Worried

Always enjoyed this course. Expected excellent conditions, not so much. Need better clientele, so many obvious ball marks not repaired. I repaired at least 5 per green. Bunkers need lots of work. Greens were ok but only 75 % healed. Rough was a lot of dirt. Fairways were pretty good. Leaves were so rampant that finding balls were very difficult. A few times I found others but not mine. Time of year is tough for this. Couldn’t solicit bar this time, usually good. Friendly pro. I hope this is not the downhill slide of this course. It is a very nice design but has seen better days. So isolated makes it tougher play.

Need some tweaks

I had not played here for about a year. Staff good and friendly. Range was in decent shape. Good putting and chipping area. Pace of play was slow, 4:30 round. Grass coming in nicely on fairways and greens were almost healed from aeration. Greens were hard and reasonably fast. Bunkers need some attention and golfers need to fix their ballmarks as there were obvious unrepaired craters on many of the greens. Hole #5 is unfair, one of my friends who plays from forward tees hit a nice straight drive just right of the left bunker and his ball ended up about 10 ft into the right woods, completely poor. Hole #2, the tees listed at 400 yds was back at 438 yds with the burgundy tees. This was the case a few times as well as # 15 par 3. The blue tees were positioned behind the burgundy tees at 238 yds while the burgundy was at 226 yds. Card lists the blues at 193 yds. This hole is uphill to a raised green with miss areas right and left down the hill 30 ft. It’s tough enough at 193. Some attention to detail and work needed but still a very good course. It is not where it was when I first played it many years ago but it is much better than the ruin the Traditions Club did to it. Beverage cart came by once and though I mentioned a desire to purchase further refreshments on her next go round, she did not indicate that we would not see her again at all on the back nine.

Wow greens

Greens were smooth, fast and hard. Pin placements were pro Sunday. Bunkers were raked but not much depth of sand in them. Pace of play was a bit slow, no rangers. Almost 5 hrs. Practice area in great shape though $12 for a large bucket is a bit steep. Recent aeration did not seem to soften greens and they were a challenge being hard at that speed. Great condition and fun. Kiskiack is a great fair course that is well kept and well worth playing. We did not have time to stop in to the bar but it is well worth it for the bartender and food.

Doglegs

Interesting course. Decent driving range yet for no obvious reason we were on the mats. Starter was a bit rude, though I think she thought she was funny. Pretty course, almost every hole was a dogleg. Course map was unhelpful and confusing and with so many tree lined doglegs, it was hard club selection to get straight shot into the holes. The course was dry yet quite a few holes were cart path only which made for slower play and irritation. Bunkers need some work , greens were well kept. Not much amenities for after.

Very nice track

Dogwood Trace is a gem. Always well kept. Staff is great. Good practice facility. Pace of play was good. Water was provided throughout course and ice and water at the pro shop for you start, turn and finish. My usual complaint, people are not fixing their ball-marks and many were hard to miss craters. Greens were nice but a bit furry and slow. Fairways were also a bit long and rough had a lot of areas that were pretty deep and the ball would disappear. Dogwood Trace is well worth playing and though we didn't stop in this time, the restaurant/bar is nice after round

Rock hard greens, long grass

The Highlands is a great course and well worth playing but has lost some playability since the greens were redone. They are smooth, fast, rarely show ball marks and roll well but they are hard to hold and with the fairway grass so long and thicker rough even wedges from the fairway take yards to stop. A challenge is great but it really takes away from the course when shots become too difficult. The course was CPO though it did not seem necessary. Could have been 90 deg and avoid wet areas. I still don’t understand why some courses don’t allow golfers to go 90 deg in rough only. It would make it easier on the golfers and speed up the pace. There were some issues with green speed inconsistency but they were minor. I hope the Highlands can get the greens just a little softer and playable without sacrificing them to ballmarks that plague so many other courses. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of water on the course and was told “ we don’t do that anymore.” Great course and very nice bar/restaurant to enjoy after round refreshments.

Deluge on the 9th

Good practice facility though chipping green aerated and sanded. Range balls are pricey. Played Blue Heron. We had not played this 18 for awhile. Excellent condition except golfers still not fixing their ballmarks. 4some ahead of us were very slow. We were caught by another 2some around the 7th hole. Rumblings all around us caught us at 9th. Finished the par 5 and sheltered between 9 and 10 to wait it out. Over an hour later still raining. Called the course to see if course would be closed and they said we could play. Surprised at that since it was pretty much unplayable fairways and greens. 25 min ride back to clubhouse, two great young men took care of our clubs and we headed out. It was still raining when we left. Would usually go into restaurant/bar but had other plans. 9 hole rain check

Hot and slow

Great layout, greens a little bumpy. Fairways mostly good though thin on a couple. Practice grass excellent
Bunkers need attention, greens need people to fix ball marks. Over 4.5 hr round on a Friday not good. Marshal needed to keep up the pace. Beverage cart made things better. Water given before round was cool. Always a great course to play

Coming in nicely

Great course layout, fairways filling in and greens almost healed from aeration. Greens were pretty fast and rolled well. Bunkers need some attention with inconsistent sand. Very good practice facility. Restaurant had a sign that said temporarily closed, not sure why. Course should be in great condition soon weather permitting.

Great course but a few issues

One of my favorite courses. Great Strantz course brought back from the dead. Fairways coming around, bunkers need a bit of attention. Greens were a bit slow compared to last time I played. I am a bit worried about some very invasive weeds getting into the greens, especially par 3 15th. They need to be taken care of soon. Range was closed and those in clubhouse didn’t know why. I would hate to see RNK go back in conditions when the folks there did such a wonderful job bringing it back. Didn’t have time for the pub this time but it has been good in the past.

