Galleon/Brigantine at Shipyard Golf Club
Played On 05/31/2017Great layout, interesting challenge.
Well maintained and thoughtfully laid out.
Fairways were ample, but tight when needed. Strategic thinking is required as the greens have real approach areas that reward good tee shot placements.
Found the greens a bit slow on the day I played. Not quite croquet, but almost.
To be fair, a light sandy top dressing had been applied. Zoyah grass is great in the fairways....ball sits up nice.
Asheville Municipal Golf Course
Played On 03/21/2017Donald Ross, an undeniable fair test!
Visiting Asheville N.C. I was looking for a good test of golf. Since I've never played this area my google search turned up this rare "world class designed course" by Donald Ross. He presents a challenge by laying out a series of 18 characters in his stage-play. While not overly difficult, hitting correct shots is all it ever takes to make the game simple. Good conditions, friendly staff, and reasonable rates make me want to play it a couple more times before leaving the area. (Standing Ovation, and applause)
The Cascade at Gold Mountain Golf Course
Played On 07/13/2016Hidden Gem, an worth the trip.
Really enjoyed this classic layout. If you hit the ball into the fairway, and you're going to enjoy the benefits of going for the green. If you don't, it's not to difficult to get out of trouble. Greens are of good size, quickness and slope. Overall an enjoyable place to play. No homes are nearby, it's just you, your friends and the deer. Very walkable. Restaurant and pro-shop are top notch. Nice stands of mature evergreen trees.
I'd rate this a 8-9 out of ten for public courses.
We hope you enjoyed your trip to Asheville and we appreciate you giving The Asheville Golf Course a try. Thanks for your feedback and we hope you can make it back soon.
