Asheville Municipal Golf Course
Played On 04/17/2015Donald Ross Muni course
OK, just zip through the front nine, nice and flat, nothing too interesting, but decent. The wait is worth the back nine. I have played many Donald Ross course and this back was truly representative of his style, lots of undulations, crowned greens (not as crowned as say Pinehurst). Number 10 is the first a many elevated tees, high sides running too the middle. Ball placement is more important around the greens on the back. I pared the par 5's and had bogeys on the par threes on the back.
You should be able to shoot well under your handicap.
Course is 8 minutes away from Biltmore Village.
I see some reviews complaining about slow play, but each time I have played there is has been quick. I was paired with another Golf Now user, we were done in 3 1/2 hours. PS the egg salad sandwich was delicious.
April is early Spring in Asheville, so pretty rough tees and fairways. Rough is thick.
Desert Canyon Golf Club
Played On 02/07/2015Excellent Golf Course
Great pace of play, marshal was great. Fun and challenging. Elevation changes are interesting. Love the views.
Camelback Golf Club - Padre Course
Played On 02/02/2015Nice course, could use a marshal
Nice course, fun on most holes, some are a challenge. could use a marshal that paid attention. We were close to sundown at the end of our round and finished in the dark. Should have had plenty of time.
Tri-Mountain Golf Course
Played On 07/11/2014Great course, could use a marshal
Very wide open course, nice views of Mt St Helens. It is near IV, so some road noise. Greens were fast and a nice challenge. Played behind really slow foursome hitting from the back tees. The person we were teamed up with called the pro shop. They were told to speed up and play it forward. Did no good, so a 4 hour 50 minute round.
I do recommend to course, Hope to play again with normal folks in front of us.
Beacon Rock Public Golf
Played On 07/05/2014Nice 9 hole course. Play week day only!
Nice nine hole course. To play 18 you will continue around and play from a tee box a bit further back which mixes it up nicely. So when you arrive for your tee time, probably a group will be making the turn and there could be two or more groups waiting to tee off playing 1 and 10 especially when the men's group is playing. So plan to play on a week day. Views of the mountains were lovely. Breeze coming from the gorge was nice, as it was a hot day.
Big hitters are a bit scary, easy for them to hit a neighboring fairway.
Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club - Ghost Creek Course
Played On 05/29/2014Great Course
The course showed no signs of the recent aerating. IN GREAT SHAPE. Got a good deal. We are looking at the $99 card for 55 and older. Seems like a good deal. A long course, got on most par 4 greens in three, so lots of par chances. Long par threes, on in two. Don't let the length scare you off. Some construction in the pro shop building, look as if the new pro shop will be top notch. If you end much past 5 PM good chance the grill will be closed, we just made it in time to get a drink and dinner. Nice beverage cart service. You will enjoy this course.
Mountain View Golf Club
Played On 05/20/2014Fun course but don't get too relaxed
Fun course, some easy par holes, but don't let your guard down, some water and tree trouble. The hype on the 12th does not prepare you for the height of the tee and the view down to a tiny green. Very fun hole. We would not want to drive that cart path in the winter, or rain, very steep. Great views of Mt Hood.
Lots of locals palling around. If Boring, Or is close to you, this is a great course for you. It was a 48 minute drive for us, so worth it every month or two.
Eastmoreland Golf Course
Played On 05/12/2014Nice older course
Course is lined with old trees, water in play on a few holes. Greens are hard to read, even for regulars. So lag putting is a must. Great deals on Pro Shop clothes. Food and beverages were a good deal.
Lake Oswego Golf Course
Played On 04/20/2014Lovely course
Course is in terrific shape. Easy to walk, fun and lovely. I am a short hitter and had to use my driver on the longer holes, or hitting uphill. Longer hitters should not have to use a driver.
Food options were a nice surprise, no hot dogs here. Great cooks from El Salvador fixing up rice, beans, marinated beef, pork or chicken.
Situated in a lovely older neighborhood.
Lewis River Golf Course
Played On 04/08/2014Nice hidden golf course
Hard to find the course even with GPS, but worth the effort. Nice facility. Easy course to walk, very flat, seems to be in a valley. Some hidden ponds and water hazards. All in all a nice course. Now to my soap box. We were partnered with an average golfer, talk about someone that has watched too much golf on TV. Lined up forever, way too many practice swings, and was frozen over putts. My husband and I were polite, tried to be good sports, he did not ruin the round but it would have been much more pleasant if we were not paired up with this slow guy. We had no one in front of us, if it had been just us, we would have been done playing in half the time. So not the courses fault for slow play. Please, people just play along, stop fussing. Thanks
Lakeview Par 3 Golf Challenge
Played On 04/02/2014Don't let the idea of a par 3 course keep you away
Glad we played Lakeview, we were the only ones on the course, for the entire hour and a half. Great place to practice your short game. The challenge was hitting off matts. Trees everywhere, along with water, so you need to be accurate. Not a walk in the park as you might think. At $5 per person, can't complain. We shot a few birdies, lots of pars and a couple double bogies because of the crowned greens.
