Pinelands Golf Club
Played On 03/03/2024Great early season round
We had a super day to play with almost 70 degree Temps and little wind. While we played from shorter temporary tees, it was still good golf. The layout is excellent and improvements are being done. The greens are large and very challenging. The amenities and staff are quite good. What was once a course that you wouldn't want to play is now a course that everyone will find enjoyable.
Mountain Branch Golf Course
Played On 02/26/2024Top notch track
Mountain Branch is a fine course and in quite nice shape for this time of year. To those in Philly who are looking for a new day trip to play golf and eat well, this is a place to go to for sure. The course is on rolling hills and the changes in elevation make club selection crucial. The greens are enormous and 3 putts can be your biggest enemy here. The staff is nice and the carts are really nice. Had a great day on my recent visit!
Mountain Branch Golf Course
Played On 02/26/2024Excellent for this time of year
For Feb 26, the course was in remarkable shape. Great layout. Greens are gigantic and it's hard to hit approaches close. Can't wait to come back in prime season.
Patriots Glen Golf Club
Played On 10/26/2023Noticeably better
I read some recent reviews and played an afternoon round here a few days ago. You can notice the greens are much better and overall condition of the course is much better. The layout has always been great. I'm hoping that things will continue on an upward path at Patriots Glen and I will definitely be back to play there in 2024.
Oak Creek Golf Club
Played On 08/05/2023Tough challenge for sure
I was in Annapolis for the day and chose Oak Creek based on the reviews I read. We played from the blue next to the back tees. The course was in very good shape. The greens are huge and that makes for a lot of 3 putt activity. The holes are well bunkered and it definitely plays longer than the listed yardage. I rarely had less than a long iron or hybrid in my hand on approach shots. The breaks in the greens are small and subtle. We had a great day and hope to return here.
Bulle Rock Golf Club
Played On 07/04/2023Soggy but the greens were firm
It was a cart path only day and with super hot weather and high humidity it was a beast to walk. The greens were in good shape and not soft. Most fairways were squishy and little roll.We played through some rain storms and we had a great day overall. The staff was so pleasant and nice. I took a friend and he was wowed.
Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club
Played On 04/16/2023Strong test of golf
Deerfield is one tough course to score on. The elevation changes and uneven lies make the short par 4s into strong challenges . The greens are large and undulating. Make sure to keep your approaches under the hole or you will pay dearly. I've seen the fairways and tees in better shape and when the weather warms up I am expecting an improvement. The staff is excellent and the pub there is one of the best around.
Frog Hollow Golf Club
Played On 09/09/2023Tremendous value course
I had not played Frog Hollow in many years and played this past Saturday. While it was a bit squishy from a hard rain the night before, the greens remained excellent. Navigating around the large traps is key . The greens are enormous and undulating . We got a Saturday morning Hot Deal at an extremely good price and we really enjoyed the round. Holes 4 and 17 are two of the toughest par 4s you will ever encounter.
White at Gilbertsville Golf Club
Played On 09/24/2022some parts very good others need work
Had never played Gilbertsville before but decided to try it out. We played the red and then the blue 9s. Was pleased with the layout and quality of the holes. The tees, fairways and greens were good and better than expected. The sand traps are no longer sand traps and are full of weeds so you just pull your ball out with no penalty. If the course had enough funding, it could really be a top course. It is a very good value and if you don't mind a few of the lacking things it can be a pleasant round here
Reading Country Club
Played On 08/28/2022Always a good time
Reading continue to offer a great inexpensive round of golf. The setting is nice and everyone has always been friendly. I'll continue to be a regular customer
Blue/Ridge at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club
Played On 07/30/2022Great golf and outstanding value
We played the Blue and Ridge 9s. The Blue was in far better condition. With the high heat and lack of rain, all public courses are struggling with course conditions. Blue Ridge Trail is normally immaculate and right now I would call it good conditions but off it's normal. The greens were spongy in places. The views are lovely and the staff is friendly and helpful. Certainly an amazing value with rates far below the norm. Will be coming back for sure.
The Inn At Pocono Manor - East Course
Played On 07/10/2022As quirky as it gets
Had never played here before an we gave it a try on 7/10. The setting is beautiful. As a golf course, it's something unique, strange, bizarre and unexpected. First of all, the fairways and greens are like cement. You can hit a crummy shot and when the ball comes to rest you think that it was a good shot. Par 5s become driver and 9 iron to get on in 2. There are 2 par 3s on the front where you cannot even see the green from the tee and they are short holes. Knowing where to place your shot is key here. Some of the greens are super small. This is goofy golf at it's best and if you like that kind of stuff, you will enjoy this course. For me it's not the kind of course I like where luck has more to do with the results than skill.
Reading Country Club
Played On 06/18/2022course is coming back after last year
The course had some issues late last year with the conditions which was out of character. It's better now although not all the way back. It's a great course that really tests your accuracy off the tee.The par 3s are really tough especially the uphill 8th. Due to recent rain the rough is thicker and higher than ever so don't miss the short grass.
Pilgrim's Oak Golf Course
Played On 11/10/2021great shape for this time of year
Pilgrims Oak was a joy to play on a 68 degree day in Mid November. They were doing some work to the regular white tee boxes so we did have the advantage of playing closer than normal. The tees, fairways and greens were in prime shape which you do not see from a public course at this time of year.
