Tale of two nines

I have played this course numerous times, but this was the first time since their "Renovations". That being said, the course was still in very good shape, but it was definitely two different nines, the front nine, everything was wet, greens were soft, fairly slow and held, there were soft spots everywhere, but as soon as you make the turn, it is bone dry, the ball runs forever, and unless you hit a sky high approach shot or land it short of the green, good luck getting a hold. Additionally, the greens were lightning fast on the back so it was definitely a different approach to playing. One negative is the secondary rough, after you pass the first cut, you might as well forget finding a ball, the second cut is over 6 inches tall and thick, so any sprayed shots that roll out of the first cut, which swallows balls as well, is as good as a lost ball. Overall the course is in great shape, the staff as always were extremely helpful. Unfortunately, according to the staff, due to lack of business, the snack bar was closed, so only drinks and candy bars for any type of food.

Great course for the price

First time ever playing this course and coannot wait to go back. The fairways were lush, greens were soft and very tricky. Only bad part was there were storms all around, so the wind was howling. The course is very open, so even if you spray the ball around, you can still find it and ply on. We had a 3-some, and finished under 4 hours on a full course, so it was very enjoyable. No real "mentionable" holes, but a lot of blind shouts and a lot of curves that definitely make you think and play "smart" golf versus driver bashing every hole! Like I said, cannot wait to go back hopefully on a less windy day!

Good rate greens need some work

Haven't played here in quite a while and overall the course was in pretty good shape but some of the greens, #2 and 3 were the worst, but not bad for early spring. Overall very satisfied with the course and pace if play was excellent we finished in less than 4 hours. Can't wait to play again!!

Still soggy, but great course

I have tried to play this course twice and it never fails, both times, it has rained the night before. I really enjoy this course layout, good length par 3's, the par 5's are challenging and the green are in excellent condition. Can't wait to play it again, hopefully dry this time to get a good feel for the real teeth of the course.

Great conditions and prices

Course was very well maitained and in excellent shape for the end of July in South Texas. This was the first time at this course, and am looking forward to playing again. There are definitely quite a few holes that course knowledge pays off, but didn't hurt us too bad not knowing where we were supposed to play to. The fairways were nice and green, rough was cut but still penalizing if you were in it. The greens were really true, hard and fast, difficult to hold the green if you did not hit the right spots. We played in the afternoon so traffic wasn't too bad, we had no problems until we hit a 5-some on the back, but they let us play through on the second hole that we caught up to them, so it was not bad at all. All in all an excellent course for the money and am looking forward to hitting it up again soon.

Great customer service and course conditions!

This was the first time I have played this course, and the service was excellent! Before we teed off, the manager showed us to the first tee box, and gave us a valuable breakdown of each of the nine holes so we had a rough idea of what to expect. Even with all the rain we have had recently, the course was well drained and in excellent conditions. This was one of the most enjoyable rounds I have played in a long time, will definitely be back soon!!

Gret condition and tough greens

This is the second time I have played here and now that everything is greening up, it was a real pleasure to play. The fairways are deceptively wide, but still a lot of room for trouble if you do not pick your clubs correctly. A lot of "driver" holes that require less than a driver to be accurate. Greens are small, hard and fast, hard to get any of them to hold, even a super high lob wedge wouldn't hold, and the pin placements were definitely set up for a Sunday finish on this trip. Had a great time and really enjoy this course, just wish I lived closer, 45-50 minute drive is quite long after a 4 hour round.

Great course gone to ruins...

I have played this course about 5 times over the last 10 years, and this used to be an extremely beautiful and somewhat challenging course. However, due to recent financial troubles, even the $25 deal I got from golfnow was a waste of money. Just played it on 3-31-13, and the fairways were unidentifiable, the greens were terrible, and the overall experience was just brutal. It should not be possible to land a chip 5 yards into a green and still land in a bunker. Needles to say, we played the greens as an automatic two-putt. I really enjoyed this course in the past, but unless they invest some serious money to recover the green and actually try to plant some grass and learn how to mow the fairways, I will not be playing here again and would/could not recommend this course to anyone...
