Robber's Row at Port Royal Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2023No Robbery Here
A very playable course of the Low Country fashion. Lots of sand, water, trees, etc. All in great shape, except the greens were slow. Course does not start near the clubhouse or return after 9 so stock up. Interesting historical markers around the course. Learned "Robber's Row" was unofficial name of the main street thru the Civil War camp there (9, 10 fairways) with various hustlers trying to get into the soldiers' pockets. Great practice area with dual pitching greens. No starter in PM but no worries. *Not sure if he was 'on staff' but a pro (?) acted like the pitching area was his alone. Would play again and recommend.
Bear Creek Golf Club
Played On 07/06/2022The Shaggy Bear
Bear Creek is a fun course on HHI. Tee to green the course is in great shape. Off the fairway though and you can find yourself in some deep stuff, and not always fair. (5' off fairway, and it's 4' rough because they didn't mow around a tree?) Helpful starter - and lunch included!
Course is kind of similar: tough par-3s, par-5 doglegs with more yardage after the turn, and most every par-4 a dogleg with multiple cross bunkers at the turn. Greens were in good shape. Limited water on the course and no drink cart. Great value compare to other on-island courses. Play the Bear!

Fun course In great shape. Greens a bit slow but fair.
Mystic Dunes Golf Club
Played On 03/29/2022Dunes & More
Named for the many sandy waste areas around the course that would be water elsewhere in FL. Play as lift clean place. Some tricky holes plus some undulating greens. Signature par-3 a bit contrived. Greens rolling well and course overall in good shape. Shaggy near the waste areas. Great pro shop and snack bar. Friendly staff Some long jaunts between holes. Would play again.
Thank you for visiting us at Mystic Dunes Golf Club. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
White Heron Golf Club
Played On 03/26/2022Okay Course
Lots & lots of water, often hidden. Decent shape. Pro shop guy texting away, took money, no suggestions on range or where to go. Hello? Would play again.
Kissimmee Bay Country Club
Played On 03/31/2022Oh Bay-be
Good: Nice layout with lots of water and bunkers. Tee to green all in good shape. Greens roll well. Good value.
Bad: Bunkers more dirt than sand; no rakes. No restroom or water. Course touting not always clear. Range is a lake.
Ugly: morning league of fivesomes. Good luck playing through. Pro shop closed at 1:30?
Would play again (when no league).
TPC Sawgrass - THE PLAYERS Stadium Course
Played On 09/09/2021Golfvana
TPC really needs no review. A top 10 course in the US, that challenges the toughest field in the world year after year. Immaculate conditions and very, very tough. If you're in trouble - which you will be, maybe often - just getting out is a challenge. Bring your A+ sand game. Our forecaddie Austin made the round: here there everywhere with tips, ball locating, taking clubs, reading greens, etc. When you hit the island green on #17, you can die a happy golfer.
King and Bear Golf Course at World Golf Village
Played On 09/08/2021K&B > S&S @ WGV, but...
At the World Golf Village you should expect no less. Challenging joint Arnie-Jack layout; tougher than Slammer & Squire, with more of water and sand plus some "faced" greens. Great conditions throughout, although greens weren't 100% back from aeration a month ago. Great staff, starter, bev cart, etc. Good conditions throughout, however -
Greens weren't back from aeration a couple weeks ago. Sure, courses have to do this but it really detracted from the round not to be able to get a smooth putt. S&S was punched a month ago and not 100% back so figure 6 weeks for full recovery in wet FL.
Slammer and Squire Golf Course at World Golf Village
Played On 09/07/2021Great Course, Great Round
At the World Golf Village you should expect no less. Challenging yet playable course with lots of water and sand. Hey, it's Florida! Great conditions throughout, although greens weren't 100% back from aeration a month ago. Great staff, starter, bev cart, etc. Only quibble was the group behind pressing us because they were playing from the very forward tees, then driving within a tire width of the greens.
Barony at Port Royal Golf Club
Played On 07/06/2021Golf Can Be a Beach
Barony is one of two courses at Port Royal operating out of same clubhouse. Classic Low Country layout with lush fairways, lot of bunkering, greenery all arounnd, and wetness. Layout was fun and we motored around pretty well on a soggy, blustery day. Many greens are small and surrounded by bunkers. Bunkers are also low country typical: wet sand/dirt mix. Adjust accordingly. Staff was great; very friendly.
Major downside was the greens had been aerated three weeks ago (per another review) and hadn't recovered. No one made a putt all day; hard to get a read or a roll.
Quibble: The front nine does not return to the clubhouse (or near it) and we didn't see the drink cart after the 5th hole.
Would play again.
Seminole Lake Country Club
Played On 07/05/2020All Around Good Round
Nice layout in great shape. Paspalum greens are firm on landing but not quick; interesting combo. Course is tight with doglegs and sand. Some water including shallow trenches crossing fairways. Snack bar rather disorganized; need to grab & go! Masks even just to sign in. Tepid fountains only on course. No drink cart til back 9. Would play again.
Arthur Hills at Palmetto Hall Plantation
Played On 07/29/2019Good Course - Could be More
Low Country course with water, sand, and rough. GN tee sheet showed wide open when I scheduled, which is great since I wanted to get around quickly. Au contraire. #1 backed up early. Paired with twosome for front, then matched up with threesome due to the pace. Early start shouldn't be 4.5 hours. Greens were very sandy. Was told later that's why the round was discounted. I specifically avoided Port Royal Barony at same cost because their times were marked with Aeration warning. Another review says punched in May - not yet recovered?
Bunkers are mud flats - avoid. Course not well marked: small plaques on some sprinkler heads. Cart paths torn up in several places. Tees and fairways all very good. Stout closing hole. Water and a drink cart.
PHP Hills needs a bit of work. Perhaps its members' Cupp course is getting it? With all that, still an enjoyable round.
Country Club of Hilton Head
Played On 07/27/2019Classic Low Country Golf
Very well maintained course with typical low country features. Lots of water, sand, and rough. Tees and fairways in great shape. Greens not yet back from aeration. Bunkers - meh. Hardpan sand/mud seems Low Country typical. Course was well marked with water stations and a drink cart. Paired with a twosome and got around at a good pace. A fun challenge. Would play again.
Quibbles: Call of "You're on the tee." 15 minutes before tee time. Homeowner squawking about looking for partners' balls in her yard. You live on a golf course, ma'am.
Remington Golf Club
Played On 03/06/2019Go for the Golf
Do you want a round on a very playable course that's in good condition and at a reasonable price.? Then Remington is for you. Tees, fairways, and greens are all in great shape. Do you want pristine conditions, staff at your call, every amenity, and a high price? Plenty of those options in the Orlando area.
Yes, the pro shop is spartan, and shared a counter with the snack bar. The range is a lake, with a few peninsula targets. Practice green barely qualifies. Restroom on the back 9 is a port-a-john. Bunkers are dirt; many lack rates. And the reasonable rate will bring out the hackers, meaning pace will suffer. Rolled up on multiple tees to find three groups on the hols.
All that, and yet the layout and overall conditions compensated. Would play again.