The greens are the prime defense of the course and they can be really tough if you are on the wrong level. Even when you have a wedge in your hands, it's hard to hit it close unless you have great course knowledge.
The par 4's are mostly short but have very narrow greens and you must be super accurate or miss in the right spot. Holes 2 ,3 and 7 are examples of this.
The par 5's are some of the best holes with 9 and 18 being the tops.
The tremendous par 3 12th hole remains one of the toughest par 3's around.
If you've not played here, its in a remote farmland area but well worth the drive as its a great value.
Jeffersonville Golf Club
Played On 09/04/2021please list when course aerates the greens
Jeffersonville has excellent greens but on this day, we did not have a heads up that the greens had just been aerated. I know courses fear telling customers that as the customer may choose elsewhere to play. I would have waited to play there till the greens were further along from being aerated. Otherwise, we had a great day,
Blue/Red at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort
Played On 07/25/2021great value and well kept course
We've been coming to Shawnee to play for the last few years whenever the Group Golfer vouchers come out for there. It's a 90 min ride from Philly and well worth the trip to play. The golf is run professionally and well and there is a nice pro shop and practice putting green. There is not a range to hit balls so be ready.
We played the White/Blue combo in that order. The course was in fine shape and the greens putted smooth. The greens were a little soft probably due to rain earlier in the week and I wish people would fix ball marks better. I did my part in repairing many of them.
The rough is pretty thick at Shawnee so keep that tee shot straight or be punished. The greens are on the smaller side and have plenty of slope. The blue #7 hole is one of America's greatest par 3s in my opinion. Its a 170 yd shot over a 40 yd expanse of the Delaware River to a raised green that has a false front. You'll need to navigate the breeze and pick the right club. Anything short of the green is a goner.
You'll also notice that there are far more Par 5's here than normal. When playing the White 9, you'll have to wait till hole 6 till you find a Par 4.
A great snack shop is out on the course where many holes intersect. I highly recommend one the beers that they brew at Shawnee which you can get at the stand. The Amber Ale was a winner.
We are coming back later in the year for another set of Vouchers for some fall golf.
Jeffersonville Golf Club
Played On 07/16/2021one of the toughest courses in the area
If you haven't played Jeffersonville since the improvements a few years ago, its a must play for the excellent golfer. Look at the slope from the back tees of 136 and its all you want. Despite the 6400 yds, remember its a par 70.
The greens are undulating, fast and make the short game the real test. There is some elevation change and plenty of doglegs. The maintenance crew is doing a super job on fairways and greens.
Even the short holes can bring on a double bogey real fast due to the rough and slick greens. To score well, you have to play here a few times to know the places to miss.
The first hole is an extremely tough and long dogleg left par 4 that once was a par 5. Make a par there and you have a chance to score on the next 3 short holes if you are accurate with the wedges.
The par 4 13th and 17th holes are the other real hard holes that require a strong tee shot and long approach.
This is a real strong test of golf for the good player and I highly recommend this course for quality and value.
Odessa National Golf Club
Played On 07/04/2021tough course- lots of traps
I read all the great reviews and we came to Odessa on July 4th to try it out. The course was spongy from the big rain the day before so the fairways did not roll as normal. We switched from the blue tees to the white due to lack of roll and heat. It certainly helped as the blues were all the way back.
Here's what I will tell you... Accuracy is a must with all shots as there are tons of traps surrounding the greens and to catch errant tee shots. You don't have to hit it big from the white tees but you must lay up properly on the doglegs. You must hit high accurate approach shots as you are not going to run the ball up to these greens.
The 2nd hole is a tough par 5 with trouble everywhere. Staying left in the fairway and before the marsh is a must. If you don't hit a strong layup 2ns shot, you'll have an extremely difficult 3rd shot to a perched green with water in front..
There are quite a few short par 4's that require deft wedge shots to the green. The par 3's are pretty short but nice holes.
I'd like to play here again when its playing firmer and faster as it's a really fine course and a lot of fun,
Greystone Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2021fabulous course in all aspects
Greystone is a fabulous facility. The clubhouse sits up high above the course and you can see many holes while on the patio out back. The practice facility is superb with tons of choices. Each hole is big, with vast fairways and greens. You feel like you are at a pro level course at every hole. We played the white tees and group were all under 10 handicaps and it was plenty long. It helped that two in our group had played here before as some holes required proper layup tee shots. Despite some rain the day before, the course had drained well and the greens were smooth and medium fast. I play all over PA, NJ,DE and MD and Greystone ranks with the best in that region. The staff is nice and the kitchen makes a heck of a cheeseburger too.
Inniscrone Golf Club
Played On 06/13/2021conditions going downhill fast
We've been regular players here over the years. What once was a gem of a course is no longer being maintained to acceptable levels. Every aspect of maintenance and course conditions are atrocious right now. To go into specifics would take far too long. If it is a money issue, I hope that some funds are pumped back into the course to make it worthy again. If its just a negligence issue, that's a real shame. No one is using the practice putting green as it hasn't been mowed in ages. Maybe some other owner will come around and restore this course as it would be a real shame to see it go under. I've always enjoyed playing here but will not return until I know things have vastly improved.
Thank you for your review! We apologize that you didn't enjoy your time with us and that our conditions didn't meet your expectations. We appreciate your feedback and will use your review to help us improve moving forward. Thank you again and we hope you'll give us another try in the future!
