Worth the drive

Coming from Tampa, where there is probably as many courses as 7/11's and wide range of green fees, I always second guessed driving up to Brooksville. But the idea of the rolling hills always tempted me and this time it got me. The friendliness of the staff is always a great starting point. Got to talk extensively to Charlie the GM and Tom Damico who checked me in and took the time to give me great directions about the track. They are genuinely caring people and are working hard to make a good thing better. The course is beautiful, the greens are somewhere around 9 and fairly consistent. And with those rolling fairways, place well a good drive on those downhills and you will be rewarded. Closing the 18th hole with a magnificent view right at Pre-Dusk was the best reward to a good round, better yet with my longest drive ever. Most of the greens had their undulation that came into play depending where you landed. The only big improvements that it really needs, and Charlie confirmed them being done within the next two weeks, are the teeboxes and the sand traps . If they can keep up the good work and get that abandoned club house back up, I'm sure we will all have a tough time getting a tee time here in the future. While that happens, I'm coming back every oportunity I get. I still have to try the food which was highly recommended. They did close the grill kinda early for a Saturday. I'm sure that will change once they get their volume back up.

Hollybrook, Holy what?

I played this track about a month ago. Until then, I had never heard about it. So I went around telling my friends about it so that we could go play it and their answer was the same as mine when I first played it: Holy what? "H-o-l-l-y-b-r-o-o-k in Pembroke Pines" I said. Seems they only open to the public during certain months. The layout was fairly simple and forgiving for the most part. Very relaxing and good conditions. There are two or three holes that you really need to think carefully before loading up on the tee box; the 16th hole is a good example. But overall, wide nice fairways and good to very good greens. In much better condition than other courses in the area that are charging the same or even more. Only a couple of small patches that you can tell they are working on. Didn't affect play drastically, if at all. Only issue was that we never saw a vending cart. But there was one the first time I played so maybe they called in sick or something. Good thing it was overcast, otherwise It would have been a huge inconvenience.
Going back for sure.

PC #1 asset, the staff. Oh yeah, very nice layout too.

Hanging moss and large trees in some holes make you feel you are in a plantation somewhere in South Carolina. Nice shades along the way as the summer sun is making it's grand entrance Florida style. HOT. But while under the protection of the foliage, the breeze cools you down plenty.
The Back 9 will definitely test you starting right at the 10th hole. If you are short, trees get in the way. Too long will get you off the fairway and very possibly in a line of trees. Put your driver away on this hole as it's a 90° dog leg left and you need to place your tee shot just right to have a good angle.
Then comes 13 where you need to lay up to avoid the water that will eat up your ball right before the green.
As if that wasn't enough, 14 is almost a U turn, even tighter than 10 and narrower. After surviving these holes, I approached the 18 green with a 187 yard shot to the middle of the green with what seem like a 165+ yard shot required to clear water. Ball in the air heading straight to the flag, peanut gallery cheering, getting fist pumps ready, and then clunk!!!! the sharp sound of the ball hitting the top of the wood contention wall, up in the air and into the mud below. "Some strange magnetic force pulled it down last minute" I heard someone say. I walked to the muck monster to see that there were not less than 15 balls at simple eyesight, including mine. Not a terrible round but knowing the course a little bit better now, I can't wait to go back and possible make different club choices in some of the holes.
Then decided to make an event of the visit and enjoy the Irish restaurant/bar. Great food, great beer and outstanding service. Wouldn't mind going back just to visit the restaurant. Walked out to the parking lot thinking and then telling my partner, we're making this our place. It really seems everyone there is happy to be there. Including the guests.
Now, on the flip side, tee boxes are in real bad shape. That doesn't bother me too much as for the most part, the ball is on a tee anyway. But the greens do need plenty of TLC and bring them back before they get any worse. They are playable but not great.

Boca Greens got greens

Boca Greens is a nice course. I would play again. Fairly standard layout, nothing too crazy. Greens were recently punched but still played decently. Some are VERY challenging with good amount of undulation. A little more TLC to the fairways could bring it up to a much better condition. Some Tee boxes were not in the best condition (Hitting of a tee, so it didn't bother me too much). More cosmetics issue than fairways (I landed on old divots and grass scabs more than a couple times). Big deal, took relief. The starter was wonderful and he managed a very booked course fairly well. Vending cart person was very nice.

Great layout. Love the people.

I've played Scotland Yards a few times now and as many wonderful golf courses as you can find in the area, it is one of my favorites because of the layout and the staff friendliness. Food is great too. Rolling hills, blind shots and some tricky dog legs that make you thing before you hit. Greens were slow. Slower than they've been here for me.

The good, the bad and the ugly.

The good: It is a nice course. I've played it before and enjoyed it. The Bad: The greens this time were horrendous. Very very very slow and patchy. Found myself on various instances putting on straight sod. No grass. The Ugly: Went to the bar at the turn of the back nine to get a beer. I ended up telling the people behind the bar 3 times what I wanted. They were having issues among themselves and obviously that created even more confusion. If I noticed, it was over the top. They served three people that got there after me and after I had ordered. In the end, and after repeating my order 3 times, they still didn't get it right. It took more than 15 minutes to get 2 beers. This killed my momentum and hurt my game. I would only go back if assured that these issues were corrected. My previous experience at the bar was spectacular. This one killed it.

