South at Boulders Golf Club & Resort
Played On 02/21/2017Lush, lavish, and long in the wallet
I am a blue collar golfer with a 10 handicap. The Boulders North course is beautiful, scenic, and exquisitely maintained. The greens were sanded, but done so professionally that speed, read and break were
not affected. Fine true sand in the traps. The shorter par fours were laid out to provide challenges and opportunities. Unlike my Monday round at Troon North Pinnacle, Boulders North did not lock your driver in the trunk of your car. The landing areas were narrow, but not club restrictive. I used every club in my bag on my round. The price was a bit much. I would really play this course regularly for $75 less. My rationale for this always goes back to Torrey Pines in SD that costs $229. Torrey Pines is luscious, picturesque, and nationally renown. I will pay $225 for THAT type of mystique. Boulders North has that type of beauty and ambiance, but not that type mystique.

Although my round endured intermittent rain, the round was memorable. Despite the rain, the fairways rolled some extra yardage. The greens were pristine and complex. The views were picturesque. Hint for a first timer on this course: club down if your distance threatens a hazard, even in the rain the fairways rolled an extra club. Bring some extra balls and a ball retriever and measure yourself on the +\- after the round. The one complaint I had was the pace of play. This Saturday there was a father/son outing. The adults in the group ahead of us were drunk, foul, and disrespectful towards the course (doing doughnuts in the cart in the middle of the fairway). When we did play through, they made that 5-10 minute crossover very uncomfortable with lewd comments and profanity.

Great value. Very challenging with risk/reward opportunities for longer players. Greens were in good shape, rough was treacherous, elevation changes invited aggressive play to shorten holes. Ravines and carries etched distinct memories in this golfer. Club house was less than scintillating, but staff was warm, helpful, and friendly.
Unremarkable
Better suited for beginners and seniors. Facilities average, driving range limited and chewed up. I did play this 18 twice so it was not busy. Short par 4's, reachable in two par 5's, and unimaginative greens.

Elegant, but not pretentious. Moderately challenging. Inviting elevation changes. Staff warm and friendly. Greens were a little shaggy when I played. Resisences come into play now and then. More water on this course than you care to acknowledge.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Saguaro/Tortolita
Played On 06/18/2014Most challenging course in Tucson
I have played all three 9 hole courses. Similar thread runs through each : target golf. If you are not accurate with your irons, if you spray it off the tee, if you do not know how to manage trouble.........it can be a long day. The greens can be diabolical : very contoured and fast. Do not START your golf trip with Dove Mountain, FINISH your trip with this challenge.
Facilities beautiful, clean, rustic.
Glad you had a good time! We hope to see you again soon!
