Shepherd's Crook Golf Course
Played On 07/18/2020Excellent track on the IL/WI border.
I have been playing here since it opened in 1999. The course is in the best shape since the opening. The general manager that came on board in 2017, Allen Parkes has made numerous improvements to both the course and the facilities. This is a great working man's course with private club quality you will never tire of playing. The course can be challenging, especially if played from the tips or when the wind is blowing. Pin positions can be selected that enhance the challenge. There are four sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels. A great place to play and well worth the money.
Shepherd's Crook Golf Course
Played On 09/16/2017Best Value in Lake County
I play Shepherd's Crook regularly as my "home course." This is a links style course that you never tire of playing. Conditions are always good and the staff is friendly. The four sets of tees offer degrees of difficulty suitable to all handicaps. The tips offer significant challenge for even the low handicappers and when combined with wind and selected pin positions, they present a test for the best golfers.
There is a Player's Club program that includes CDGA handicap, discounts on green fees, rewards points, exclusive events and a handicap bracketed match play championship with season ending scramble and banquet.
This course is the best value in Lake County. Lack of a driving range is the only negative.
If you are serious about your golf, don't overlook this one.
The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort
Played On 09/05/2017Must Play in St. Simons
This semi-private course at the north end of St. Simons Island is a must play if you are visiting the Golden Isles. The layout is interesting and very playable, with three very scenic holes on the back nine carved out of the marsh. The course and greens were in excellent condition. The General Manager, Rick Mattox was extremely cordial and welcomes the GolfNow players. This course is an exceptional value when you book the first morning Hot Deal tee times on GolfNow. Don't pass this one up.
The Crossings At Carlsbad
Played On 05/22/2017Great Course
Played this course for the second time while on vacation with my son. Abundant rains this spring have improved conditions measurably since we last played here in '15. Course was in great shape and a real value with the GolfNow Hot Deal. We enjoy this interesting and challenging track and have made it one our must play courses when in San Diego. The gentleman behind the counter in the pro shop checking us in was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Pace of play was excellent - we never waited. The elevation changes on several holes, especially on the back nine provide for scenic views and thought provoking club selection. A very enjoyable course to play.
Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 05/21/2017Challenging track
Played this course for the first time while on vacation in San Diego. Read mixed reviews before booking round and called course prior to booking to inquire about conditions. Course was in reasonably good shape and damage caused by flooding in February has diminished for the most part. There were still a few thin spots in the fairways. Greens were in good condition. This is a fun track to play with a few challenging holes requiring precision off the tee. Will probably play again on next visit to San Diego area.
The Crossings At Carlsbad
Played On 02/23/2016Great Course
Played course for first time on father-son golf trip to San Diego. Being from the Midwest, dramatic elevation changes and scenery made for an enjoyable experience. Weather was perfect and course was in reasonably good shape considering persistent drought conditions and recently aerated greens. Although server in the Canyons grill was unfriendly, the starter was extremely cordial and gave us several tips after inquiring if this was our first time playing. Joined up with two friendly locals on fourth hole who were very helpful regarding nuances of the course and strategies for play. Back nine is one of the most interesting I've ever played, winding through the hills and canyons. A great experience overall and a course that will remain on the list of must plays when in the San Diego area.
Far Oaks Golf Club
Played On 10/03/2015Enjoyable Challenge
Found an early morning discounted rate on GolfNow for second tee time. Foursome with first tee time let me play through as a single on second hole. This is a challenging track with numerous elevation changes. Need to play several rounds to learn the nuances and optimum target areas on some of the holes. A few holes require shorter, well placed tee shots with 3-metal, hybrid or long iron to avoid running through fairways to hazards. Course was in good shape and very playable although weather was cold and windy. Only criticism was that the sprinklers had not been turned off on the 2nd and 3rd greens until after I had played through the holes. Had to pick up and card two-putts on both. Will definitely play this course again when in St. Louis.
Pevely Farms Golf Club
Played On 10/02/2015Disappointing Conditions
I first played this course with my son back in 2010 when he attended college in St. Louis. The conditions of the course were excellent at that time. I was in St. Louis on 10/2/15 and found a tee time at a discounted rate on GolfNow. Management has let this once fine track deteriorate. The greens were in rough shape with bare spots as well as considerable damage from pitch marks that had been left unrepaired. Sand had been completely removed from a few of the bunkers leaving dirt and weeds. It appears as if the management company is cutting costs by scaling back on maintenance. It was disappointing to see this once beautiful track diminished by neglect. Current conditions do not justify the rack rate. I would have been upset had I not gotten a deep discounted rate through GolfNow. On the plus side, the staff was friendly and accommodating, pairing me up with a friendly threesome which allowed me to start earlier than my originally scheduled tee time.
The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort
Played On 11/7/2013Fun course to play.
I have played this course each time I visit St. Simons. I found a hot deal on an early morning tee time on Golfnow.com for $38 with cart which was a great value for this course. Normal rates are $115 for non-members which is too high for this track. There are several picturesque holes on the back nine, 12-15, that border and criss-cross over the marshes. It is an enjoyable track to play and you can score well. Course conditions were very good with the exception of a few mole trails and dug up turf on a few holes where the wild pigs had rooted for grubs overnight. Greens were in great shape and putted true at a good speed for the average golfer. Would definitely recommend this course, but only with a discounted greens fee.
td5780, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Shepherd's Crook Golf Course.
