Palmbrook Golf Club
Played On 11/23/2017Very pleasant round
Played on Thanksgiving and there couldn't have been more than a dozen people on the course. We got around in 3 hours on a perfect day. Course is in good shape, greens are a little faster than other courses in the area, which are still coming out of overseeing. We got a "hot deal" so it was a very inexpensive round. Highlight of the round was when one of our group fell into a pond attempting to retrieve a ball. Memorable day. :-)
North Golf Course at Sun City
Played On 03/12/2017Sun City North course
This is a course that caters primarily to the Sun City retirement community, most of whose members have their own carts. There seems to be a minimum number of carts available for the public and I waited 45 minutes for a cart to appear, just past my tee time. In fact, I was packing up to head home at the time. Several other players were hanging around the pro shop waiting for carts.
The course was fine; tee boxes, fairways and greens had not been cut in a while and all were shaggy. Course was in decent condition, just needed cutting. Bunkers were in good shape. Layout is fairly straightforward, a typical Sun City course, winding through the housing.
Arizona Traditions Golf Club
Played On 03/04/2017Verrado Golf Club - Victory Course
Played On 02/28/2017Fun golf course
Played Victory twice now and each time it has been a lot of fun. Large, tiered and undulating greens make two-putting a challenge. Greens are average in speed, but it is likely they will speed up with more time to mature and to be cut shorter. Landing areas off the tees are generous, bunkers have good sand, and overall course condition is very good. Range is included in green fee. GPS not yet available, so you have to rely on sprinkler head yardages. Lots of great views of the west valley.
Palmbrook Golf Club
Played On 01/24/2017Palmbrook
Palmbrook has always been a good track, not extremely difficult, but a decent test, especially the greens. A typical flat desert course, but many greens have tiers and slopes which provide a challenge. Range balls included in the green fee, which is a bonus. We will be back to play it again.
Las Sendas Golf Club
Played On 08/23/2016Demanding test of golf
This is one of the more difficult courses I've played in the Phoenix area. Small elevated greens, large bunkers, waste areas, blind shots, etc. make this course a real challenge. Bring your "A" game to this course. Pro shop staff very friendly and accommodating.
Grand Canyon University Golf Course
Played On 04/12/2016Enjoyable course
I did not play the old Maryvale muni version of this course, so cannot compare with the new GCU course. This course is a fun, parkland-style track, in good shape and the greens are fast. Bunkers are plentiful and deep, although the sand quality is very good if you have to play out of one. I got a "hot deal" on golfnow, so the green fee was more reasonable than the normal fee.
San Tan Highlands
Played On 04/07/2016Course is bone dry
Not sure what is going on at this course (rumor was of a dispute between the water provider and the golf course) but it is baked out. Greens aren't bad, but the rest of the course is hardpan. Too bad, as the course is fun to play, especially the back 9. Booked on golfnow and paid the booking fee, then was billed two additional "convenience fees" at the pro shop. Not going to break the bank, but irritating nonetheless. I hope these additional "fees" will go toward watering the course.
Grandview Golf Course at Sun City West
Played On 03/17/2016Enjoyed this course.
Good track, well-maintained, good greens, interesting layout. Very busy course and we were 4.5 hours but that's standard for Phoenix in March. A highlight of the round was seeing an enormous hawk land beside the green where we were putting, and he watched us until we finished. We will play this course again.
Arizona Biltmore Golf Club - Links Course
Played On 03/15/2016A very enjoyable course.
Links is a much more interesting course than Adobe, with varied hole designs and changes in elevation. Not a long course from the white tees, but club selection and where to hit the ball require some thought, especially on the back 9, which as some sloping fairways and elevated greens. My only concern with this course is the quality of the bunkers with crusty and inconsistent sand. Pace of play was quite good on a busy day. This is a course I will play again.
Wickenburg Country Club
Played On 03/10/2016Bring your "A" game.
This is one of the tightest courses I've ever played. Not long off the white tees, (5,800 yards) but you have to hit it straight. Many par 4's don't require a driver, so that helps. Course is in nice shape and the small greens roll true. Local knowledge goes a long way here, being aware of where to hit your shots. The lone palm tree in front of the first green is bizarre, but in many ways this is a unique course and I thought it was worth the drive from the west valley of Phoenix.
