Carolina Lakes Golf Club
Played On 08/21/2016Best Public Course in Charlotte
This is the best public course Charlotte has to offer seroius golfers. After being here two years, it is shocking to find the lack of above-average courses in area.
Bent grass greens (taking a beating due to the heat at this point) usually roll very nicely. Good mix of holes with risk-reward situations and birdie opportunities. At $59, it's far superior to lesser tracks that as $68-70. You'll hit every club off the tee.
Downsides are the less-than-friendly clubhouse staff and poor selection of items in the snack bar/beverage cart. The two-tee system they use on weekend mornings, has been disconcerting as it appears that the starter has little idea how to incorporate those groups that start on #10.
All in all, you won't find many better than you can play in the Charlotte area, so book your time.

If you can make it out this far, I'd suggested. Fun layout that brings out every club in the bag. Prices are moderate, tee times are relatively accessible and those looking for an early time can play quickly. A good score can be had if you're driving it straight, but there is plenty of peril if not.

Very nice conditions in the fairways with nice bent grass greens. If this course was in Charlotte, it would be double the price. It's one of the best 5 public courses in the Charlotte area either way.
Clubhouse is a little dated but more than functional. Pace was 4:15 but I was playing as a single behind a tournament. The pro was rude to me since I booked on golfnow.com as a single. He said nothing against you, but I can't stand Golf Now and we're done with them next week. Note to pro: not my issue. Manage your own course.
All in all, though, a fun layout with great conditions. Worth a drive out. Took an hour from Fort Mill.

the front nine is not particularly memorable or enjoyable. a couple holes border on unfair and need to be redesigned. the back is much more playable/fun.
conditions vary from pretty good to ho hum. receives a lot of play so will be slow during peak times and is too expensive for what you get with this course.
staff is relatively friendly. clubhouse is getting dated on the inside (needs a refresh) and the merchandise is subpar.
it's worth a play when not peak times so rates are closer to fair and the pace of play is bearable.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We will take your words into deep consideration as we are constantly working toward making our course the best it can be for our golfers. We hope you decide to come back and play with us again!

Greens were firm and true. Sneaky tough at times - not one holes is immensely difficult but shooting a very low round can be.
How about the green and ball marks?
