Slow play, poor course condition

Took 5 hrs to finish the round. And the course looked so dried out in most areas but soggy in some other areas

Deserves a 5 star only if the speed of play is < 4hrs & friendlier starter

I am an out of towner and booked a round at this course since it is so close to my hotel. Nov during week day, I would imagine its not peak season yet, I can get my round in for around 4 hrs.

We have been waiting on every single hole since hole 1. Teed off 12:30 and finished at 5:30. I called in around hole 10 and asked if the ranger can take a look since there was a full hole in front of 2 groups ahead. Jose, a very friendly guy from the pro shot said he would page the ranger. 2 holes later, still no ranger. I called again and Jose said I should come in after my round and see "what the head pro can do for me" (meaning if they can give me some sort of discounts or compensation). I explained, I didn't want anything from them other than a decent pace.

Then in 10 mins, here came the ranger. He basically said "you are ahead. you are playing behind a 4 some, so what do you expect? The 4 some is actually 9 minutes early. We play 4.5 hr round". He literally made me feel like I am just a complainer. So I kept my mouth shut. I would expect a solution from a ranger and not justification on why those guys are playing so slow on a weekday, with NO ONE in front of them. So, Mr Ranger...my round lasted 5 hrs. Not 4.5 hrs that you said. One possible solution is move us to a different hole, OR check to see if those 4somes will let us pass, OR move us to a different course since they are a 36 hole course. I don't know what option we would have picked, BUT just saying "there is nothing wrong with this" is everything wrong with this. This guy has ruined this round of golf and the perception of this golf course. Don't they give ranger a customer service 101????

"Dennis" the Golf Professional extremely unprofessional

Got a 1:58 Tee time and arrived 15 minutes early. He would not let me check in because he said he would only give out carts 10 minutes before actual tee-time. Then I met someone on the putting green who has 2:18 tee-time and got their carts....hmmm...why the double standard. Very unhappy customer because of Dennis' unprofessional handling of customers!

Flat as pancake. Back 9 plays like a different course

There are a few things I like about this course: I was playing friday afternoon and pace of play was excellent (I finished 18 hole for 3:45 hrs). Also, the big trees are beautiful! I can tell this course is an OLD course and has been around for a long time. This reminds me of golfing in the mountains of Napa Valley CA.
Also don't judge by the course by the first 2 holes. back 9 plays like a completely different course

What I don't like:
1) This course is flat as pancake. FLAT. No undulation. No nothing.
2) Electric cables everywhere above the hole. If you hit your shot high enough, you may hit the wires
3) condition of the course was pretty horrible. Bald spots everywhere
4) very narrow fairway, though the fairways are lined with mature trees and look beautiful

Ridiculous Pace of Play - Unfriendly Staff

I have played Stonewall Orchard a couple of times and was fairly satisfied with the experience. However, the round that I played last Saturday was just horrid. First, the pace of play was so slow that you can compare this to a cheap county course. (I finished 12 holes after 3.5 hours and I finally had to walk off the course)

During the play, the beer cart girl stopped by a couple of times, and that lady had no etiquette at all - she would zoom by while I was putting.

After I walked off the course, i checked in with the front desk and asked if they have any rain check policy due to extreme circumstances like that day (3.5 hr for 12 holes) - what really ticked me off was the front desk person in charge said they did not have any rain check policy and for golf now customers, I will have to contact golf now about the raincheck. No apologies were offered. I just left the desk. Honestly, what I would have expected the front desk person to do was to at least apologize for what happened and call in the ranger to figure out why the pace of play was so slow. (if he has done that, I would have been OK and not leave any negative feedback here) . Passing the buck back to GolfNow is just an excuse and they should know better about this. As much as I like the course itself, it will be hard for me to want to go back there given the unfriendly staff...just a main turnoff

After my review, the pro shop Brian called me and left me an email explaining what happened and acknowledging the issue that day. That's all I needed to hear, that they actually care about their customers and want to make players happy. Thanks Brian!

This is a hidden gem!!

I came to this course as a visitor to Hawaii. Played at Turtle Bay Palmer course yesterday and was so disappointed in the quality of golf in Hawaii. Golf at Makaha however changed my opinion again! This course is extremely scenic - even though it was a 5 hr round (and I was playing single) - it was a holiday, otherwise the starter said usually a 3 hour round - it was still extremely enjoyable. Dramatic ocean and mountain view. 300 yard plays like 360 yards - very challenging. I LOVE THIS COURSE!
