and 6 to 8 inches high in some areas. A ball that was only a foot or two off the fairway was often impossible to find. My friend lost 5 balls that we could not find, even though we saw where they landed. The greens were in good condition, though slow. To be fair, the guy in the pro shop warned us and offered to book us at a later time on the Pete Dye course. If we had known just how bad the rough was, we would have taken the offer. I have never played on a course where the rough was so impossible, indeed unfair. And I have played on a lot of difficult courses, including in Scotland. This course should not have opened until mowing had been done! It is surprising that a Troon managed course would be open under such poor conditions. I will not play there again, as there are many better options in Palm Springs.

Dear wjashby,

I wanted to thank you for playing our golf course. I also want to apologize that your experience did not meet expectations.

As we did have a miscue on the rough, we are in the process of getting the length back to normal. I can assure you that the rough length is not a normal occurrence for our facility, and we will correct this issue in the future.

If you have time, I can be contacted at wfoust@troongolf.com to discuss further.

Thank you and have a great day,

Good choice

This course compares favorably to other high-end courses in the area (Desert Willow, Indian Wells Resort. I liked it a lot. I will definitely play it again .

Beautiful resort course

This is a beautiful resort course that was in pristine condition. I played in mid-September, so it was not crowded and pace of play was good. The course is quite challenging, because of the thick Bermuda on the fairways (which I was not used to), and all the water. It would not be worth the current price of $140, but in September it was an excellent value.
