has potential

Planned to have lunch before our round and the a/c was not working inside...appeared they were shorthanded but staff was friendly and helpful. Range was small but fine, decent chipping area and putting green that was close to first tee box. Layout was not bad, very tight fairways and plenty of trouble awaits errant tee shots, doesn't allow for recovery on most holes with lots of OB just off fairways. Still plenty of birdie opportunities and loved the mix of short/moderate length holes. Only one bad hole...9th hole is terrible design, still not sure where to hit tee ball, short hitters have no chance. Extremely disappointed in the shape of the greens. Back nine greens looked terrible put actually rolled ok but on the slow side. Front nine greens are very slow, I mean hit it hard from 10' slow and have some very bad spots. The holes cut for cups in the greens are small and hairy due to the grain, need to be much better. $35 each I paid was too much for the shape of the course (after 1pm in July) but would be a deal with just a little more TLC. Pace of play was excellent, my sons and I played in 3 hours (we play ready golf and are single digit handicappers) Will give it another chance next summer.

Hidden Gem

This is a wonderful layout and fun course to play. The staff is friendly and helpful. Driving range is excellent. Lots of water but very little OB and always a bail out on one side. Good shots are rewarded and recovery from errant shots is possible. The one negative is the green speeds are slower than they look and extremely soft (mid July). This does allow from aggressiveness into greens and chips must be placed close to hole - but roll true, smooth and consistent. Fairways are excellent, staff keeps traps raked and course is manicured very nicely. Good golfers will love the layout, high handicappers may find it very challenging with all the water. Many birdie holes, some good risk/reward. One of my favorites to play while in the Beaufort area!