Camas Meadows Golf Club
Played On 03/10/2014Nice course-looking forward to playing when it is dry
The area here has had inches of rain, so the course was wet, but in very nice shape. We are new to the area and looking for a home course, this might be it. It is a challenge, but fun and should be very pretty in the Spring and Summer months. A lot of elevation, water everywhere, so hit straight. They have an annual pass, nice club house, helpful friendly staff.
Heron Lakes Golf Club - Greenback Course
Played On 03/07/2014long course
Three tee boxes are not enough, as a 26 index, I could not reach any green in regulation. Not a fun course, too long for me. Looking for a home course close to Vancouver, WA. Will not be this course. OK to play a few times a year, nice course, friendly staff.
Cherokee Valley Course and Club
Played On 11/20/2013Sorry, have to pass on Cherokee Valley in the future
Cherokee Valley needs some help. Started with a surly greeting from the woman at the Pro Shop. Seems as if she did not want to be there. This was our first time at the course and saw mixed reviews but were open to having a nice day. The course was in decent shape for November, some tee boxes were in bad shape, as were some areas around the greens. We were paired up with a great twosome, also booked a Hot Deal. Things went well until the 14th green. Our carts began to die quickly. Called the pro shop, they sent out a worker, who traded them out, we were the sixth cart to die. Seems they were not charged the night before. There was only a small snack window, the two gals inside, were rude, also seems they did not want to be there.
The length for red tees were a lot shorter than the white tees, rating of 116 was not correct, much more difficult, played longer. The greens were not only difficult, they penalized almost every approach shot. The pace of play was slow. No marshall. Hard to believe folks would not move along in the winter when sun gets low earlier and it got cold. We ended at 5:00, should have ended at 4:00.
There are many nice courses in the Greenville, SC area that want you to play in the winter and make an effort to make things nice. I believe Cherokee Valley relies on the summer months, so we will pick another course next week.
Village Greens Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/14/2013Village Greens is a fun, challenging course
Village Greens is a fun course, but a challenge, with all the water. The water is pretty, and glad it is there. There rate a few blind shots, so we are looking forward to our second time to play.
Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/28/2013Cummings Cove is very nice.
Nice course, good for women. I shot my handicap. The white tees are a lot harder on the back, average 4 to 5 stokes more. The forward tees are similar front and back. Very lovely course, fall colors were great. Just starting to go dormant.
The Waynesville Inn Golf Resort & Spa - Dogwood/Blue Ridge
Played On 10/18/2013Waynesville Inn Golf Resort is so much fun!
This course is perfect for a short, straight hitter. I am a 26 index, and hit 9 greens in regulation from the reds, very fun for me. Golf courses are too long, this course is perfect. Husband hit from the whites, 16 index, senior, again perfect length. Very pretty, trees are turning color. Highly recommend.
Black Mountain Golf Course
Played On 10/9/2013Average course in a nice setting
Greens were in good shape, tees need attention. It is an average course that could be better with maintenance. Decent for the price. A good course for women, rating of 117 from the reds. We played in Oct. 2013, next week the fall colors will be in full color.
Sapphire National Golf Club
Played On 9/22/2013Must play Sapphire for the par threes
Sapphire is a wonderful public course in the Highlands area, near Brevard. The views are spectacular. It has par threes that are all signature type holes fun and quite a challenge, the 15th is an island green and elevated tee. The 13th is a beautiful par 4 with a waterfall dividing the fairway. We recommend going up on the right, the left has low hanging tree branches.
It is a very up and down course, carts are a must. The rating is a bit low, plays harder. We are going back during leaf season in October.
Princeville Makai Golf Club - Makai Course
Played On 7/14/2013Loved Princeville Makai, must play
Beautiful course, I agree with another review, hard to focus on the game with all the stunning views. Our home course is designed by Donald Ross, punitive greens, Princeville Makai is the opposite, your ball will stick, greens run true. Very fun and a challenge. Can not say enough positive, and nothing negative. Wind was not a problem the day we played, nice to have as it was about 84. Also, abundant birds, and a baby albatross in a nest, your cart GPS will warn you when you are approaching the nest.
cant put much faith in this review, with a 25 handicap as an advanced player, maybe they could use some help. i've played this course close to 30 times and have never had ANY problems other than the course whipping me. Golf is not a drive thru at McDonalds, if you don't have time to play-- stay home
