Desert Canyon Golf Club
Played On 03/14/2017Unsatisfactory
I have played this course a few times and had kept coming back because the course is beautiful and it's close to home.
Yesterday I had 3 guests with me visiting from WI. I was excited to introduce them to this course as I have enjoyed playing here in the past. Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed by a couple things:
- we played this round on a hot deals discount via Golf Now, $68.00, great rate. Typical rates this time of year are $86.00+. We also needed one set of clubs, ladies. The clubs they charged us $30 to rent were in horrible shape. When spending near $100 a round for golf, you should be able to expect a decent set of clubs to use, especially if they are charging a rental fee.
- they offer a great food ordering service at the 8th hole, which you can pick up at the turn to avoid taking too much time in between the front and back. We ordered 4 sandwiches and when we made the turn to pick up food and replenish beverages, the food hadn't been started. Waitstaff stated that no one saw the ticket so it would be a wait. They offered to bring it out to us but there wasn't follow up to that after it was originally offered. We waited about 15-20 mins.
- once we received our food we were on our way. At that time, one of the golf staff told our group we were a hole and a half behind, so he had to let the group behind us go ahead. I found this very hard to believe as we waited for the group in front of us at nearly every hole on the front 9. We explained this and also told him about the food mishap. When we got to 10, we now had to wait for both the group that was originally in front of us and now the group he allowed to play through....only benefit here is it allowed us to eat! Our tee time was at 11:45 and our round was finished right around 4:00. A 4-hour round of golf, 18 holes is pretty typical, if not longer. Our pace of play was slowed on the back due to waiting again at every hole. We weren't appreciative of the conversation the ranger had with us, the action to allow a team play through when everyone was waiting and the lack of acknowledgement or apology for the food being missed.
