Great Recently Renovated Course

Recently played and practiced at Thorncreek. It had just recently re-opened after a major renovation project both at the clubhouse and course. Played and Practiced on August 17-18.
The Practice facilities were in great shape and very realistic and comparable to course/play conditions. The Driving ranges was split between two holes and exposed. It made it for a hot day of practice as well.
The course was in great shape for recently being taken under renovations. Tee Boxes, Fairways, and greens were in great shape. Bunkers seemed to be a little firm however it had rained the night before we played thus they may have been a little more saturated then usual. Also we played early thus the grounds crew might have not racked them yet. Thus they played kind of hard. The overall course layout was great. Lots of fun shots and great money shots in to the greens. Great course to play in North Denver.

Under Rate Course, Deserves a 5 star.

The Ridge at Castle Pines North is one of the most underrated Courses in the Denver Foothills region. This course has great exposed views of the hills and mountains with fantastic tee boxes and a ton of elevation changes throughout the course. The Change in elevation makes this course one of the most fun courses to play and work. Playing the ball in key strategic locations on this course is a key for success and making par. The overall course shape was in great condition. The Greens Fairways, rough, and tee boxes were cut in amazing conditions. We only ended up in 1 bunker but it played really well. it was a little firm but not unmanageable. This course is fantastic. The Practice facility is amazing as well. With great opportunities to practice realistic shots. The Facilities were representative of what is found on the course. This is a must play course in Denver.

Great City Course with Fast Greens.

Prairie Green Golf Course Run is a City owned Course that is always in Excellent condition for fun play. The Course plays around 7100 plus from the tips. It is an easy course to walk as there are is little major elevation change through out the course. The front nine plays fair with several fairways running together allowing you to get a glimpse at future holes as you are working to your next shot. The back 9 is spread out a little more and is set in amongst residential development. Throughout all 18 holes there are several challenging shots that require strategic placement of the ball to have a great shot to the Green In Regulation.
The practice facilities at the course are great with green comparable to what we will find out on the course. We played this course in just under 3.75hrs. The Club house has a snack shop and a small pro-shop. Don’t go to the pro shop expecting a lot of inventory. Overall this is a great course to play while in Sioux Falls, SD.

Play Once but move on

This course has been rated as Golf Digests top courses to play and is rated as Oahu’s tip course. The course over all I would give it only a three star rating. The scenery, location, and vistas that this course contains are remarkable. The course itself needs a little greenskeeper attention. The fairways were in rough shape and very uneven with multiple types of turf or “weeds”. I was disappointed in the fairways. Many fairways on the back nine showed exposed mud and dirt and minimal fairway turf. The greens were ok but were recently sanded and included many dry out spots. This made the putting surface very bouncy. I played over Memorial Day weekend thus I would have thought that the course would have been in remarkable condition. It also appeared that the grass only gets cut every so often and was recently cut because there was a lot of clumps I’d mowed grass covering a lot of the approach locations. Made the course aesthetically unpleasant. #13 is a par three. It hit the ball from the tee only five feet off the fringe but lost the ball because how soggy and unkept they kept the grass around the greens. I felt this was unfair for golf to hit a close shot and only
Have to lose it because of unkept grass.

The Practice facilities also needed a little attention. For this being the number one course on Oahu I was surprised by the upkeep or lack there of. Played, Checked off the list, probably wouldn’t be my preference to play again.

Best Private Course on Oahu. Play if you get the Chance.

Private Club with a Challenging Course.
At just under 6600 this yards this course offers a lot of opportunity for fun playable shots into the greens. AP was a co-designer on the course and you can see snip-its of his design ideas in the green layouts. The greens have a great layout with many greens surrounded by challenging bunker systems. The course is flat and should be experienced walking and not from the cart seat.

Course has a great pro shop with a friendly staff and starters. Starts introduces myself to several members just because. Dinning and other amenities around this private club are worth five stars.

Private Club but a must play

This Private Club 18 hole course is top of the line for private club atmospher. You will not find any better opportunity within the Black Hills for a private club. The golf course is a well manager 18 hole 6400 yard course that provides a lot of unique shots. Some great elevated tee style boxes that provide a different look to the course. There is minimal water elements on this course but a great surrounding of trees that tighten up the fairways.

The club house offers top of the line features with a full service bar and food atmospher along with a great dinning room setting. Club also features a indoor/outdoor tennis faculty and pool near the club house. Safe is extremely friendly and exactly what you should find at a private club. A must play course if you can find a member.