Falcon's Fire Golf Club
Played On 03/04/2019Fire Me Up!
Outstanding experience from the complimentary valet parking to the check-in to the play. Course is in excellent condition (although I wish the greens would hold shots better). Little water in play for a FL course, but shaggy mounds and rough offer solid defenses. Wind was blowing like crazy as an extra challenge. Staff was very helpful and professional. Would do again in a heartbeat.

Dolphin Head Golf Course
Played On 09/07/2018A Head Course At Hilton
A very enjoyable course typical of the Low Country. Very good conditions all around except bunkers which are hard and thin. Nice layout, great price, helpful staff, good practice facility. Several doglegs you can hit through so select clubs accordingly. Marshal passed us three times on front 9 - but not once on back where we slogged behind a mixed foursome. Note: They do not take AmEx.
Interesting closing holes: A par-3 with a boomerang green. Easy to be on and have no putt. Then a risk-reward par-5 with water all the way down the right side to the green. Also has a 2nd fairway for another tee box. That'd be really risky!
Sapelo Hammock Golf Club
Played On 07/20/2018High Praise for Low Country Golf
Off the beaten path (but not too much), Sapelo Hammock is a gem in GA's low country. Lush fairways, true greens, some stout par-3s (200 yds, all carry), and some tricky,multi-fairway par-5s make for a great round. Great value for the money. Get there early and you can zip around. Two fivesomes cheerfully waved me through.
St. James Bay Golf Club
Played On 05/29/2018Target Golf - Aim Well!
SJB weaves its way through nature on the Forgotten Coast. Nice not to have homes lining the fairways. Holes though are bordered by that same nature. If you're off, you're gone. Many holes also have nature areas in front of the tee box, then again in front of the green. So hit the target! Greens were just okay; lush but not particularly smooth. Typical water and sand for a FLA course. But like any good course, if you hit it straight you will score.
Green fees drop $10 every 2 hours from 11 AM on. Weekdays should be open, so you may want to get a tee time directly. Well maintained course with all expected amenities.
Would play again.
Disney's Palm Golf Course
Played On 03/21/2018Disney Experience on a Windy Day
Like everything at WDW, the Palm course is top-notch. Great layout, great condition. Greens are hard to read and hard to gauge. It's Florida, so lots of water and sand - not a good combo when the wind is 20-30 mph. GPS carts are (mostly) great, with interactive map to get most any distance - but the "nannying" (cart reduced to a crawl if it's somewhere they don't want to you be) was a bit irritating.
Minor quibbles: pro shop gave no info regarding range or balls. (Palm course is not near pro shop.) Not sure why Orlando and FLA residents get different rates, but GolfNow needs to find a way to filter them better. $59 isn't $115.
Legends Walk at Orange Lake Resort
Played On 03/19/2018Under the Lights: Fun and Weirdness
Had rarely played par-3 courses and never under the lights. Had great time with both. Legends Walk is a pretty stout par-3 layout with several holes 190 yards +. Takes a while to get used to the nighttime conditions. Greens are understandably small and fairly level. Great walk and would definitely do it again.
Quibbles: Some lighting isn't great including where trees block them. [Prune] With holes winding among condos, in the dark not always easy to find next hole. [Add signage] Encountered one guy using a green for chipping practice (picked up my ball) and drunk trio playing corn-hole on another (really!). [Security!]
Seamus - thank you for spending the day with us!!