Aerification, very poor drainage/maintenance

No aerification alert from TeeOff, back nine closed for aerification, driving range closed, 2 holes CPO due to rain over a week ago. Course was charging less than “Hot Deal.” Playing the front nine twice. Greens were rolling well and would be decent if anyone would fix their ball marks. Bunkers were poor and untouched. Fairways were ok with some base. 2 groups on Tee box when we turned back to front nine. 25 min wait and 4 groups waiting by the time we teed off on our 2nd nine, really poorly done with no structure. Providence continues to disappoint. Potential only

Always fun

1st surprise was how busy Hobbs was on Tuesday. Range was on the very good mats but hopefully soon back on grass. Practice green in great shape. 1,2 and 3 were CPO as they had a few wet areas. Fairways were surprisingly thin as was some of the light rough around greens. Bunkers need some work, most were unraked which made them inconsistent and much tougher to control shots. Greens were rolling well, fast but not overly speedy. The splotchy colors made a bit more difficult to read but still rolled well. Somewhat slow as the round was over 4 hrs. We stopped in after for the great food and drink and the wonderful folk who work there. With some grass growth and bunker attention, Hobbs will be back to its normal excellent self.

Rough weather spell

Tough time for golf courses. Viniterra is a great course and well worth playing. This day, I was happy the range was open to warm up. The course was still a bit soggy, cart path only. I wish more courses would adopt “riding the rough” when able instead of CPO. It would make courses more friendly to those who don’t or can’t play when it’s CPO and speed up play. There was still a surprising amount of snow on banks and in sand traps. Some of the bunkers were still frozen. None of this is a hit on the course nor manageable. The course was playing extra long and I should have moved up a tee. Greens were in pretty good shape and rolling at a good pace. Kitchen was closed but it was Tuesday in late January so… weather is not being kind to courses now but Viniterra is always worth playing

Not great condition

I have playing here since it was a young 9 hole track. 2nd 9 holes were a great addition to the quite difficult but fun original. Disappointed in the large increase in price over the past few years but with the amazing increase in the development there, I can see the ability to do so. Also the winter CPO rule kept my group away. As for our round, I called to inquire about aeration and was told the greens were almost back to perfect. Not even close, the practice green was slow and bumpy and the course greens were a little faster but very bumpy. Bunkers were not in good shape. Fairways were starting to come in but still thin. The practice area is nice but they need to move the ropes for driving range more often as the area had little grass left. The clubhouse and bar/grill is very nice and snack bar at #10 well placed and easy. Potential to get back to being a great course is there but conditions not great now. Couple good weeks for greens, longer for fairways and bunkers need a lot of work.

very good but work to be done.

I really enjoy playing Lake Chesdin. Challenging but fair shots, elevation changes, sloping greens, varying rough. Pace was a bit slow on this day, with the round taking about 4:20. Greens are improving though a few were a bit rough. I harp constantly about how many ball marks remain unfixed on most golf courses and this was no different. I fixed an average of 3 marks on every green, many of those being deep and obvious. If you want to keep greens nice, fix your ball marks. I can see why so many course are going to the new grass that doesn't show ball marks. Bunkers are being worked on and need a lot more. Great practice facility and great course. Well worth the drive.

Great course, work to be done

Wonderful course, elevation changes. Doglegs in both directions. Varying difficulties in holes. Great layout, practice facility and fun to play. Not easy by any means but fair: bunkers definitely need work, need more sand in most cases or dug out to give a small base. Saw many bunkers with no rakes and a few with several. Still have a lot of unrepaired ball marks on the greens which is too bad since these green are normally very nice except for craters caused by ball marks. Recent aeration, small hole, was close to healed but not quite but greens still rolling well. If you haven’t played here, you should. Beautiful course. Went in for after round adult beverage, very friendly golfers and bartender Bailey was great.

Slow and no reason for CPO

No reason for greens to be so furry and slow, could’ve been cut lower, not wet and no chance of burnout. Great job of drainage since I last played here. That being said, cart path only was very unnecessary with almost no wet areas on the fairways, 90 deg and avoid the few wet areas. Decent course, 3 nines, played Lake to Cottage. Harder than they look especially with 20 mph winds. Blue tees rank short but don’t play that way with 500+ yd par 5s and the shortest par 3 at 170yds, 2 at 185 and one over 200. Restaurant/bar always was good, did not stop in this time. Range was closed. Lot of good work but…

very good but work to be done.

Let's start with the greens, fast smooth, hard and challenging. Golfers are still not fixing their ballmarks which is too bad. Bunkers are in awful shape, no rakes in bunkers or on carts. Time for rakes to come back. No beverage cart nor any water on the course. Many other courses have water on course and rakes by the bunkers. Time to get back to normal. Course overall was in good shape. A few bare areas and surprisingly a few wet areas. Fairways were nice, practice area was great. Greens were the fastest I have seen there in years. Well worth playing.

Always a pleasure

Hobbs Hole continues to be a wonderful golf course. Greens were in great shape. I would have liked them a bit faster but they were very nice. Fairways were full and carpet like. Bunkers need a little work and golfers need to rake after themselves. Pace got really slow over the last 4-5 holes, painfully. Bar and restaurant never fail to provide good service and food. BBQ , tots and a beer provided a fitting end to the day. Good practice facility. A place worth the drive.