Inverrary Good for the Money

First time playing the West course. It is in fair to good condition. Some areas could use attention but nothing to affect the game drastically. Greens are very good. My only comment would be on the sand traps. It seemed that the front nine were softer and the back nine were very hard. What was I doing in the sand anyway? you may ask. They do come into play a lot in this course. I would play it again.

Tough course

Oh Davie Golf & CC, where have you been hiding?
I like a challenge and golf is a mental game. This track will test your game. The greens are VERY ondulated, lighting fast and small. Pin placement is mostly located up or down a ridge. I will go back.

Challenging for first time. Great condition

I really enjoyed playing this course. It takes some thinking and club management. The course is in good condition and is worth the green fees. I am actually surprised I hadn't played here before. Only problem was with a ranger. We mentioned that the threesome ahead of us had gotten slow after the 11th hole and they did not have anyone in front of them for at least a hole and a half (we were on 15 and they were moving at a great pace up until then). His answer was: "Well, they are a threesome and you are a twosome so you're going to have to wait. Besides, you're not going to be able to hit 200 yards against the wind." Other than that, from ProShop to starter, it was all great people.

Club management

Legend Oaks will make you think. Sitting in a beautiful setting, almost romantic, but I came to play golf and while it was a nice distraction, I found myself thinking hard on a few of the shots: trees in the middle of the flight path, so do I go over, under layup, will it reach the water, do I fade around it? A lot of gators. Nicest people and to sit outside the club house to just enjoy the view added to the experience. Back to golf; greens were punched and sodded a little over a week ago, so it was a little bit off. One more week and everything will be perfect. Might be going back in a couple weeks when travel brings me back to Charleston. Oh, and the drive to the preserve, breathtaking.

M&M Marsh on Marsh

Recommended by Dad when I came to visit as one of his favorite courses in the area years ago when he played. I read a few discouraging recent reviews but that didn't stop me from trying and I'm glad it didn't. Yes, maybe there should be a way of telling golfers maintenance issues beforehand, not just on this course but in all courses. However, it was great to see how much is being invested in this gem to bring it back to 100%. Still, it is very playable as both fairways and greens are in good condition. The bunkers are being worked on and it seems they are going to be done very soon. It is a very challenging course, great layout. I played with a member and that was great as it takes knowing the course to minimize failure. I also learned the locals term to refer to those holes that you have to drive over large marshes and again on your approach. M&M for Marsh on Marsh. I will be playing again very soon and I am looking forward to October or so when all the improvements are done. So, if you don't want a little inconvenience (boo-hoo) then wait a couple of months before you play this monster course.

Very nice layout

I really really liked the layout of the course. You do meet your challenges in this course. Dog legs with sand right at the curve at your landing area, among other things. Double threat !!! The island hole 18th really tests your skills.
I want to go back. I also liked that there was constantly a ranger driving around the course. We were a twosome stuck behind three foursomes and only one or twice had to wait very minimal time to tee off. All that being said, the course needs a little TLC to make it great. It is not terrible, but a lot of burnt spots on the fairways. Players in that course do not fix divots off or on the green. I probably fixed at least three and up to 6 divots on every shot. The greens are not too hard to play as they are fairly flat. The ball rolls just fine, but they are soft.
Conclusion: I will go back.

Sand EVERYWHERE

A little water here and there. But you are guaranteed to land in a bunker or ten, so you do a bit of club management to avoid it as much as you can. Would love to go back soon. The course is in great shape considering time of the year.

Drive from Miami and play it often

The title says it all, it is worth the 40-45 minute drive. We are usually one the first few to tee off so we have never had a problem with pace of play, but it does seem to move well. Course is in great condition. But the best asset is the staff. The entire staff.

Dog Leg Here, Dog Leg There... Dog Leg Everywhere

Yup, lots of Dog Legs. Ball placement and club management are obviously important. Greens were slow, but in decent shape.
The Orlando area has SO much to offer golf wise, so it's a tough challenge for this course. Still, would probably play again and try my luck with Pace of Play and green speed. Also, I need my revenge against the 10th hole. After and awesome drive, I messed every single shot thereafter. The Starter (Chamo) was AWESOME.

Nicest folks

what a pleasant surprise. Starting with an issue that turned a community into servers. Don't know exactly what happened but the restaurant lost their server abruptly. The members that were present got off their seats and went out of their way to make sure the guests were taken care off. Starter is a gem. Wish I had his name. Gave us very good and detailed directions and recommendations. Some holes take good course and club management. Greens and fairways were in great shape. Worth the drive. Will definitely play again.

First Impressions

Walking in to the club house and restaurant was enough to make me feel REALLY good about driving to Dade City for a round of golf. The members made us feel really welcome and appreciated. There was an issue with one of the servers and they all pitched in to help. And the staff was really good too. The starter really went out of his way to make sure you know where you were going and details about the course. Oh, yeah, the golf course. Loved it. Very interesting layout in some of the holes and the greens were in very good shape. Will be going back soon.

Bernadette, Nice course. Would like to come back when...

I assuming that over-seeding had just happened shortly before my game day and the greens had not been groomed. This was somewhat confirmed by a member I met up with in the last two holes. Overall, an interesting layout. I had to work and could not get out until 3PM so I played rushed, making unnecessary mistakes. I would like to come back when the greens are in better shape and I can play calmly and enjoy it more. Shop attendant was a bit rough around the edges. Maybe I caught him on a bad day. I would love to come back and see how THAT goes.