Best 9 hole in the Black Hills

Top 9 hole course in the Hills:
This nine hole course runs around just over 3,000 yards and requires pin point accuracy off the tees. Placing you tee shot in the right location almost guarantees you the opportunity at par. However a simple misstep of the tee can make most holes some of the more challenging lies you may play.
Course offers some decent views of the Black Hills and provides a nice setting with in the ponderosa pines. The club house is ok with a simple Bar and fried food options. For better food options find great restaurants in Downtown Custer.

Newest Course in the Black Hills

This is the newest course in the Black Hills. First several years this course offered a great 9hole experience but with the recently constructed back 9 this course is a MUST PLAY in the Black Hills. The course now runs over 7300 and has an amazing amount of topography. If you choose to walk 18 you are in for a great experience that will bring you some fantastic views of the Northern Black Hills. The course is well layer out to provide great opportunities as making or saving par. The uphill and downhill shots shots that you experience on this course make a challenging shots. Late summer and early spring can bring on some heavy winds that will make some of these holes play extra long and challenging for most golfers.

The club house and pro shop are fantastic facilities with great and knowledgeable staff. The electric carts and on course amenities are top notch and have been developed to bring a superior golf experience. The practice facility is a great and well taken care of with everything you need to prep your game as well as a putting green that replicates greens on the course.

The only downside to this golf course is that it is split by interstate 90 and at times that noise can take away from the experience and a great golf experience.

Spearfish Canyon
Spearfish Canyon Country Club is a great city run course in Spearfish South Dakota. The course runs through residential areas and provides some fantastic views to both Spearfish Canyon and the Black Hills. The course is always well maintained with finely mowed fairways and greens and healthy cut roughs. Is plays nice with strategically placed bunkers. The bunkers throughout the course could use some work as they are usually finely picked with a less then desirable sand type. This is the only disappointing part of this course. The rest of the course is easily walkable and should be experience walking the hills ungulate to provide a great course with lots of topography changes.

The club house and bar and grill are ok facilities that could use an upgrade to compare the course to the off course facilities. The practice facility is the negative for this course. The facilities lake any character and aesthetics for golfers. The putting green is flat and we have found that it is not maintained to the same quality as the on course greens.

Privately Owned Club that you need to play.

Top notch privately owned and operated course open to the public. This course is just over 6800 yards and has to be experienced walking. Just watch out for snakes and rattle snakes. Seriously if your balls goes in to the deep. Best just to leave it and play a drop not worth the potential scare or bit. The course sits nicely with in the valley before the foot hills. The front nine has a great spread out layout with plenty of room to play a variety of tee shots. Once you round the corner the back nine tends to tighten down and play a little more strategic to your tee and approach shots. The course tends to dry out quickly in the heat of the summer. July and August the course is best played in the early morning. The practice facilities within the course are great and provide realistic greens and chipping centers that are comparable to the on course features. They also have an indoor simulator to practice your game in the rainy days and snowy days in South Dakota.

The off course amenities are good. The proshop is always well stocked with knowledgeable staff. The bar is decent but has a limited food selection. This course is a must experience and play course for your next Black Hills trip. Just stay out of the tall grass.

Semi- Private course along the lake Must Play.

This semi-Private Club is just over 6700 and plays some great fun shots for the 18. Several holes are drivable and can provide some great fun opportunities if you try and reach from the tee. Course has a great club house and restaurant that is a great hole 19 after your round. I prefer to walk this course however most people tend to ride.

City Course that has a great layout.

This city owned and run muni course has always been top rated with in South Dakota. The 18 hole course falls just under 7000 in length and is easily walk able. However we have found that very few people walk this great course and choose to play “speed” golf on the carts. As with most muni courses there seems to always be a line at the starter. However the start at the course we have found runs a tight ship and keeps the pace moving along even with walkers/ riders trying to co-exist. The course is typically maintained for a city owned course. The roughs are usually fairly deep and the greens seem to run a little drawer by mid day. This course has had several renovations over the past several years including bunker and tee enhancements as well has additions to some of their practice facilities. Decent muni course with lots of traffics.

Good city owned and run course

Edgebrook golf course in Brookings is a great city owned course with a great layout. Some holes have precise tee shot placements and if you miss this you might struggle to meet par on the course. The course is flat and had little topography changes throughout the course. It is easily walkable but almost everyone rides this course. The practice facilities are decent and realistic to on course features. The downside to this course it is directly off the interstate and noise can be a distraction on this course.

Island style layout course

This course has a great layout with a lot of challenging water features. Well thought out design that provides a lot of risk reward style shots that include water. The course is fairly spread out and would be a distance to walk. Typical flat Florida course but it is spread out between holes. Would recommend this course and th Tennis facility.
