A great track truly neglected

It's hard for me to be overly critical here given they've probably been operating on a skeleton crew. So I guess that I shouldn't expect everything to be immaculate. Having said that, there was many glaring things wrong. The North course is in just abysmal shape. Lots of burnt out spots on the greens. Literal indentations in the green the size of a coffee can. Spurge and weeds taking over in many areas. Grass growing in bunkers.

The course looked like you'd expect a municipal course out here to look in the middle of August after months of triple digit heat.

Having said that, I was able to play golf and that is a blessing. The little staff that I saw was exceptionally friendly and inviting. The pace was incredible. I was able to tee off @ 6:20 solo and completed my round in a hair over two hours. I only had to bypass one foursome that conveniently tee'd off on 10 right as I was finishing #9.

No range for now, which is apparently standard for public courses during these times of Covid. Hoping once things come back the normal, they can show the course some love. I'd love to play it when the greens and fairways are actually green.

Jack always gives you something to think about

As a non-member resident of PGA West I love to seize the opportunity to play any of the courses when they are priced reasonably. Today I was able to score a fantastic price for a 12:54 tee time. The service from clubhouse to cart barn was exceptional. Smiles and warm greetings abound. The starter/Marshall as well as the cart barn guy were pleasant and friendly. Never once did I feel rushed or unwelcomed. Ended up playing the Championship tees as a single. Pretty much had the course to myself so it was just about as pleasant and tranquil as it gets.

To be honest, this was the worst condition I've seen the course in. That's not to say it was unplayable, but there was a LOT of dead patches in the fairways as well as around almost every green. Paid the price on a few errant tee shots missing fairways. The rough is beyond thick, extremely inconsistent, and made it exceedingly difficult to find a ball that was only a few yards offline. This was surprising as the other courses are in nowhere near the disrepair that the Nicklaus Tournament was in.

Pace of play was incredible, as the course was completely empty. Saw the beverage girl multiple times throughout my round, and water jugs were full and icy. I look forward to playing here again, as many times as possible. Despite the patchy conditions, I know the course will recover and be as beautiful as we come to expect from a PGA West track. It was all worth it, as I received some of the best service from the staff that I have ever received here...and I've played many a round between Nicklaus/Norman.

It's hard not to have a great time at Norman

Was able to score a fantastic price on a later tee time for two. Little did I know, the course would be closing the following day for maintenance. Well guess what? It mattered not. The course was still absolutely immaculate. Fairways were lush, with hardly a divot to be seen. Greens were FAST and extremely consistent throughout all 18 holes. What a relief that was! Bunkers were still soft, with the exception of a few that are inevitably going to get wet.

Check in was an absolute breeze, and we were in no need of water as there was plenty to be had gratis. The driving range was in poor condition, but I'll attribute that to it being the end of the season. Regardless, having a range is priceless. I loathe going to courses without a range, as I need a nice warm up session to make the first few holes painless!

I love this course, it is my favorite public course in the valley. It emanates tranquility and pushes you to make the right shot. It can be punishing, and believe me...the desert shrubs -love- to swallow you ball up. Either way, this place is my local slice of heaven.

A flat lie is a hot commodity here

Snagged a 3:30 PM Friday afternoon tee-time for the Valley Course. Parking lot was packed, and had to walk quite some distance with my clubs to the pro shop. Check in was a breeze, and the gentleman in the pro shop was very friendly. The cart attendant seemed to be having a bad day and was undeserving of a tip to say the least.

Overall, the course was in good condition with very few dead spots in the fairway. Most bunkers were rock hard, though some were playable. The practice range was also closed, so my first few holes were quite colorful as I warmed up. I'm sure that water feature enjoys dining on Pro V1's.

A few things I truly dislike about this course. It is APTLY named the Valley Course. Constant ups and downs, and -very- few flat lies to hit from. I don't mind the occasional challenge, but when even good drives are punished by terribly uneven terrain and blind shots, it can be aggravating to say the least. Secondly, far too many tee boxes parallel to busy side streets. I don't mind playing through houses, it's the Coachella Valley. Public Streets greatly detract from the beauty of a course, as well as your focus.

The cart girl was extremely friendly, and I saw her 3 times during my quick 18 holes. Unfortunately, the starter stand was closed and I was unable to purchase any beverages before heading out for my round. Next time I'll be sure to have some Powerade in my bag.

All in all, I am -much- more partial to the Palms Course. There are a couple visually beautiful holes here, but I don't intend on playing the Valley Course again.

Another Local Favorite!

Played the South Course for my first time, the day before they began their overseeding. Course was still in excellent shape, with the majority of the fairways still quite green. A few dead spots, but again...reseeding tomorrow! Greens were in wonderful condition, and rolled extremely true. I still dream of a day where other golfers would repair their pitch marks.

Pace of play was wonderful, and a kind couple was courteous enough to allow me to play through as a solo.I was able to finish my round in 2:15. The Clubhouse staff was extremely friendly upon check-in. No poor treatment... as can be prevalent because of a GolfNow booking. Some places turn their noses up at you...definitely not the case here.

I will absolutely be back to enjoy the course in it's glory once the overseed has been completed. Thank you for the wonderful afternoon!

Outstanding Summer conditions, will definitely return!

Was able to snag a solo tee time at 7:37 AM, and boy was it a treat. Course was in wonderful condition considering the heat we've had here in the valley recently. Greens were somewhat inconsistent in speed, but in great overall shape.

Staff was absurdly friendly, which makes everything that much better. Once the foursome ahead of me graciously allowed me to play though, I was able to maintain a pretty solid pace, waiting only on a few holes for no more than 2-3 minutes. Finished in just over 3 hours, which is decent considering I still had a few folks ahead of me.

All in all, a great value!

My first time, and DEFINITELY not my last

Scored a great deal for a Noon tee time at the Palms Course. The weather was heavenly for the beginning of May, just a slight breeze. Fairways were immaculate, bunkers were mostly soft and fluffy...though a few were stupidly compacted and rock hard. Greens rolled rather well, but they need to do a better job at replacing the pin locations from previous days.

Staff was friendly, but not overly so. The gentleman who cleaned my clubs afterwards was the most pleasant person on hand. Very little interaction with the staff, which is not a bad thing. I'm never a fan of dropping my clubs unattended though, it'd be nice to see someone standing out front by the bag drop.

Pace was excellent once the foursome ahead of us let my partner and I play through. We finished in 3:15. Had it not been for the overly slow group ahead of us at the start, we'd have been done in under 3 hours easily.

An excellent value for a beautiful course!