Arizona Biltmore Golf Club - Estates Course
Played On 03/01/2016Adobe
As you might know from its date, this is an old-style, flat, parkland course. Not a lot of variety in hole design, but a well-kept nice course. Greens are small and well-bunkered. Plays longer than advertised, as the fairways are lush and there is very little roll on tee shots. 18 holes are packed together tightly, so some tee boxes are beside greens or landing areas, and one needs to be aware of other golfers hitting towards you. Surrounded by large, beautiful, old stately homes. Overall, a good experience.
Coyote Lakes Golf Club
Played On 02/12/2016Not your typical desert course
This is not a course for bombers, as it is just 6,300 yards and quite narrow in places. Requires some thought as to where to hit the ball, with hilly, undulating fairways and large, tiered greens, which were in good condition. Fairways were in average shape; the bunkers had good sand and were playable. GPS on the cart was excellent and was very helpful, as club selection on this course is super important. The course was packed and the round took 4.5 hours. We enjoyed it however, as it is quite a different golf experience. It is one of those courses where local knowledge really helps. We will come back and play it again.
Encanto Golf Course
Played On 12/04/2015Excellent greens
Had never played this muni before, so we decided to check it out. It is a flat, open golf course, but with greens that are first class. Greens are in very good condition and very fast, beyond what you might expect at a public course. A few of the par 4's are 400 + yards from the white tees and really challenging. A nice golf experience and we'll play here again.
Thank you for taking the time to review us. Your feedback is valuable, and we look forward to delivering you excellent service again soon. Encanto Golf Course thanks you!
Copper Canyon Golf Club - Vista/Lake Course
Played On 08/18/2015Worth the drive
I play this course every summer when I can afford the green fee. :-) Always a fun track and this summer, the course is in very good condition, especially the greens. Played the copper/silver combo tees (approx. 6100 yards) and the course very forgiving at that distance. Landing areas off the tees are generous, greens are soft and receptive, bunkers in good shape, lots of cold drinking water around the course. Will be back again next summer.
Mission Royale Golf Club
Played On 01/17/2015Mission Royale
Enjoyed the course, although grass conditions were a little spotty on many holes. Fairways and greens have patches of bare spots, although the greens seem to roll true and are fast. Greens are large with many tiers and undulations; bunkers are in decent shape. Beverage cart appeared several times. The course caters mostly to local Casa Grande folks; it is questionable whether it is worth a long drive from the west valley of Phoenix, as there are many equally appealing options closer to home.
The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 12/08/2014Bring your "A" game.
This is not an easy course, but is very challenging and in excellent condition. Tiered greens are very fast. Bunkers are deep and to be avoided. Even the fairway bunkers are deep and do not permit anything other than a wedge to get back on the fairway. Carts have GPS with lots of good info to help in club selection. Played the white tees (approx. 6,100 yards) and had my hands full. Overall, one of the better courses in the Phoenix area and I will be back.
McDowell Mountain Golf Club
Played On 12/01/2014McDowell Mountain
Got a hot deal on golfnow, otherwise I'm not sure it is worth the rack rate of $70+. The greens are taking a real beating this early in the season and are full of poorly repaired and unrepaired ball marks. Consequently, many putts do not roll true and are at the mercy of the ball marks. Several of my putts went offline when they hit ball marks. Greens are soft, which results in ball marks everywhere. The buzzing hydro lines running throughout the property do not add to the esthetics. Otherwise, it is an interesting track and enjoyable. Beverage cart came by frequently and golf course staff were friendly and helpful. Paired up with a really nice couple from Quebec City, which made the round very pleasant.
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 11/26/2014Ocotillo
A really good test of golf, with abundant water hazards all over the course. Course is in good condition and the greens are in great shape as well. Lots of carry shots over water, so you need to be sure of club selection. (Take a GPS with you.) Bunkers have lots of sand and are fair. Some crazy expensive real estate to look at over the 18 holes. Overall, a fun time and warrants a trip back.
Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club
Played On 11/24/2014Excellent golf course!
Loved this course. Very challenging, great condition, greens the best I've played this fall, staff very friendly, well worth the drive from the west valley. Will definitely be back.
So glad to hear you enjoyed your round and will be back! Thank you for this feedback and we look forward to seeing you again!
